Rustic NICARAGUAN FOOD in Masatepe!! Rooster Soup + Market Tour in Nicaragua!!

🇳🇮VISIT NICARAGUA: / visitanicaragua
🇳🇮CARLOS: / carlostapiapineda
🌎 MY TRAVEL/FOOD BLOG: davidsbeenhere...
After arriving back in Masatepe on my way to the national capital, Managua, I set out to explore a local market and eat a local favorite. Come with me as I try some rustic Nicaraguan food and go on a market tour in Masatepe, Nicaragua!
My fried and guide Carlos from Visit Nicaragua and I could only do this adventure on a Sunday, as it’s the only day they make sopa de gallina, or rooster soup!
👕 DAVID’S BEEN HERE MERCH: teespring.com/...
We’d be eating at El Lomo y La Costilla, a restaurant that’s right across the street from El Rancho del Mondongo, which I ate at a few days earlier. They also grill chicken, pork ribs, and more! Inside, they sell sausages, maduros, nacatamales, Gallo pinto, and more!
The restaurant was rustic and spacious. I got to see them make the soup, which contains chiyote, corn, cassaba, chipotle, and dumplings. I watched her knead the corn dough and add an egg, achiote, and salt. Then, she added mint, spring onions, garlic, and shredded chicken!
Then, she forms the dough into balls and drops them right into the soup. Then, it cooks for five more minutes, and then it’s ready. Then, I went up to the front and got some ribs, the tongue, and plantains.
The lady even fed me some. It was so tasty and the tongue was super tender! I loved it! Meanwhile, our soup was ready. It looked incredible!
The broth was rich and flavorful. There were also lots of vegetables. The dumplings made it resemble matzo ball soup! It was a unique corn and chicken dumpling, and the soup was massive! I loved eating it with tortillas on the side!
The chicken dumplings were so hearty. We added some extra chilies to give it more of a kick. I loved the rooster meat, which was so tender and full of flavor. It felt really healthy! There was also a big piece of squash in the soup, as well as some corn on the cob. It was now one of my favorite soups in Nicaragua!
Next, I jumped on the ribs. It wasn’t actually ribs, but the meat behind the ribs. Carlos added some onion and chilies. It was smoky, tender, and juicy, and the onions and spice from the peppers boosted it to the next level! It also wasn’t too salty, so the natural flavor came out.
I liked making little sandwiches with the tostones and the meat! Then, finally, we drank the rest of the broth from our bowls. Then, we left and headed for an artisanal market!
Masatepe is the cultural capital of Nicaragua and is famous for their furniture makers, who I’d bought some stuff from a few days earlier. We arrived at Centro Cultural Antiguo Mercado de Masaya, which dates back to 1888. It looked liken old fortress!
Inside, I could see people selling clay sculptures of chubby women, masks, clothes, wooden bowls, jewelry boxes, paintings, and more. I loved the jewelry boxes! It was handmade. I also saw some amazing masks I liked!
Other vendors sold leather belts and bags, hammocks, magnets, and more. I got a hammock for about $12 USD. Elsewhere I saw more dresses, bags, and more sold by an awesome woman who spoke a little English!
Then, we stopped at a local bar for a Toña beer with some local gentlemen! It was really refreshing and only cost 37 cordobas or about $1 USD!
Finally, we he drove to the top of Masaya Volcano, which is nearby. The entry fee is 150 Cordoba/around $5 USD during the day and 350 Cordoba/$10 USD at night.
There’s a huge crater and a lookout point where you can look down into it! It’s so hot! This is the only volcano in the world you can drive up to! Then, we got got fresh coconuts from a vendor and drank the refreshing water inside.
Finally, we walked up the steps to the huge cross at the very top! We had 360-degree views of the volcano, countryside, and Masaya!

I'm here again. Thanks for visiting my town one more time. As well, I'm glad you followed my request for giving a try to this soup. Now, just in case you arrive to Diriamba, there are different beaches; however, the most famous one is named 'La Boquita'. The beach is pretty nice and if you take a walk you may see some rocks where you can take amazing pictures. One last thing, if you think of having lunch there I recommend you a restaurant called 'Sandy's' it's a two floors kiosk and the fish soup is another world there. It should be called '7 mares' at any seafood restaurant you visit here.

It's easy to confuse a plantain with a banana they look alike. However, they taste different. Bananas can be eaten raw or you can make a dessert, milkshake, etc. On the other hand, plantain can be boil or fried. For example, we nicaraguans fried plantaine to make tostones. By the way, plantain cannot be eaten raw.

Najib Hourany. The difference between plantain n banana is that plantain is bigger n is for cooking, n banana is a fruit you don't cook it. The plantain u can fry it or boil it n eat it with food l do it all the time. The banana just eat it.
