I love listening to these tales with my adult autistic son. The narrator has been the only thing to calm him recently; otherwise he becomes quite dangerous to handle - he's quite strong these days. Thank you!

This is fascinating. I have been trying to find the casualty rate of the German and Russian armies, but actual numbers are hard to find. One source said that for the German army it was upwards of 80%. How did this guy survive for so long?

Someone has to come out of it alive. Even those trapped in Stalingrad made it out. Only a small percentage, and after years of being stuck in the Soviet gulag system, but some made it back. A lot of it comes down to blind luck. In a collection of interviews from after the war I read about a soldier that was injured after being hit by a truck. He was put on what would be one of the last transports out of Stalingrad. He had numerous other health issues and wouldn't have survived capture even if it hadn't hit him. If the accident occured a few hours later he would have been stuck there, but with additional injuries and definitely died. I believe he ended the war as a British POW. As I said, sometimes it's just luck.

Both countries apparently failed to learn from WWI and still thought it was ok to kill off millions of their people in war. Those who argue the Americans and British should somehow be thankful to the Soviets for sacrificing so many lives fighting the Axis powers on the Eastern Front are just wrong. Britain didn’t have the manpower to do what Russia did. American voters would never have should for another foreign war if heavy casualties were involved. So the Allies on the Western Front relied instead on industrial production to defeat the Axis.

This video is about a Tiger Panzer Commander, right? So, why is the background image that of a Panzer IV? Did the producers of this video just say, "Give me a picture of a Panzer on what looks like the Eastern Front" and then not looked at the finished product? Very disappointing. This is so typical of KZread videos. Especially when there is footage that is not of actual events, but just representative. The mismatch with what is being said in the video is quite disturbing.

@@daleburrell6273 Absolutely. I get the impression that the people preparing the material probably have some knowledge of the topic, but that the people "producing" the material do not. They just hear it is about a German tank, or whatever, and pick a picture of some German tank. Come on man, if you could find a picture of a Panzer IV, you could just as easily find a picture of a Tiger. That was my point.
