boney M had some HUGE Hits in the 70's/80's my mum used to love them and so i ended up growing up listening to them and loving them.
My mother's the same way whenever she sees/hears/whatevers something Swedish. She misses it.
Boney M were one of the first Western pop groups to perform in Russia (USSR back then) in 1978, but the communist gov banned 'Rasputin' when it was released... the lyrics were based around the rumors (mostly unfounded) about the so-called Russian 'holy man'... A US doom metal band Type O Negative actually put Rasputin on the cover of their 2007 album 'Dead again' (and the Tsar's 4 children on the back cover) and wrote the track 'The profit of doom' about Rasputin. Boney M was formed by a W. German producer named Frank Farian who recruited 4 Caribbean performers in 1974 for his pop group... 3 women and 1 man... 2 women did most of the vocals (Liz Mitchell and Marcia Barrett) while Maizie Williams was in the background... the male, Bobby Farrell did not sing (he lip-synced 'deep' vocals that Frank Farian recorded of himself) but was known for his dancing skills. The group debuted in 1976 and became disco music superstars in Europe by 1978 and in Asia by 1980 (American success was limited). Boney M scored huge hits in the 1970's like - 'Ma Baker'... "Rivers of Babylon'... 'No woman no cry' (Bob Marley cover)... 'Belfast'..."Hooray! Hooray! It's a holi-holiday!"... 'Daddy cool'...🔥🔥 The 80's began w/ disco music falling out of flavor... Boney M's last 3 albums failed commercially by 1985 and the group disbanded. They each performed separately as 'Boney M'...over years. Bobby Farrell passed away in 2010.

Bobby Farrell - the male dancer in Boney M- was born in Aruba in 1949. He died in Saint Petersburg, Russia December 10, 2010 of heart failure. He was 61. Coincidentally, Grigori Rasputin was assassinated on December 10, 1016 in Saint Petersburg, Russia. The day and place were paradoxically the same for both of them.
@fordhouse8b

Nothing paradoxical about it. Paradoxical means contradictory, and the there is nothing contradictory about them sharing a common date and place of their respective deaths. Maybe fate, maybe just random coincidence, but certainly not a paradox.
I go back and watch this video now and then.....Because for 40 years, always wanted to see a Real Russian react to this song....Great reaction!💗
They sold more than 150 million records, were successful worldwide, especially in Europe, and wore spectacular stage outfits: Boney M.! A disco formation from WESTGERMANY in the 70s during the cold war. They were even honored by Queen Elizabeth II in England herself. Even today people like to dance to this oldie at parties. 💃💃🕺🕺🎶🎶Do you wanna dance? Boney M was one of the few bands whose music was not banned in the USSR. Their numbers were played in Soviet discos and exuded a freedom associated with the West. This fact helped the band achieve lifelong success in Russia. When lead singer Bobby Farrell died in 2010, the rest of the band toured the country and continued to perform Boney M hits. Farrell was replaced by Peter Jarrette.The German founder and producer of the band Frank Farian died on January 23, 2024 in Miami.

@@spockbella The German producer Frank Farian sang the male bass voice in the style of Barry White and the female voice in falsetto. He released the song under the pseudonym Boney M. Actually, Boney-M weren't allowed to perform "Rasputin" in Moscow.
It is for sure a russian music-sound influence in this song. I like the music of Boney M,one very interesting detail is that it was not the singer on the stage here that actually did the singing but the groups founder and producer,the german producer Frank Farian with his really unique sounding voice, a white guy,not black which many people would probably believe it was,but it was Frank Farian that did sing and this guy,Bobby something,forgot his last name,did only fake that he was singing. Just like it was with Milli Vanilli too although Frank Farian did not sing instead of Milli Vanilli. I like this song nevertheless,its catchy,it makes you want to move and its extra interesting to see a russian person do a reaction on this song.
Like your channel. I'm old and after seeing the kids dancing to this I want to get up and boogie, almost.

Frank Farian (born Franz Reuther; 18 July 1941)[1] is a German record producer, musician, singer and songwriter, who founded the 1970s disco-pop group Boney M., the Latin pop band No Mercy and the pop band Milli Vanilli. He frequently created vocal groups in which the publicised members merely lip-sync to songs sung by session members. He owns the record label MCI and several subsidiaries. Over the course of his career, Farian has sold over 850 million records and earned 800 gold and platinum certifications.
