Russian POST office - How to send a package in Russia

Russian post office tour. How to send letters and packages in Russia. If you're interested in living in Russia, join me on my little tours to the "non-tourist" and real Russia. Also, with these video lessons, you can learn some useful Russian vocabulary.

I am a mail carrier in the US and am studying Russian because of one of my customers who came from Russia about 10 years ago. It is fascinating to hear her speak to her mother on the phone. Maybe when her mother comes to visit again, I will be able to converse with her and make her visit more pleasant. I am enjoying your videos!

Oh, that’s funny story. Russian Post company is monopoly inherited from USSR. The company is not so good in delivery business (people rarely use them for sending expensive or important stuff), but there are stable amount of visitors in Russian Post offices. Therefore the company try’s to make money on non profile businesses like selling lottery tickets, calendars, toys. Anything except good post service. They even have their own bank(not a joke). :D

I’m going to Russia tomorrow. I’m going to send a parcel to my Russian friend from Moscow to Rostov. Do I have to bring clear tape with me? I heard I have to let them check the contents inside the box, so I haven’t sealed my box yet.

This is such a great topic. I live in Ukraine. We still have postal system like the old Soviets used. What I usually have trouble with is the system of waiting in line. People are much more “me first” (leftover from Communist ideology created by severe lack; if people didn’t push for their needs, they got nothing) than “you were first.” But, the pochta workers are always very helpful. I’ve learned the forms, and that was the toughest part. I’m still figuring out the windows, though. Which one am I supposed to wait at to send a package to the U.S.?
