Search it up, that guy was actually pretty dictatorial too and had to put down his own parliament using the military! He couldn’t even keel the economy afloat so he could fund his war with Chechnya, leaning on his oligarchs to do so. The same oligarchs Putin would destroy and replace with genuine friends. He transformed it to a strong industrial state with the second most powerful military in the world. But to say that “the 90s in Russia ended in complete chaos” is fundamentally wrong. (I’m telling you as a native of Russia) After all, when Yeltsin appointed Putin to the post of president, and he himself left the post, Russia was a very proactive and promising country. And in addition to this, the price of energy resources rose, which meant that Russia would receive several trillion dollars in the near future, which could be spent on the development of the state. But instead, they were completely plundered.

Russia truly has a large catalogue of great, triumphant classical music to choose as their anthem. They used Tchaikovsky for their Olympic team, and this wonderful melody was written by Glinka, arguably the first pioneer of Russian music!

From the era of "what might have been" in Russia... A hard time, but a time of possibilities, until Yeltsin appointed that ex-Chekist as Prime Minister then resigned. Then Putin resurrected that Soviet-era melody and got new lyrics for it. Maybe it'll be ditched after he finally shuffles off into history.

Yes, people in Russia started to live better and economy started to grow but it is all because of oil and gas prices in the beginning of 00's and Putin has the biggest problem of his "reign" - he is an autocrat who destroyed all of the biggest Russian and foreign independent mass media(it got worse after the invasion of Ukraine) and people can get into a jail just because they call the war "the war" and even before he anulled his presidential terms. Yeltsin, in my opinion, was better in terms of democracy and freedom of word, even the crisis that was in Russia in 90's was just a period that would end soon and county was slowly developing but it was developing! What can we see in Russia during Putin period(mostly in his previous 10 years)? Before 24th of February of 2022 it was stagnation, now it is recession

@@oleglonfaroff1563 I don’t like Putin either but without Yeltsin there would be no Putin either, and he made his friends oligarchs, rushed privatization, destroyed democracy in 1993 writing an authoritarian constitution, rigged elections, I know the economy wasn’t because of Putin that it got better, likely would have happened without him. Also due to the rushed privatization it destroyed the economy without him Russia would be democratic, much richer, probably more populated due to them losing 5 million because of the economic crisis, and maybe positive population growth as the economy would be better.

The constitution of 1993 was the most democratic Russia ever had but it has one big problem - it doesn't work and it stopped to work mostly in Putin's period. And about economy it was already destroyed by communists during Gorbachev's period and even before him there were another communists who were destroying economy by making more guns than civil goods. And about my last comment. I didn't mean that one of them is better or worse. I meant that neither of them is good, both have problems. And there is a chance that even with Putin Russia could be more democratic and with better economy if he would have left in 2008

This is the real Russian anthem. If Putin goes away, Russia should reuse this anthem. When I hear the Soviet-like current anthem, I think about Putin's invasion of Ukraine, war, blood, repression and only bad things about Russian history. When I hear this one, I think about beautiful views from Moscow, Saint Petersburg, the endless forests, generous nature; also Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich and the beautiful Russian culture. So in short, this one feels truly Russian and it represents the country much better.

They both are outstanding anthems....I like the one you went back to because that is how I know Russia. Olympics etc... it's that anthem. The US anthem is a drinking song in Britain... It is our 3rd anthem the first two were good but we need a new one after all this world strife is over. The govt goes back to the states as it was intended...our federal interactions will be few... we are always our State First.... Самые лучшие годы? Не думаю. Учитывая даже тот факт, что была действительно свобода, демократия и меньше коррупции, чем сейчас - рассиянцы все равно, почему-то не волнуются, что "просрали такое счастье". А если так - значит время действительно было не очень то и хорошее. Как по мне, лучшее время в истории России - это вся её история до 1914 года, за исключением пару моментов, и смуты.
