    The problem is that the west will not punish these countries aiding Russia. I can understand that they like to pretend that these are neutral countries, but they should limit any businesses coming in to se asia. There needs to be a cost for supporting Russia. American diplomacy needs some type of engagement with countries such as the uae malaysia thailand and others.

Arms weaponry producing companies and fuel producing companies plus large contractors have benefited from money worth billions of dollars during Afghanistan and Iraq that did not add much value to anyone . More than 20% of Russia's gas/oil refining and processing infrastructure has been hit by drone strike and this goes up by 5% about every 60 days because the Russians are incapable of stopping Ukraine. More than 300 billion in frozen Russian assets is now being used to finance the war against Russia. Keep an eye on Russia this winter. Last winter they lost tens of thousands to the cold. Putin made the biggest blunder of his carreer as a dictator. In over 2 years, his armies haven't reached any measurable success one could have predicted given the formidable superiority of Russia over Ukraine. Russia suffers heavy losses, both in terms of human lifes and military equipment, thus exposing Putin's weaknesses and obliterating the myth of his powerful armies. His Black Sea's fleat was even decapitated and decimated - an unprecedented and resounding humiliation for the Kremlin. Russia has immense resources, is self-reliant for power and food production, but has been severely underperforming, having a GDP barely comparable to modest powers such has Spain. Whoever thinks Russia can afford this is utterly mistaken... and quite ridiculous, let's face it.

  • @bobwallace9753

    @bobwallace9753

    @@MurrayMaffra You are badly misinformed on everything you post. EV sales are not declining, but increasing. There's a small slowdown in EV sales in the US due to a lack of more affordable EVs but EV sales are growing outside the US. EVs made up 18% of global new car sales in 2023 and are projected to hit 25% in 2024. Tesla has demonstrated that copper will not be an issue. By moving to 48 volts for their non-high voltage systems the amount of copper needed per vehicle falls by 75%. That's a requirement of only 25% of what is used in ICEVs. And for their high voltage system, Tesla is using aluminum, not copper. The vast amount of cobalt consumed is used for removing sulfur from "sour" oil in the refinery process. That's lost cobalt. Not recoverable. Only small amounts of cobalt is used in EV batteries as most batteries are becoming LFP cells which contain no cobalt. All the materials in EV batteries, including what cobalt there is can be recovered and reused. It is already being done. There's absolutely no shortage of lithium. It's just that demand got ahead of supply and now production is catching up. In fact, caught up as the price of lithium has really dropped.

    A couple of points: 1: The American government doesn't run or control oil production and can't suddenly change it. And each American oil company will always produce as much as it can and makes sense given prices and costs. And already the United States is producing record amounts of oil, more than any country ever has before. And Canada, Brazil and Guyana have been significantly increasing their oil production. As far as I know Saudi Arabia is the only country that has large amounts of unused capacity and could quickly and easily increase its oil production as it normally tries to restrict its exports to keep prices high. 2: Hind sight is 20/20 but if NATO had in 1993 said that it would accept Ukraine as a member and Russia then invaded Ukraine in response then western sanctions against Russia would have been much more effective in 1993 because at that time G7 countries really did dominate the world economy as I believe that at that time G7 countries and Spain had the 8 largest economies in the world. Certainly at that time China's economy was in the same range as that of Canada at most as was the economy of India. And at that time Russia's economy was in a very bad place and it almost seemed that the Russian government was on the verge of bankruptcy. On the other hand in 1993 a lot of people thought that it was "the end of history" and that capitalism had won and that Russia would gradually become like any modern peaceful democracy and integrate with the rest of Europe and stop trying to control other countries. It would have seemed hyper aggressive to try to take Ukraine into NATO just when Russia seemed to becoming a friendly nation. And as well I doubt that in 1993 Ukraine would have had much capability to defend against a Russian invasion then. If western countries had wanted Ukraine in NATO they would have needed to quickly send their own troops into Ukraine to defend it though Russia would have called that NATO troops occupying Ukraine.

    Everyone talks about sanctions like they need to be airtight to be effective. Just because one idiot in Rostov can pull a microchip out of a Chinese refrigerator and use it in a drone does NOT mean that sanctions don't work. For everything that they need, three things become true, and can become more true over time: - The things they need become more expensive - The things they need take longer for them to get - They can't get AS MANY of the things that they need So, yeah, the are able to pay 3x retail to get one Boeing windshield through three other countries and install it in one plane, two months after it broke. Then the trolls hit KZread and shout, "SEE?!?" But two years later, 64% of russian aircraft are not in active service. Almost 100% are overdue for routine service. Air travel is down by 14% from just last year. The russian government spent $4.5B propping up JUST Aeroflot, JUST in 2023. See?

    I'm not sure how one would ramp up US production for the purpose of creating over supply and crash the price, just to hurt Russia. That is, much of the extraction companies in the US are for-profit entities that will do what they can to attain the best return they can. So if they see a glut coming, they're just going to hold the investment for the next well until they can reasonably forecast that they'll get their money back. So the motivator for the producers here is money, so not sure what the discussion here is about where somehow we would get these producers to overproduce and make less money.
