Not an expert but maybe the reason the high altitude bombs weren't dropping properly is because you wanted them to drop to sharply down. It's essentially a glide bomb so it can't make itself just bleed the forward momentum to make it drop straight down

Speed, altitude, angle and kayra-23(laser/TV-System) tracking ability affect all.. too fast or too slow you mostlikely miss..

Yeah at that altitude he should have dropped them from far away so that they would get the occasion to have the good angle. That fast that high would have just been impossible for the bombs to hit. TBH tho, I am hyped, because this is going to be a beast in Ground battles, tho really not useful due to the size of maps

Phly, I think that the bombs aren’t limited by altitude, but you were so fast that the bombs would be going too fast to drop on a target at such a steep angle below you. At that speed, you need to be a long way out.

@@timothywhite8130 and that gun ended up being a pilot killer. It literally shook the entire aircraft apart. Even after they realized the aircraft couldn't handle the stress caused by the gun, they still made their pilots use them. Russian engineering at it's finest.

@@markdsm-5157 over time it became well integrated. Even during initial days, no pilots died due to crashes. Maybe Russian pilots won't whine and use just skillful flying to make safe strafes.

I really appreciate that you don't intentionally try to ruin someone's fun. Respect!

From tests of my own in the Dev, the GBUs in the Mig-27 are a lot of fun to use. Learned that you can drop them while flying past mach which gives a great momentum boost when dropping them from down low. the Maximum TV Lock range is 10km. was able to yeet a GBU at 4km altitude at a target 10-8km from me while flying flying past mach and landed the bomb dead center on the target. so I think the sweet spot altitude for an accurate drop is around 4-5km up while flying past mach towards the BF. Definitely cannot wait till US get's it's own GBUs added to the game.

Yesterday at the Warhawk Airshow in Idaho, I got to meet and get the signature of Captain 'Bud' Anderson. He's a WW2 triple ace who flew the P51 Mustang. He talked mostly about his training and I think a little bit of combat to everyone at the airshow. He's also the last American triple ace in the US.

the entire front end of the aircraft looks veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery similar to a certain other Russian ground attack aircraft that i would love to see added to the game soon :3

@The Conqueror Those planes in dcs are 20 years ahead in technology because they are versions 20 years younger than the equivalent Soviet aircraft in dcs. 2000s radars and weapons against 1980s radars and weapons is not a fair comparison.

The Mig23/27 was actually inspired by the American F111 that came out slightly earlier and was encountered over Vietnam but the Russians wanted more of a lighter fighter bomber.

Aircraft being damaged by cannon firing is a myth btw. It is miscitation about very early test airframes, problems with which were solved before serial.

So much like the Mig29 engines, they could do it, but it destroyed the aircraft. GAU-8>GSh-6-30 "The gun was noted for its high (often uncomfortable) vibration and extreme noise. The airframe vibration led to fatigue cracks in fuel tanks, numerous radio and avionics failures, the necessity of using runways with floodlights for night flights (as the landing lights would often be destroyed), tearing or jamming of the forward landing gear doors (leading to at least three crash landings), cracking of the reflector gunsight, an accidental jettisoning of the cockpit canopy and at least one case of the instrument panel falling off in flight."

Man this update is crazy. Love the way you explain the planes and weapons.

I hope at some point, they bring in scout tanks that have laser designators on them, that can assist jets by giving them a better laser to lock laser-guided missiles on, and quickly be able to disengage without manually maintaining their lock. Would be nice to have better systems like that to encourage more coordination and teamwork.

Day 7: Phly, I've got a series idea for ya, called "Chaos... is a Ladder." Simply start at the reserve tier of tanks, and play one match. Next match, you can upgrade to the highest BR tank that you killed in the previous match. Rinse n' repeat. See how many matches it takes to get to top-BR.

Fun fact: Unlike the GAU Avenger used by the A10, the GSh-6-30 was gas operated. Meaning that it used the gas from the rounds fired to rotate the barrels, which made it lighter than the Avenger since it didnt need an external motor to do the same. It also gave the GSh MUCH better fire rate than the american counterpart.

This is what I’ve been waiting for

The Mig-27 does shoot faster then the GAU-8 but with two major setbacks: the two 23mm cannons on the MiG-27 have a combined 8 - 12 thousand rounds per minute meaning it goes through ammo incredibly fast. Another is that unlike the GAU-8, the Gsh-6-30 will literally cause powerful vibrations so much to the point it can shatter night-time landing lights, avionics, and even fuel tanks, all while the pilot undergoes incredibly uncomfortable vibrations every time the gun is fired. Also also, the Gsh-3-60 weights twice as much as the GAU-8, now imagine the weight of two of them next to each-other.

I can't belive that im actually going to be able to research this thing as soon as it comes out. That has never happend to me before

I saw this bad boy when my father was stationed in Jodhpur back in 2012. I vividly remember a Group Captain telling me stories about Mig27 in the officer's mess.

The reason why you can see it from above through TV is that in the nose you have an enlarged hexagonal forward oblique window covering the collimated optics for the Prichal laser rangefinder and target designator, and for the LLTV missile guidance system. This system is similar to Su-25. So I guess Su-25 and A-10 are around the corner. I take Mig-27 as a test subject so it will bring feedback to Gaijin and Gaijin can then tweak and change what needs to be changed for Su-25 and A-10 to be added and have it somehow balanced.

I dunno about shaking a plane apart, but my colleague who works with me at our Local RAF Heritage Museum told me, a few years ago he spoke with a chap that tested the Anti Tank Cannons they first equipped to a Hawker Hurricane in the North Africa and he said that he fired 3 rounds off and it was such a terrifying experience he immediately flew back to the airfield, landed refused to speak to anyone until he'd had a cigarette. Then an hour later after he had calmed down explained that he lost so much altitude and the plane shook so violently that he thought he was going to both crash and have a heart attack at the same time. 😆

Phly, you needed to try them on a moving target. You probably need to keep the target in the crosshairs. Might be fun to see the impact on the targeting screen whether the target is moving or stationary. Also, the plural of aircraft is aircraft.

The A-10's gun isnt really special for its fire rate... its more the amount of ammo, the length of the barrels, and the stability of the weapons platform. The shaking thing killed the A-16 as well because the 30mm gun pod shook the F-16 frame apart

The TV guided missiles and bombs are fire and forget because they use their own camera to lock targets, just like the Maverick, that's why the game kicks you out of the TV view after launch. Laser guided missiles however require you to keep the target in the cone o vision of the plane, since they rely on the laser designator on the plane's nose for guidance. Both have pros, with TV guidance you can launch multiple weapons at different targets in one pass, while with laser you can guide them after launch if you want to track a moving target.

A-10 Warthog: *LOOK WHAT THEY HAVE TO DO TO MIMIC A FRACTION OF OUR POWER!*

Phly, thoughts on weapon systems that use laser designation from ground units to guide air units munitions more easily. For example, a Bradley has scouted a MBT but too risky to engage, laser designates MBT for air units and remains hidden.
