One of the reasons there hasn't been a nuclear war is that any first strike will not be able to find the submarines. Having 3 types of nukes; silo launched, bomber launched & submarine launched,, makes up a nuclear triad and makes a first strike to wipe out an opponent without retaliation impossible. You should look into supercavitating torpedoes like the Shkval. It's pretty old but it can do more than 200 mph, almost 400 km/h, underwater by using supercavitation.

There are 18 Ohio SSBN/SSGN in service right now, n if we follow the rule of threes, that means theres always 6 on active duty. 9 if they stretch it to rule of twos. Theres officially documented 6 Borei class. That means only 2 can be on active duty at any one time. 3 if they apply rule of twos.

They don't have to handle the impact of the launch . Missles are pushed out under pressure surrounded by nitrogen incasing the missle in a bubble. The missles never touch the water. Once they're far enough away from the sub theyer engines ignite. Usually there's enough water between the missle and sub that the sub won't experience too much blow back

Yes. The only issue the submarine has post-launch is ballast management. Suddenly losing all that mass and have all that empty volume quickly replaced by water is gonna mess with bouyancy.

Yes, even two of them could destroy most of the whole US east coast. both, US and Russia, has ca. 500 of those weapons. And there are nearly no defence systems which are able to intercept the warheads.

@@jackreacher. The sole purpose of those missiles are to deliver nuclear warheads. They cannot test the weapons, so they test the missiles instead. Most nuclear armed nations are a part of an international agreement, known as the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty, that bans the testing of nuclear weapons. Between 1945 and 1996, over 2000 nuclear weapons tests were done. Why were there so many tests? The main reasons are as follows: 1.) Nuclear weapons research and development. 2.) The arms race between the US and USSR. 3.) Nuclear strike deterrence. Since the signing of the CTBT, nuclear superpowers (Russia, US, China) have been using other methods to maintain deterrence. One method is the regular testing of ICBMs, which is what’s shown in the video. The entire point of these tests are to create fear, which is what maintains deterrence.
