If NATO strikes targets inside Russia, they would strike strategic assets in Poland and Romania, Germany, France and UK. Russian submarines are ready in the Atlantic. What you see here is just a tiny fraction of Russia's military capabilities.

Nuclear submarines are second strike. Meaning that nukes would have already been on their way thus making the nukes sent out by submarines more predictable and easier to defend. Nuclear doctrine is about who hits the red button first.
