Russell Westbrook and Patrick Beverley's beef includes knee injuries, Jay-Z quotes, and baby cradles
Спорт
Russell Westbrook vs. Patrick Beverley is a pretty straightforward beef. Westbrook arrived in the NBA as a touted lottery pick. Beverley was a stashed second-rounder who bounced around Europe before getting his shot. Early in Beverley's NBA career, they collided ... literally. Beverley lunged at Westbrook's legs, and the resulting knee injury ended Westbrook's ironman streak, ended the Thunder's title hopes, and started several years of medium-rare beef on and off the court.

Not the biggest Russ fan, but when you cost a guy his season + 3 knee surgeries, you have all that hate coming to you and then some. If Russ wasn't a supernatural athlete those 3 surgeries could have been the end of his career, all because of a guy being reckless on the court. Not cool.

What exactly is the movement he was supposed to do while falling (diving) face first? Would you rather he didn't turn his body so that he would get a knee to the face? There's a clear attempt to stop once he realised Russ had beat him to the ball, but by then it was too late and his momentum carried him forward. I don't quite understand today's NBA animosity. People complain about too many fouls and not enough physicality. They praise strong offensive attacks with shoulders and elbows on offense or ankle breakers with push-offs. But as soon as Beverly does what he has always done - play full on effort physical defense - people cry malicious intent. The foul is a flagrant, the dive is intentional. No doubt. However, I am unable to claim Beverly is 'dirty'.

Not a Westbrook fan but Beverley is absolutely in the wrong on this one. His attempt to make a steal when the thunder was calling time out already shows his recklessness and lack of intelligence. I know he prides himself of playing fearlessly but there’s a clear difference between toughness and recklessness, and Beverley is the latter one. But he doesn’t care, because he came to the league from a tough road and he decides to wear this bullying mentality like the whole world owes him an apology, that he is the only player who understands toughness.

Anthony Trash No, my opinion means no more than any other basketball fan. You don’t have to belittle someone’s comment to establish yours. If you honestly think that play be Beverly is fair basketball without an ounce of recklessness, just imagine your opponent lowers his body and charges at you while you’re decelerating and calling a time out. See how you’d like such heads up play. True, Beverly understood that it was a good chance to steal the ball because Westbrook was calling a time out, and it would be the last thing that RW had in mind that someone would try to steal the ball from him at that situation. However, the only way Beverly could reach the ball is to lower his whole body and accelerate towards RW, and the potential consequence is PB colliding with RW at the sideline. PB knew exactly that and he still decide to go for the ball, and this is why he was being reckless rather than intelligent. Being willing to play physical doesn’t make you a fearless defender. It only makes you a dangerous goon putting everyone at risk. Great defenders such as Payton, Pippen, and Kawhi never charges at their opponents.
