I'd rather have the quality scripts a la Robert Holmes & Douglas Adams with wobbly tinfoil sets again. The stories & music was so good you looked past the videotape & rubber monsters. Ahh, Tom Baker, the greatest incarnation of the Doctor, ever!

The younger audience he claims to be such a hit with, is likely only an audience because they’ve yet to experience any of the better versions of doctor who… The moment they do, is the moment they would become a fan of the older series and join the rest of the crowd with realizing how poorly written the newer ones have been…

The show ran into the same problem as the Chibnall era: the lead actor was miscast. Jodie Whittaker was outshone by Susan Lynch in her second episode, The Ghost Monument, and by almost every other actress, including Jo Martin. Ncuti was outshone by the guy who played Ricky September in Dot and Bubble, and by Jonathan Groff in Rogue, either of whom would've made a better choice to play the Doctor. When your lead actor is outshone by the supporting cast, it says everything about how wrong he was for the part. The closest it felt like Doctor Who to me was when Ricky was holding Lindy's hand and the two were running from the monsters - a situation I could see with Ten and Rose, for example.

This is literally a trend currently in entertainment industries, to tell their audience to watch/play something else. The writer of The Boys did the same. And it's ALWAYS because of their politics. I'm not sure how the article points at 'older generation' being a problem and they want a younger audience.....Being a family show (or it was), surely the older generation that loved who would sit down with the younger generation to watch it if it was even half decent, to gain them the younger audience. Its plain to see these companies are buying the popular franchises to push an agenda THEY want in society and are seeking to indoctrinate the young by making it basically all they will see in TV and film. Why else would you buy an existing IP rather than create a new one and plaster it in rainbow colours until its utterly defaced.

If you compare it to the Acolyte numbers might indicate success.

And yet all those who tuned out because of this doctor will not show their kids and if they hear about it they'll know that this doctor was on of the nails in the coffin and killed a franchise not revived it.

Maybe this is a terrible idea but I reckon RTD would be a natural fit for Disney Star Wars. Apparently the Rey Star Wars film may not be happening. Maybe Kathleen Kennedy can get RTD to save the project? Ncuti Gatwa guest stars as Darth Gayus. 🤭

Focusing on a "younger audience" and bypassing long time adult fans is exactly what gr00mers do. It doesnt produce a healthy fan base, but it does brain wash a few kids. Long lasting fan bases grow & thrive, by being transferred from parents to kids as they enjoy something together. The current stated strategy by Nurse What is subversive & gross -- but what else would you expect from Russell Davies at this point.

An interesting point that never gets mentioned in the season ratings involves the double bill episodes 1&2. It was just before Eurovision, which I think is part of the reason for the song and dance at end of that debacle. The viewing figures for Eurovision went up to somewhere in the 8 million bracket. It's also a bit funny how the current BBC is defending a season doing worse than when they tried to bury it in the late 80s and quietly cancel it

The only success they can crow about is that the show didn’t get cancelled after the first season !! But then again they cheated by starting to film before the ratings came in.

HAHAHA well guess what the consumers and Dr. Who fans "hate" dr. woke so i guess its mutual.

It is very clear to me that they loath the name "Doctor Who" and it's entire legacy, but they also know, it's all they have. The show is run by some very unhappy people.

RTD must go if modern Who is to have any future

We have great viewership in the under 16 to 34 range. Which is not great for two reasons: 1. When they are over 34 they will drop off. Davies is delusional if he think he can keep the numbers as people get older. 2. Tons in the demographic, terrible ratings overall. Good luck making money.

Episode 08 +7 (TV +4) numbers are 3.69 - all a bit pathetic. And worse, the viewer feedback for that episode are terrible, even amongst those who have said like the rest of this season. As for season 2, I believe this has already been filmed, so there is no chance of it course correcting.

Not only that but they already had a shows like that in the Sarah Jane Adventures. Why not do something like that again for the younger crowd? Oh right because like class it isnt about being good, it is about trying to force society to allow kids to be sexualized and exposed to stuff that would get most people charged with grooming a minor.

The recent series was really weak. I watched the specials and the first 1.5 episodes of the series, then gave up. But they was really down to the naff writing and rubbish stories. I think this is an unfair characterisation of Martha's return though... Out of previous characters Rose is in another dimension, Donna lives with David Tennant or whatever, Amy and Rory are dead, Clara is alive but dead, Bill is dead, and Jodie's crew only recently left.... And none of the classic companions are right to lead a spinoff, So Martha is the only one who can return. That's not Disney wokery (although the whole male presenting timelord thing with the trans daughter was fucking dreadful . But I think you've got this one wrong.

I guess his husband dying tragically has reeeeeeally got to him... and got to him bad. So that's why he is writing this crap in his scripts. I know in his first era, there was a bunch of stuff in there about LGBT undertones but it didn’t get in the way of story being told. Thats why it worked.
