(6 Jun 2018) RUSSELL CROWE ATTENDS 'GLADIATOR' SCREENING AT ROME COLOSSEUM, WHERE IT'S SHOWN WITH A LIVE ORCHESTRA
Russell Crowe returned to the scene of his "Gladiator" triumph as Ridley Scott's Oscar-winning film was screened with a live orchestra at Rome's Colosseum arena on Wednesday (6 JUNE 2018).
The Hollywood blockbuster first released 18 years ago was projected onto a 25 meter (82 foot) screen inside Italy's capital city's most famous landmark, as the Italian Cinema Orchestra played Hans Zimmer's film score live and in sync with the film.
Crowe, who starred as General Maximus Decimus Meridius, said the event would be bringing back a lot of memories.
"I'm really looking forward to it," the 54-year-old actor said. "I haven't actually seen the film since 2000 so it's going to be one of those funny situations where probably the vast majority of people in there tonight know the film way better than I do. So it's going to be interesting. It's going to bring back a lot of memories and I would guess it's going to be a very emotional experience because you know we put a lot into it when we made it and that's why I don't watch my films because otherwise like Pavlov's dog I go through the motions of it so I'm looking forward to it."
Crowe joined some 350 guests at the charity event, which featured an orchestra of more than 200 musicians and choir, which performed along with Australian singer Lisa Gerrard, who won the Golden Globe for the title song ''Now We Are Free."
"Ridley was joking with me a couple of months ago, he said do you realize that somewhere in the world every night of the week at prime time 'Gladiator' is still playing on TV. I'm really looking forward to it, there are so many little details I've forgotten about, relationships stuff and everything, and I'm going to rediscover why it's touched people's hearts I suppose." said Crowe on the red carpet before the event.
This time, Crowe wasn't there to avenge the murder of his family and emperor, but to support charities including the "End Polio Now" campaign, the Polio eradication program promoted by Rotary International, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, World Health Organization, UNICEF and US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The 30-year campaign has already raised $1.7 billion (USD) to vaccinate children across the globe, and the aim now is to raise an additional $450 million in three years.
Gladiator Live was also raising money for a new lift for disabled people at the Colosseum, which will cost 200,000 euros and be delivered by June 2019.
Guests also include former AS Roma football team captain Francesco Totti, who gave Crowe a Roma shirt, saying "He's no doubt a big Roma fan."
Crowe jokingly replied, "Lazio" (Rome's rival football club) and Totti said "No, Lazio no, I'll take it back again then! It's a pleasure though for AS Roma to give you this shirt, I hope you like it, it's a large, size XXL."
The cine-concert will be repeated twice at Rome's ancient chariot-racing Circus Maximus stadium on June 8 and 9.

I was there. Not on purpose. But our was an incredible site. He and I also had the same tour guide in the Colosseum. She says he was very nice.
As a Roman I can't belive that the Colosseo is still used like a theater after 2000 years.

This video makes me think actor portraying a role is unable to grasp the depth of the film always like person who is seeing it from the outside. A finished product a master piece. For me the film is sacred I don’t think Ridley and Russel feel the same way by the impression of what Russel says he had with Ridley but I wonder if they haven’t felt it as deeply as I do how could they made it? Maybe the feeling wear of after 20 years.
Sorry lads, that's not Russell Crowe. I saw him in that movie. That man you see, is the kind gentleman who came down me chimney at Christmas and left presents for me wee shavers.

He would’ve been about 35 when it was filmed in 99. Yeah, it’s kind of crazy. He’d look a lot younger without the beard and the weight.

18 years can really age you once you get close to 40. I guess he is just going for the natural look lol. He could look younger if he wanted.
