Russ Rose on using subs in practice

Спорт

You may have a solid group of starters, but what do you do when one of them is having an off day, gets injured, or needs a rest? In cases like these, it’s important to have a subbing strategy. Here are some points to consider.
How will you use your subs? It’s important to ponder this well before game day. Mix in your subs with your starters at practice so they get used to playing together.
Who will you sub in? Skill is important, but intangibles are also key. Your team may respond better to a particular player’s energy or another trait they bring onto the court.
When will you sub? Secondary players must understand that they are in development. Use practices to prepare them for game day, and let them know that you’ll sub them in when they’re ready to compete at the level of your starters.
