Fun Fact: YYZ is the airport code for Pearson International Airport, in Toronto, Ontario Canada - Rush's hometown. The rhythm played on the cymbals to start the song is the morse code for the letters Y-Y-Z. Saw Rush play at Maple Leaf Gardens (former/original home to the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs) for the last/homecoming show of the Counterparts Tour. Absolutely epic when the announcer said, ... "Toronto, will you please welcome HOME, RUSH!!!!".

Rush fans are another level! In the 80’s, the crowds were mostly aspiring musicians and kinda music nerds. They got airplay, but we’re not as universally accepted like some other pop rock acts. Had the pleasure of seeing them 9 times through the 80’s and 90’s, and the crowds got more diverse as time passed. To the point that on the last tour, you had fans from 3 generations from one family in the audience!! And yes, fans singing an instrumental is quite unusual at any other show, but normal for them.😜

🤗 Stadium crowds also do an 'Invisible Air Wave' clap during The Spirit of Radio! 😚 Ged is so cute leading us along in his "Awww shucks. We're glad you like us" way. Sometimes when they would pan to his face on a monitor, he looks like he still can't believe him & his best friends are headlining. Same look he had opening for Kiss decades ago! 🥰 So Ged. 😏 Dirk, on the other hand, is "the naughty one". 😏 I miss 'Dirk'..... 😂🐰

And you would have lost your hearing for 3 days like i did back in the 80's at Madison Square Garden. I was 18-19 years old and it was my first concert at the Square. Oh my god it was off the chain. I rocked out hard that night with my friends. I am now 61, I still go to concert's and I would rock out to Rush today just like I did back then. I miss Neil. When he passed away, I cried for 3 days. So many memories. Neil was and had a brilliant mind. you should read or listen to some of his books they are awesome. He was a brilliant and passionate writer and storyteller. I sometimes go back and listen to his e-book stories just to hear his voice. The good thing is these guys will always be with us all we have to do is press play. Keep this good music alive fellas and thanks for the reactions.🥰

Interesting story from a Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame interview that I saw. Chuck D (before Public Enemy was famous) had a friend who did security at the The Great Western Forum in Inglewood back in the early 80's and used to get him into concerts for free. One night, his friend got him into see Rush, and he watched from the back. Chuck said in the interview that he wasn't necessarily into Rush's music, but he was blown away by how mesmerized the crowd was and how the crowd knew every beat to every song. He said that he was really influenced by Rush's showmanship and musicianship that he saw that night and it stuck with him as he navigated throughout his also successful career.

Before the Rio crowd, no one ever sang live in concert during YYZ. What you saw was the first time a crowd sang during YYZ. You used to sit back and watch the musical prowess of these three guys take place. However on the future tours, when YYZ was played, all the crowds started singing. However, they never got to the fervor nor intensity of the Brazilian crowd. This was at the end of the Vapor Trails tour. The band was burnt out with a couple of more shows left to perform in South America. The band had never performed in S. America before and had many unforeseen logistical issues happen which added to the weariness. The band admitted in later interviews that when the crowd started singing they almost stopped due to the momentarily loss of focus but they kept playing on and the crowd was fueling them while re-energizing them at the same time. Go watch the documentary "The Boys In Brazil" that is included on the "Rush in Rio" DVD.

Ya, it’s Rio BUT there was another element to why they went completely nuts with this song. Remember that this song was big a generation before most of these kids! The timing for this was shortly after Guitar Hero II featured RUSH YYZ as essentially the pinnacle of your guitar hero abilities! Once you were capable of conquering YYZ, YOU WERE A GUITAR HERO GOD!!! So, what you’re seeing here, on top of a sincere appreciation of the song, was an in person opportunity to see the GODS OF GUITAR HERO IN PERSON!! Hence kids freeking out over a 20 year old song! Gotta love it!!

The one thing that is often overlooked. For the members of RUSH, it was always about the fans. There were no egos, they came out every night and gave 110%. They worked long and hard to build a huge following. For the majority of their careers they were overlooked. Panned by critics but adored by those who got it. They are only now finally getting the recognition they deserved. They are the nicest three guys you'll every meet, and they stayed best friends all through the years. Sadly Neil has left us, but he left a lasting mark on rock and roll forever. I recommend your next listen should be Neil Peart Live in Frankfurt (Drum solo).

Actually, he did not catch the drumstick, he missed it but you never saw him grab the other one. They have this exact version just with a drum cam. That's the one you want to watch
