Is there a pattern in the arpeggios of the "quiet part."?

I remembering back in high school trying to figure this middle bit out on a reel-to-reel tape deck slowed down to half-speed - still couldn't get it. I guess my 15 year old ears weren't up to the task! Thank you so much for putting this up - you nailed it man! One of my favorite Rush tunes and again highlights the brilliance of Alex's guitar work. He rarely gets the critical acclaim that is lavished on Neil and Geddy, but when you think about the body of work and the complexity of these songs, he deserves much more credit. Again, well done sir!

Add me to the list of those who greatly appreciate this and all your lessons. You once again are filling a huge void on KZread. And doing it with attention to detail and a clear passion for Lifeson's work and style. There are so many unusual riffs and creative uses of chords and phrases in this classic song. Vintage Lifeson! I read somewhere many years ago that a lot of his classic era studio-album solos were not pre-composed but were instead assembled in the studio using pieces of multiple improvised takes. Amazing that Alex (and producer Terry Brown?) could ultimately create cohesive solos that way, but that process may also be a key component of the resulting unusual-but-very-cool phrasing such as in this song.

I think that's a suitable way to work, making a composite of the best of moments for solos. I didnt realize they did that, would never have even guessed as you are correct, the solos are cohesive and work well.

Thanks! I always wanted to know how Lifeson plays that repeating A7 clean arpeggio part in the middle. It's pretty easy to play in the open position, but I know that's not where Lifeson plays it.
