Music means so much to me. In fact, watching Jamel took my already devoted love and respect for Rush to the next, next level. I wanted to say that I've had three absolutely torturous, heartbreaking moments in music: Jimi Hendrix dying (before I was born), Layne Staley finally succumbing to his demons, and Neil Peart just passing. It's so sad you almost don't want to admit it happened. The music world's GREATEST drummer of all time exists on this plane no longer. 🥺

When you first hear them, you don't think there would only be 3 members. The singer plays bass and keyboards too. Sometimes playing live, while he is playing keyboard parts, he plays synth bass with foot pedals. Neal Peart, one of the best rock drummers, also writes the lyrics. They ended the band last year, after being together for 50 years. When they first started out, playing in bars, they would cover Zeppelin songs, because Geddy Lee's voice was so high.

You forgot pedals. He also plays bass pedals when he's on the keys, so that the bass doesn't just drop out of the mix. So he's actually doing four things sometimes; singing, keys, bass, and bass pedals, and often three of those at once.

Rush was all over the rock stations in Detroit Michigan in the late 70's, early 80's. There was a locker room attendant at the Patton Park pool that would blast RUSH, The B52's, Blondie, The Romantics, The J Giels Band, Kool & the Gang, Parliament, George Clinton & the P Funk All Stars, Bob Seger, Van Halen, Ted Nugent and others. Yet new rock, new wave, fusion & funk were our favorites. That was a good time to be 12 years old.

In the same way that your journey with Led Zeppelin shines a light on certain aspects of rock, Rush shines another light on different aspects of it. All 3 of them are tremendous musicians, and combined they make a sound that really can't be duplicated by anyone. I'm not one of those Rush superfans that will tell you they're the greatest band in history (that would be my brother), but they are certainly *one of* the greatest bands in history. That it took until 2013 for the Rock and Roll HoF to induct them was practically criminal.

This is all of 3 men. Guitarist Alex Lifeson has said that this was possibly his hardest guitar solo as most of the time he solos over some kind of rhythm and can root the solo to it, but here Geddy is also soloing and Neil keeps throwing in his filld. Essentially an "everybody solo" situation. Rage Against the Machine is reuniting for Coachella 2020. I thought this should have been on Renegades, their album of cover songs.

Your reaction at 5:14 made me smile. The breakdown section of the song is legendary in rock music, in terms of technique, precision and creativity. You dont have to be a rock head to respect the genius of that section. Props.

Dude, my wife and I are life~long rush fans and this is the third time we’ve watched you react to them. You don’t know us but we love you, lol. It’s a most excellent feeling to watch peoples faces when they see or hear in these cases, for the first time, Rush’s best. I don’t know if you have seen their drummer’s (RIP) Neil Peart) drum solo from the R40 dvd videoed in Frankfort Germany, but if you haven’t you might just Shiite your pants. Thanks brother, keep up the good work!!

I call 4:38-5:38 "The best minute in rock." You really have to listen to it three times because it's basically a solo by all three members. Listen to the guitar, go back and listen to the bass, go back and listen to the drums. It's completely insane.

Everyone raves about Neil's skills behind the drums and it is deserved. He was a grandmaster. But truth be told...Geddy is a supreme bass player as well as vocalist. And Alex is one of the best (all be it underrated) guitarists in all of rock and roll. All three guys are truly amazing musicians!!

I will never forget hearing that on the radio for the first time! Prior to the "Permanent Waves" album, from which this song comes, Rush wasn't on the radio very much (they had two singles prior, but not much else). But when this album came out, they started getting lots of airplay, between this and "Spirit of the Radio". I was getting ready to go to school (High school) and it came the radio and I freaked out! Then...when I heard that guitar solo section I just FELL OUT!! The world totally changed for me that day! My favorite band was finally on the radio! :)

Neil Peart is absolutely justified in being considered the greatest rock drummer in history. But his talent as a lyricist was just as profound.

Neil Peart became their second drummer on theirsecond album "Fly by night". They were also looking for a lyricist and Neil being well read also tookn over and wrote everything afterwards. And, the rest as they say is history.

I'm not sure I've ever heard Rush be better than this Permanent Waves album. Yes there may be two or three other Rush albums that are more popular but in my opinion certainly not better. I like the way Geddy said when Neil joined the band right after the release of the first album they were very happy to get such a great drummer and were even more excited that they now had someone to write the lyrics. Amazing all the things they did and such greatness for the next 41 years once Peart joined in '74. I do wish requests for Rush songs would be more than mostly from that first 7 years of albums '74-'81. Many people have said they stopped listening to Rush after moving pictures that they just didn't like Rush after that. What a shame because Rush continued to make amazing albums. No there were not radio hits as much as before but the albums are still great after '81

Jamel, man I really enjoy your reactions to Rush. We all have genre's we grew up listened to based on where we were raised and who raised us. I love you stepping out of your "comfort" zone to check out this baddd asss trio. Peart's lyrics are amazing. Two of my favorites are in this song. "If you chose not to decide you still have made a choice"...... and on a "fortune hunt that's far too fleet". Man, ain't that truth. His lyrics are always well crafted. He was a voracious reader. Well done Sir. I'm subscribed and watch you regularly. Keep it up!

Ohh yeah, when Geddy got down on the base at the instrumental part, and Lief, charged in with the guitar, Neil's laying down on drums,.yes, 3 humans, THREE HUMANS!, saw them twice and 2nd time I still couldn't believe what I was seeing and hearing, it was like a fluke of nature that was as deliberate as anything. Incredible, not many groups translate to live performances, Rush are the masters of it. If you haven't try "Analog Kid ", Freakin masterpiece, enjoy, Peace ✌
