The lyrics for this song were written by Geddy Lee and I believe it was a song about him and his wife. Like Alex and his wife Charlene, Geddy and his wife Nancy met and started dating in high school. Both marriages have lasted over 50 years but being married to someone who is away from home a great deal as Geddy was can cause issues. He talked about that alot in his book. Beautiful song and yes I wish Alex's solo was longer too!

Probably the most underrated and overlooked song from Rush’s golden era. I’ve always loved it. The always most said remarks : the outro is too short. The overlooked “4th member” Hugh Syme” Did a lot of background keyboard etc for the recorded tracks. “Tears” he really shines.

That's one of the biggest strengths musically... give enough to activate the imagination, and YOU can finish that solo in your head ; ) I'm convinced that was intended

This song really shows their versatility. It’s a slower more straight ahead approach for them and it allows Alex’s playing to shine through, although I agree I wish the solo was a little longer.

SUCH A CRIME that Rush never released an extended version of this recording, allowing that Lifeson solo to play out! They probably shortened it because, in 1980, you only had the vinyl record to deliver the songs -- basically 45 minutes of time, or so, -- so there was much more of a limitation on time available to them. Actually, I am going to look up if there is an official explanation of why they decided to keep that song so short, because Alex was just starting to unleash the beast with that solo! :)

I bet they were actually running out of tape from the reel to reel. Thats the only explanation I can think of. It wasn't like them or Terry Brown to 'chop' anything like that. But back then, you couldn't just press record and automate the session times and program the length of a fade out. When the tape runs out, you are DONE. You can edit or re-record to lengthen the section, but because that lead track was SOOO nasty-faced, they chose to keep it as is and fade before that dreaded 'CLACK!!' after the end of the reel passes the tape heads and the record button pops off...

And best instrumentals include " la villa strangiato" , "YYZ" , and "Leave that thing alone". Enjoy

Bass harmonics and a stunning guitar tone throughout, it has the fullness of a 12 string but I think it must be the Gibson hollow body ES-175,. There was an opportunity in the chorus for a beautiful vocal harmony part, I wish Geddy had laid down a two part harmony there. This was considered a studio track anyway, Geddy's electric piano parts are beautiful and it makes me wish he had explored piano more often with Rush. As for the solo at outro, OMFG! They MUST have run out of tape or something, I can't believe Rush would have done a quick fade during what was one of the most iconic, filthy, nasty, face-ripping lead guitar moments in Alex's catalogue!! It was like dude was hangin his junk out there and suddenly got the cane...😅😅😅

The band didn't have disagreements, discussions yes, but they were always tight. That's why they lasted for over 40 years.
