The washing machines are there because Geddy stopped playing through his amp stack and goes in direct through the main sound board. With the amps gone it looked odd so they filled in the space with washing machines. - sometimes its chickens on a rotisserie. Either way its an interesting way to solve the problem, and it speaks to the band's sense of humor.

Not true my brother and I went into the venue early we got to Geddys side of the stage and saw a stack of orange amplifiers at stage right and we were chased out. Apparently we weren't supposed to see that 😁 so no Geddy does not just plug straight into the board.

Neil Peart (R.I.P.) was one of the most highly regarded and influential drummers/percussionists of our time. He's been described as a walking army of percussion. His body of work is massive. He also wrote most of the lyrics of their songs as well. Thanks Professor for all your music over the years. We miss you. BTW - Rush concerts were generally anywhere from 2 1/2 to 3 hours long and somewhere in there, Neil had an epic drum solo.

I was at their moving pictures concert at the Cleveland Coliseum in Richfield Ohio in 1981. They played a total of 25 songs at least 3 hours. I had listened to all of the work before that and Neil was by far the best drummer/percussionist period his lyrics and beats took me on musical journeys like no other. It is tragic the way his life ended right when he was just retiring and enjoying what he had built over the years. Yes Rush is an amazing example of talent in the music industry.

I saw them in Frankfurt (Festhalle) in ‘82 for their Signals tour. Peart drum kit wasn’t that expansive but he did have a lot of percussion and tubular bells. Of course he had a drum solo. See the newer one of him in Frankfurt with this drum kit.

The shirts loaded in the dryers were passed out after the cycle finished, emblazoned with 'this shirt came from dryer #1 (2,3) on the (insert appropriate) tour'. Never got one, too far from the stage. They had a crew member come out and load the shirts and quarters, yes they were laundromat dryers and apparently a hassle for them to obtain (can't have mismatched appliances)

Just as importantly, they wrote and played the music they wanted to despite record company pressures or often ridicule/ignorance from haters or lazy people who couldn't listen past Geddy's voice. As I read in The Times' obituary of Neil Peart here in the UK, they stayed true to themselves and the 16 year old who would never 'bow to the man'. I will love this band forever.

The song after the amazing intro is "The Spirit Of Radio", one of Rush's biggest ever hits. The intro itself contains short snippets of many Rush tracks woven together. This is all just totally gobsmacking in its epicness - all three of them just killing it - Neil on drums, showing why he really was just about the best ever behind a kit - Alex, as generally understated, but masterful as always, and Geddy pounding the bass, and still singing as only he can, even after so many years. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant - that is all.

Yes, this was just the show intro. Only 2.5 hours of music to follow. I saw this tour twice, both indoor and outdoor. In addition to their god-level talent, endless catalogue, and seasoned stage presence they maintain a brilliant pace of show, it's a fast 3 hours. As I think back there was really only 8 or so pauses to collect myself, they just keep going with setlists that allow emotions to just flow into each other. For each of the 3 times I saw Rush live the drum solo from Neil (2 hours into set, 30 mins after intermission) stole the show. I was numb the first time I heard/saw his solo live. I just remember Geddy and Alex coming on stage after the solo, acoustic guitars in hand setting up to give Neil a rest, while we are roaring for Neil. They look at each other, shrug, put their guitars down and join us in cheering for Neil's greatness. It was probably 5-10 minutes before they resumed the show, just enjoying the moment. That tour was in support of Vapor Trails, the first album following Neil's family tragedy and 5 year hiatus from playing. Looking back that brief moment of communal unadulterated joy in admiration of Neil is my lasting memory of him.

The main song (after about 7 minutes) was The Spirit of Radio. It's about how music should be about artistry and integrity, not just money. The title was also the slogan of a Toronto radio station, which was an indie/alternative/new wave station which shook things up around here in those days. Neil Peart also wrote the lyrics to the vast majority of their songs, as well as being the best percussionist of his time. The instrumental intro includes snippets from about a dozen of their songs. A true Rush fan could name every one of them, but I recognized Finding My Way, Anthem, Free Will, Bastille Day, and A Passage To Bangkok. Rush created songs that covered entire sides of vinyl albums, and even had a song that started on one album, then had "to be continued", and was the first side of the next album. If you're willing to do a 20 minute reaction some time, you should check out "2112" (twenty-one twelve), which was the first side of the album of the same name. It is awesome. Their most brilliant instrumental (IMO) is La Villa Strangiato, and is also worth checking out. Cheers!

This intro was just Rush's way of getting more of their songs into the show. They had forty years of music and it became more and more difficult to put them all in. The intro was a medley of six songs followed by a complete playthrough of "Spirit of Radio". Their shows were usually about three hours long which just isn't enough time to do all of their stuff justice.

I saw this live in Las Vegas. Geddy was wearing a "Girls Gone Wild" t-shirt. This was the best concert I ever attended. The audience stood throughout most of the performance. The intro was a compilation of much of their early work.

Best drummer of all time. Neil's body of work will live for ever. I was so privileged to be influenced by Neil's style and organization. His joy when he was in town before a concert on the local FM radio station while he quickly explains his lyrics, music, time signatures and arrangements. Privileged for the chance to enjoy his amazing magical moments of rhythm, story and amusement through out the thirty some concerts that I was lit up for in so many States and so many states of mind. I always Rushed growing up. Big Wheel Thank you Neil Geddy and Alex. Privileged.... Neil is so sadly missed.

Geddy Lee's bass was directly plugged into the sound system instead of having a lot of amps. He needed to have something to fill his side of the stage, so he used things like washer/dryers, chicken rotisseries, and a bunch of different-sized horns and antique machinery steampunk style.

Rush’s main complaint from fans is them not playing all 30+ albums at each performance, so they start with a medley of earlier tunes. The washing machines on Geddy’s side balance out the wall of amps on Alex’s side. My buddy caught a t-shirt at the end of the show that came from their machines. The hula girls started after Alex began serenading the roadies with his yodelling prowess during their sound checks. They’d put post-stick signs (like their fans signs) on the dolls and put them in front of Alex before show time. This instrumental has a pretty decent drum solo and top tier bass playing. kzread.info/dash/bejne/c399xZRpfMzdY8Y.html

Okay, time to answer some of your questions on this from a life-long RUSH fan. First off, they are my favorite band EVER and Neil Peart was the G.O.A.T. on drums (RIP, Neil). I saw this tour twice with the first show in Tampa, then in S. Florida and start to finish both shows were off the chain! The dryers are a funny story in their own and had t-shirts in them that were tossed out by dudes dressed like Angus Young from AC/DC during the show. Alex had his huge stacks of guitar amps on his side of the stage, but Geddy played bass through nothing more than a wireless unit into a Sansamp direct box straight to the PA. Alex told him he needed something on his side to balance out the show, so this was Geddy's humorous response (these guys could all be comedians if they ever wanted to change careers LOL!). On the tour afterward he started having rotisserie chicken and popcorn vending machines (seriously). Three incredible musicians with a sense of humor that brought us 40+ years of amazing music with lyrics that invoked civility, humanity and deep thought.

I saw them 3 times on that tour (Red Rocks, Seattle, and Portland). The crowd’s energy & response to that opener was like nothing else. People were going wild, screaming, and jumping up and down (just like in this video)! His Frankfurt solo is amazing. For an earlier solo of his that explodes with power, check out the solo in “YYZ” from their Exit, Stage Left album. Pure intensity!

I saw Rush on this tour in Glasgow on the 14th Sep 04, this dvd was recorded in Frankfurt on the 24th Sep 04. The tumble dryers were there as I remember for two reasons; Lorne Wheaton (Neil's drum tech) was behind them so he was closer to Neil( he popped out a few times through out the evening)and they were also full of t-shirts that they threw into the audience at the end of the two and a half hour concert. These shirts were not available anywhere else. The intro was a medley of songs that Rush always played on tour, they wanted to change the play list with a slightly different one so they came up with this amazing "overture" so they weren't left out. After the concert my ears were ringing for hours with the volume. I think Rush sounded every bit as good live as they did on recordings. They also want back to England to do a secon concert in Birmingham before going to Germany because of demand.

I was a rock drummer for over 40 years. I started aged 8. I had no lessons, I just picked up the sticks and started playing my brothers friends kit. Still not sure how that works. You build up stamina and strength in your arms. But if your technique is right you allow the bounce of the heads to do most of the work. You remember all the parts, but it takes months of rehearsals to get it tight. I've had a few people ask me to teach them, but I can tell within a couple of minutes whether they're gonna manage it or not. You need really good hand, eye coordination and a natural sense of rhythm and be able to move your hands and feet seperately. As you pointed out it's a bit like flying a chopper, it gets to the point where you no longer have to think about it. Amazing reaction dude. ✌️♥️🇬🇧
