    Given the overall superiority of Russia. I've got to give Ukrainian troops due credit for resisting as long as they have. Facing fearsome losses of soldiers and constant territorial retreats. A doggedness fuelled by misplaced patriotism, anti-Russia propaganda, and fantastical promises of victory emanating from the West. Maybe they will eventually share Putin's vision of Russians and Ukrainians as one people, informed by a shared history?

    Funny how some people keep excusing Biden and the Democrats by always talking about "NATO." Safe redirecting for leftists. It is Biden who took money from Ukraine after financing the 2014 coup, it is he who gave Zelensky more arms and completely free reins to invade Donbass, prompting Russia to intervene. Go ahead, dare say it. Biden. You can say that, can't you?

    Inverted totalitarianism, unlike classical totalitarianism, does not revolve around a demagogue or charismatic leader. It finds expression in the anonymity of the Corporate State. It purports to cherish democracy, patriotism, and the Constitution while manipulating internal levers. ― Chris Hedges , Empire of Illusion: The End of Literacy and the Triumph of Spectacle

  • @tommackling

    @tommackling

    Ай бұрын

    Personally I don't like the term "inverted totalitarianism", as it suggests that perhaps the societal pyramid has been inverted, so that the mighty base rests on its apex, which now lies at the bottom. (But of course this is not the case with corporatocracy as we know it, as while there may a an abundance of corporations and corporate actors, the principal condition that the 99.9% still effectively fall under the control and dominion of less than 0.1% of the population, - the "ownership elite" which effectively constitute a kind of modern day aristocracy, still prevails. That is, It remains fully totalitarian in nature, not genuinely inverted in any sense, even though it may be the evil of plutocracy rather than autocracy, ie. the imposition of the will of a tiny minority rather than that of a single individual.) I mean "inverted totalitarianism" basically sounds like a good and desirable thing, and so I think the term is actually inappropriate and quite misleading. Ah, presumably the "mercantile revolution" was a step towards the de-concentration of power, from a relatively tiny number of nobles and royalty constituting what was then the aristocracy (or ruling class), to a significantly broader number of affluent merchants, and people with the opportunity to become affluent merchants. But (imo) the primary evil of totalitarianism is the imposition of another's will over what ought to be a matter of individual judgement and choice, which is typically associated with an excessive concentration of societal power and authority, and where, rather than a mechanism to serve the interests and well being of the population as a whole, the government becomes a tool for a tiny minority and a cudgel by which this tiny minority can impose their will on the majority. (And the problem we face with the "inverted totalitarianism" of corporatocracy is essentially due to a tendency for power and wealth to become concentrated into fewer and fewer individuals, until the world is once again, effectively ruled by a small number of, albeit hidden "kings", i.e. individuals that effectively command and control many millions of others.) And so, even if somewhat disguised, it is still totalitarianism, although it is presumably still preferable that the illusion of choice and freedom might remain, and that one's subjugation may seem not unbearably harsh. (Ah, if you don't care for all my "philosophical explanation" that's ok. I mainly just wanted to say that I think the term "inverted totalitarianism" sucks, lol.) Cheers and all the best

    Like, Ukraine and Israel have something in common. The beginning of the war in Ukraine is considered to be April-May 2014. In 2014 (July 8-August 26), Israel launched an attack on the Gaza Strip. Negotiations between Hamas and Israel were supposed to take place in Egypt, but Israeli officials simply did not show up for these meetings. The media almost did not report this. Eventually negotiations took place and the war was stopped. On October 7, 2023, when it became approximately clear that Kyiv’s counteroffensive had run out of steam, a kind of Hamas attack on Israel took place.

That was the start of the Donbas War, however THE ACTUAL WAR between Ukraine and Russian really started on 2/24/14 when Viktor Yanukovych the deposed UA president went into exile in Russia. "Russians might indeed reach the Dnjepr by the end of summer". That would be a very unlikely result...

    Drones cost a lot less than the weapons used to shoot them down. One must not forget the cost of the people who would have died otherwise.

    Anyone noticed our host seams to be almost laughing ? NOT AT THE WAR !!! At the things he finds himself having to say ? HE is very careful about what and how he speaks. I would like to have a beer and a chat with him

    The only reason why Ukrainian officials would ever publicly state a timeframe in which they believe Russia is dead set on capturing a certin location is if they feel confident they can hold said settlement up to at least that point and are trying to gain some propaganda victory by saying "see we're still here despite us saying that you wanted to take this place by now" They did the same shit over a year ago with the battle of Bakhmut.
