Rupert Sheldrake - On Scientism, Morphic Resonance and the Extended Mind | Episode 204

Rupert Sheldrake is a biologist and author of 9 books and over 100 scientific papers. A critic of what he sees as the scientific establishment’s dogmatic dedication to materialism, he is perhaps best known for his theory of “morphic resonance,” via which information and activity can be transferred across space and time. Rupert joins the show to discuss being branded a heretic, how to test for telepathy, his advice for young scientists, and MUCH more!

Pythagoras means Heart of the Serpent, he was born in Sidon, a fishing Port in Phoenicia. His mother recieved a message from the Oracle of Delphi that he would become a great Leader and Teacher. Sidon means Kingdom of the Fish, and the Essenes, who wrote the Dead Sea scrolls, worshipped Pythagoras. The Sarcophagus of Eschmun III found in Sidon names him as the Widow's Scion, aka Hiram Abiff, the Founder of Freemasonry, of which Tyre was the premier Capital (at least equal to Thebes). In 911BC Rameses II married the Queen of Sidon, home of Jezebel (Daughter or consort of Baal, basically "Queen") founding Neo Assyrian Babylon, an alliance between Egypt and Hiram, father of Jezebel and King of Assyria, and Egypt, forming the Phoenician colonies and building the first Temple of Melqart to commemorate the alliance. The Si in Sidon is the basis of the Latin Exe, or X, and is the basis of the Cross, or Chi Rho that Constantine painted on his shields. Also known as the Cross of Tyre, or Cross of Baal, being Ra-El, or Ba'El. Oddly enough irrational numbers can also be mapped using Euler's number, producing a Templar Cross in the process: a map of where Eclipses are most likely to occur. This cross can also be seen around the neck of Nimrod in Assyria, and is consistent with the Union Jack, and Solstice Calendar found in the Vatican Shiva Lingam. Shiva is the Hebrew word for 7, their culture also found its way to Japan (via the Phillipines) ultimately becoming Shintoism. It was the Phoenicians who gave their name to the Pole Star, which they used to Navigate the Oceans using the Zodiac, thats what the Antikythera mechanism was for, and with it they wrote the Byblos Baal, what we now call the Bible. The first form of the Bible was written in 325BC and called the Vaticanus Greacus, or Son of the Sacred Serpent, a reference to Sirius, the basis of the Sothic Calendar, which uses a Hexidecimal or base 60 system found in all the Megalithic sites around the world. In the second century AD astronomer Valentinus Vettori transcribed it into a Lunar chart of 13 houses, what we now call the Zodiac. Horoscope means Star Watcher, and the Phoenician word for Saturn, or El, was Israel or El, (Fruit) of Isis and Ra. Alternatively El is the Father of Ra the Sun and Consort of Isis the Earth, aka El is the Moon. El is the primary God of the Phoenicians, representing the offspring of Egypt, and his consort Astarte or Ishtar represents the Assyrian half of the alliance. It may be possible to trace lineages and alliances through the naming of gods, which can be traced all the way to Ireland and the Vikings, and to Indonesia and the Americas, even as far away as New Zealand and Australia. It denotes Sirius as Son of Orion and Pleaides, which sits at 33 degrees of the Zodiac. The basis of the Sothic (dir Seth) Calendar of the Egyptians. The New Moon in this position marks Rosh Hashanah, the Egyptian, Celtic, Phoenician, and Assyrian New Year, the first New Moon of September, which is called September because it's the 7th House of the Zodiac, when the Sun is in Ophiuchus. The Phoenix, Benben, or Bennu is the Egyptian word for Heron, a Feathered 'Serpent'. It baptised itself in frankincense and myrrh at BaalBek, and then alights atop the Pyramid, upon the Holy Grail, or Altar of Ra every 630 years to take three days off the calendar during the course of the first New Moon of Nisan, which means "Prince". The Capstone of Pyramids is even called the Benben or Bennu. The Phoenix is found in all religions, which are all Astrological Allegory for the Moon travelling through the Constellations, as a soul migrating from body to body, this is the basis of Joseph Campbell's Monomyth, or the Hero's Journey. The various planets no doubt play their own roles as portents, omens, and aspects, this astrology is the science of the Bronze age, and lasted all the way up to the 20th Century. Reincarnation was an early teaching of the Christian Church, and likely relates to the lineage of Kings (The Pan is Dead, long live Pan!) Phoenicians represent the interim step between Egypt and Greece, their artisans and culture exceeding that of the Greeks, who literally adopted the Phoenician Alphabet, which we still use to this day, sounding out words phonetically. Phoenician is aliiterated in Venetian, and Vikings, being Kings of the Sea. The Bennu is the Egyptian Phoenix, to Phoenicians the Hoyle, no different to the traditions of the Etruscans, who saw birds as sacred, just as the Celts. Hebrew and Iber as in Iberia have the same root meaning over, as in overseas, as in those who travel "over the sea." A colony called Iberia also appears on the Eastern shores of the Black Sea, where the same Dolmens and Megalithic culture originating in Ireland and Brittany appeared circa 4500BC. _Phoenician_ means Scions of the Phoenix, the first Bible: Vaticanus Greacus Son of the Sacred Serpent (Prince). Then there's the Essenes, Sons of Light, the Tuatha De Danaan, Sons of Light, Annunaki, Sons of Light, Arthur Pendragon means Arthur Son of the Dragon; Chertoff is Russian for "Son of the Devil" and Dracula also means Son of the Dragon, Masons have been known at times to call themselves the "Brotherhood of the Great White Serpent". The Ziggurat of Anu also denotes her as a great white Serpent, while New Grange and the Bru na Boinne in Ireland (4000BC) coated buildings with white quartz to denote the Moon. The Moon itself travels outside the Solar Elliptic by 5 degrees, which means it passes through specific constellations in a serpentine fashion that is always changing, but repeats every 19 years, the time it took to train a Druid or Magi, Magi meaning "Teacher" the Phoenix is also associated with this sacred number 19. The name "Pharoah" means "Great House" or "House of Light" and Cairo used to be called Babel. Pharaoh's themselves wore a hooded crown representing feathers, just as Native American Chiefs, ie the Feathered Serpent, they were also called the Commander in Chief. Aztecs also had Serpent Kings, (Canaan means Serpent Kings, and Sidon was a Son of Canaan, and Great Grandson of Noah) who were called to lead with cunning and guile, being the very virtue by which they claim the title in the first place; but to be seen in public as just and diplomatic. "As wise as Serpents, but gentle as Doves" the old Egyptian flag of an Eagle attacking a Snake is also reflected in the Modern Mexican flag, denoting the Constellations of Serpentis (13th sign of the Zodiac) and Aquila. The dimensions and 12 mathematical constants of the Great Pyramid are also expressed in New Grange, and Stonehenge, as well as in Watson Brake, (2500BC) and Teotihuacan, which correlates to the Phoenician/ Sumerian Hexidecimal system, which is what our modern systems of time are based on. In fact it unlocks a kind of fractal pattern that is reflected throughout creation. Officially no one knows who invented astrology, the zodiac, navigation by the stars, and time keeping. But whoever built the pyramids, and pioneered the 24hr clock in Egypt 5000 years ago also knew the exact dimensions of the Earth, as well as the speed of light. These calculations can all be made using these Megalithic sites as surveyors use a theodolite. Specifically Teotihuacan, which sits 180 degrees opposite Cairo, and has the exact same footprint. The ideal positions to determine the speed of light using the transit of Venus, by which one can accurately determine Longitude for navigation. Capt Cook did the same thing in 1774 when he 'discovered' Easter Island. The only culture that fits the bill was wiped out "not one stone upon the other" by the Romans in 146BC. Tyre, the capital of Phoenicia (israel) sat just offshore from Uru Salaam: City of the New Moon, or City of Peace. The root of the name Jerusalem, and was also seized by Rome in 70AD after a 13 year seige. The gap between is 216 years. Greek Dionysians built the Temple of Solomon (now called the Temple of Melqart) representing the Solar Lunar Metonic Calendar on which this system is based, they also carried mirrors, a practice associated with both the Magi and the Druids as well as Greek and Egyptian scholars, these Mirrors are Astrological charts called "Cycladian Frying Pans" and record the cycles of the planets. The first Temple of Melqart (the Phoenician form of Horus, or Hercules, or Pan, or Thor) representing the 13th Constellation of Ophiuchus or the Serpent Bearer (hence Orphic Serpent worship) had pillars of Emerald and Gold, representing Isis and Osiris. The Jerusalem Temple only took payment in "Shekels of Tyre" a currency minted during the Jewish rebellion against Rome. "Give that which is Ceasar's unto Ceasar" When Alexander sacked Tyre in 332BC they moved to Carthage meaning "New City" or New Jerusalem, where they built a second temple with Pillars of Bronze. Nebuchadnezzar also seiged Tyre for 13 years, taking the City captive in 573BC: the same time as the biblical account of the Jews. And again in 70AD after a three and a half year seige, also consistent with biblical accounts. Palaset was the name of a tribe of the Sea Peoples, Pallas Set denotes the New Moon of Ammun Ra rising in Gemini, the Pallas Constellation of the Twins that stand before Orion. This occurs due West of the Temple of Solomon in Tyre between the Western Gates of Gibraltar, Gabriel's Altar, and is the basis of the name Pallastein, or Pallas Stone. As in the Philosopher's Stone or Holy Grail, Altar of Ammun Rah, the Rising Sun. The Cross of Tyre or Ba'El ❌ represents the Lunar maximums and minimums and correlates with the Cross Quarter days of the Solstice Calendar. Align the Cross ❌ Chi Rho Christian ✝️ and Star 🔯 to the zodiac and you have a Compass and a timepiece that can be used to Circumnavigate the globe.

I had a strong telepathic experience about 40 years ago. I was travelling in England. At the time it was very expensive to call my mother in Australia so I would ocassionally write to my mother. One night, I was woken up with a terrible feeling that I had to ring home. I asked the people whom I was staying with if I could use their phone as it was an emergency. Something I would never do normally. Anyway, I called my mother, who quickly answered the phone. She said, " I am so glad you got my message", I said "what message?" She said that she had been willing me to call her as there was a disaster at home that she had to tell me about!!! Odd, it happens a lot with my son and I, too.

Ive had experience with telepathy with my friend. We took a psychedelic called lsa (seeds of some sort) and went for a walk in the forrest, we sat down and my friend just asked me what do i see, and i saw with my closed eyes a purple saturn, then he started laughing and asked me to think of something and then i imagined a yellow lego block 2 by 3, he knew it before i told him in the same way i did the first time. We have repeated this over 12 times and just laughed our asses out. This is not "i hear your thoughts" kind of telepathy, its more like "i see what you mean". Something that T. Mckenna talked about. This is a true experience. If you dont believe in it, go and do your research on how to experience this kind of things. Psychedelics are great teachers and they will crush your model of reality, doesnt matter what you believe in. I am a recovered materialist, it took me satori to realize that basic "truths" that i knew about the world were just assumptions. 😂

I thought it was very kind of you to indicate that the TRUTHS you had been taught and accepted was just assumptions. Moving on from that, what I began to think after reading your comment was what a very famous autistic woman --whose famous work was with cows-- said: she sees pictures; she thinks in pictures and that's why she can understand animals because they think in pictures and she can see the picture in their mind and then she knows how to treat them or she knows what their fear is. WHAT you're speaking of is probably HOW we ALL as human animals thought long ago -- in pictures-- and we could transfer those pictures from One brain to another it wasn't that hard and we did it with ALL the animals that we lived among and even the animals that we had to kill to eat. Most of us have lost that ability to see and think in pictures and so we have lost that telepathy that was innate and immediate and pervasive in our lives and helped us stay centered &;stay unfearful, ie without fear, because we could see it in our brain before it even happened and maybe take steps to preclude it happening if it was something negative. 😶‍🌫️🤯💩🧠 My last text to a friend is usually all emojis 😉💭

Once every 30 seconds, people's brainwave frequencies overlap and you have a window of telepathy. More likely to occur when the Earth's magnetic field is calm. Dr Michael Persinger is the ultimate source for telepathy research. He even open-sourced technology you can build at home that is proven to link minds and to quantum entangle photons at a distance. I suspect in your telepathic moment, you and she were sharing a space -- thru magnetism. Magnetism and time by the way are one thing. See Dr Todd Murphy's "consciousness arises as intrinsic property of magnetism". Paper and video. The key to the reality of morphogenic fields is given by Dewey Larson's Reciprocal Systems Theory of Space and Time. There are 2 hidden dimensions of time. I think telepathy happens a lot between animals and humans. But I have a different story which was a dream: I was living on an island in Crete and those were the days when there was a freedom and my friend and I were sleeping in a church because they left them open and they were tiny churches on these little hilltops. I had a chocolate chip cookie and I was pretty naughty cuz I didn't want to share it. SO the dream I had had to do with my chocolate chip cookie and trying to hide it from my traveling companion. Well in the morning she told me she had a dream about a chocolate chip cookie and I thought OH NO. Luckily she didn't pick up the part-- by telepathy-- that I had hidden it from her so I wouldn't have to share it. I don't really remember what happened after that. But I never forgot that shared dream!!

I think its because materialism is cult-like in the sense that, like a cult, if you are 'in' the cult you have privileges and a 'special' identity but if you are 'out' you are seen as dangerous to other 'cult' members..you might contaminate them and bring them 'out' of the cult rendering the cult less powerful because a cult needs a certain amount of members and preferably member with resources to be shared within the cult...its all terribly irrational and makes a mockery of the idea of science or morality...sound familiar?

Does Dr Sheldrake have any comment on the decline effect? The decline effect has been observed not only in studies of psi phenomena but also 'regular' phenomena, such as declining efficacy of antidepressant medications in clinical trials over the decades. It seems to run counter to morphic resonance, if I understand correctly; I've only seen a handful of interviews with / lectures by Dr Sheldrake, so I might be mistaken. Is it a kind of habituation of the resonance field? I guess I should read his book, but I hate spending money and of course my public library system doesn't have any of his books.

  • @MarmaladeINFP

It's not clearly contrary to the morphic resonance theory. It can be understood as simply living in a dynamic society. Collective mentalities, belief systems, and placebo effect are unstable. Causing temporary shifts in efficacy of a pharmaceutical or whatever is far easier than to permanently establish it. Look at religions. Christianity, for example, took many centuries to become a dominant ideology that shaped social reality. Think about how long it might've taken before holy sites and saintly relics became miraculously reliable.

The millennia of impact of monotheistic religious on the human psyche, and on the institutions humans create can't be overstated. I call it mono-thougjtism and it dominates human thinking to a near unanimous degree. That there is any independent thinking leads me ro believe that the intutive mode is intrinsic in humans and monothoughtism is second nature, inculcated early and relentlessly reinforced.

Modern society is still under the thrall of monotheistic fundamentalism. It's just become so dominant that it is hidden in plain sight. It might be, as Sheldrake argues, simpy the opposite version of fundamentalism. In reaction against the cult of the Sky Father, scientism is the cult of the Earth Mother (where 'mother' and 'matter' share an etymology).

Of the17 (or the 25, according to some) particles in the Standard Model, the only particle that has any direct link to any perception by any living being is the PHOTON ~ the source of sight perception. But there are 5 more senses (including BREATHING as the common sense linking PLANTS, ANIMALS and HUMANS). Even far more important, there are NEED (hunger, fear, pain) and corresponding SATISFACTION (say, food, clothe, shelter relevant) perceptions, which SHOULD all be assigned unique particles. This reduces the Standard Model to just 12 types of particles ~ all of which are MEASURABLE directly by individual beings. Then if we associate the DIGITS as the unique ones among the 12 mentioned types of particles that enable all calculations (in all NATURAL as well as all SOCIAL sciences), with the 4 basic arithmetic operations as the only NATURAL LAWS OF MOTION, we can link all biological events as functions of these 12 types of elementary particles. If we then derive the mathematical model of how particle interactions among these very same 12 types of particles inside the earth develop PLANTS on its own surface, to deliver and sustain beings here through them, then the accuracy of that model (hence also of the existence of so assumed particles) is verifiable through its applicability directly by every lay person to influence development of, and subsequent growth on, PLSNTS by programming consciously the air, liquids and solids each person releases to the environment (= to PLANTS in the final result). Neither any specially designed experiments nor such observstions are nedded to verify the accuracy of the model, as PRACTICAL APPLICABILITY to positively influence life function is the sole purpose cum criterion of proof of all search for knowledge. The particles that cause the other 5 sense perceptions and the 6 that cause need and satisfaction perceptions in all beings ARE THE REAL HIDDEN VARIABLES. Substiting 17 (or 25) particle types of the Standard Model with just 12, incidentally, satisfies the Occam's Razor too. This totally Biological Standard Model renders PHYSICS, CHEMISTRY, MATHEMATICS, BIOLOGY (and other social sciences) as separate branches of knowledge superfluous.

As if he’s exploring the world scientifically to see if there is more than that, but from the bias that there isn’t, unless we have good reason to believe so, and that too is beautiful enough. A question, if anyone would be interested in tackling it. What prospect is there of a cataclysimically short-circuiting kind of collision of two trajectories now accelerating directly towards each other? That is, the "rethinking consciousness" and the "transhuman" trajectories. For an extremely specific point: let's say, for argument's sake, that there is a "natural" wave of discovery and development in human, "natural" telepathy. At the same time, it is becoming ridiculously obvious, isn't it, that the human race is speeding toward a virtual telepathy sans the least "mumbo-jumbo" (as the materialist might say), thanks purely to the inevitable advances in computer technology, so that one fine day now--"6th sense" or NO "6th sense"--we'll be able to "think" to each other via the chips reading signals from our brains and radiating them to our intended (also a signal) receiver, with no more trouble than one posts something on Facebook today. If, then, we (or they, as I don't expect to be around for that, thankfully) are all functionally telepathic ANYWAY, then WHAT role or avenue will be left for whatever "natural" telepathic aspect there might have been, or that could have been developed? Isn't it most likely to go the way of the appendix and the little toe?

So nice to hear these intelligent conversation, rather than someone trying to shut down Sheldrake's ideas. They are ideas that everybody has, at one time or another, and we just drop them as no one gets up and runs with them and all we get is blank stares! We humans ALL experience the sort of things Sheldrake has been working on. I have never understood why there is such zeal to squash them. What are we all afraid of? That we'll be right?? Ghosts, for example.... The seeing or feeling of ghosts is so incredibly common, in all cultures, times and eras, that I simply accept them as being real. Why not? Why would millions of people report such similar things and yet all of them be making it up? That's too silly. Of course the phenomenon is real when it's real. Yes it can be faked, but it obviously isn't always faked. I didn't fake the ghosts I saw!! I have no idea what it MEANS but let not that lack of understanding lead us into lack of acceptance of this mystery. I have no idea how to study it, except in those sites famed for being haunted (which is far from the most common way of experiencing ghosts) but to dismiss it is probably irresponsible.

The private government contractors (like SAIC) don't divulge their scientific findings in the interest of national security. So we are left with DARPA's lame explanation of their research.

Yes, when clarity and coherence are concerning...all under the SUN nor can't touch the roof of my air nor heaven above. Likewise look at all Thy shared Feet resting upon "Who's Footstool HIS VINEYARDS RESTING UPON "? Why? Remember Thy shared "i" AM! Even why? Can't exist in front! Without? Aren't ye all IN FRONT? Even feet resting upon the very tip of time can't exist in front! Students will say remember Thy shared "i" AM and shared Feet resting upon HIS FOOTSTOOL! Yes, HIS STUDENTS, HEIRS HOSTS, AND HIS BEAUTIFUL SHARED "i" AM. Attendees of HIS VINEYARDS! Some will say who are you? Before ye even have the privilege to ask the question.

You just frighten the hell out of them. Galileo did the same. They cannot comprehend that anyone can think like you. It is all about conformity to straight jacket beliefs.

Modern science promotes discipline mindsets. Rupert sheldrake is a holistic thinker. There's no way that disciplined mindset with authority can understand the thinking capacity above them.

That is not as coherent a comment as you think. “Deep” depends on both the thoughts and the subject, not just the subject of thought.

The same is true of climate crisis. Unless you claim the end is nigh you are called a denier whatever that means. They close down debate which has terrible consequences for true science.
