I'm curious. How would the MBT sound on orchestral music? From what I'm hearing in this video, I think it could work really nicely!

From 9:42 - 9:58 or so, you can hear a lot of added noise when the unit is engaged. As he's switching the unit in and out, that noise is quite a lot. Hmmm.

Hello, Hector! You most definitely can have the Master Bus Transformer in a chain with any other piece of outboard gear. It has a compressor on board, but there is nothing to say you couldn’t have another stereo compressor either before or after it. I don't believe the product is available yet, I can't find any mention of it online outside of this video.

I hear that a lot of producers have issues finalizing their tracks, making it sound more official. I feel like this type of gear/equipment would be the solution. I wouldn't say eggs in a basket, but then again who knows.

Hello, great question! In theory you could do that as long as the vocal track was already at line level (i.e. you cannot plug your mic directly into the processor). You would also want to bypass the “stereo width” section. In practice you would be much better off using a standard channel strip for that application, such as the RND Shelford channel. That has a preamp, and the compressor and EQ are designed specifically for what you’re trying to do. Thanks! Gain matching is nonsense. 90% of the time you'll use this unit to get more juice out of your source, which means it will add gain to your signal. Totally legit real-world scenario.

RND are designed and built in Wimberley, Texas. Rupert moved there in the mid 90s. AMS Neve (separate entities), though, are all designed and built in the UK. This RND unit should be available in the UK soon. They build in small batches, so not widely available yet.

Do you not see the irony in your statement? "Objective opinion" is a contradiction in terms, that makes no sense at all. But to second what jchase8223 said, of course it's a store showing you some samples of a new product for sale, trying to entice you to buy it. It's business, clearly. It's up to you to decide whether you think the presentation added value to you or not.

It's not a "paid promotion." It's a demo of an item they're selling in their store. This is literally the Sweetwater store's channel. Sweetwater is a major musical gear retailer. Nowhere do they claim to be gear review channel. They got a new product in and are telling you about it. Rupert Neve designs didn't pay them to make this video. The way Sweetwater gets paid is by selling the product. Just like any other company selling a product, they're telling you about its existence and showing you what it does.

Rupert would not have approve this. The MBP already exist.

if a plug in could do what the hardware does, all hardware companies would go out of business over night. but in reality, the hardware is WAY better sounding. I wish it wasn't so but its reality.

Plugs sound close on a single source, like one instance, but as a cumulative thing, hardware wins, it will destroy a bunch of plugins versus a lot of outboard. Good news is most people listen on less than ideal speakers so does it even matter??

@@wyrlismike Nothing 'worse', just a different, a more modern feel. I also do guitar tech work on the side so I can usually adjust any newer guitar where it's comfortable to play.

More or less like SSL fusion at double the price.....plugins will get pretty close at one tenth the price.

Yeah, that’s what lots of people say till they start adding good hardware and then they get hooked. I was one of those people. I’d love to sell my hardware but the difference is still real, hopefully it’ll eventually become impossible to tell the difference but that time isn’t now.

​@@louderthangodyeah a plug in sounds close using one instance but across a whole mix a lot of "pretty close" starts to add up and a mix using a lot of hardware versus software will definitely show a large difference. I just made the switch to outboard after using only plug inside for 25 years and good hardware is in an entirely different league

4k$ for doing something that with digital plugins can be done for free… I see no reason to buy this

Brother, based on this comment I can assume you've never experienced analog outboard gear yourself. Maybe I'm wrong and you have. Once you experience it, you hear and feel the difference it makes. There's absolutely NO way a plugin can recreate what happens when audio runs through a unit like this that's loaded with custom designed transformers. It's simply impossible. If you can't notice any difference whatsoever between a plugin and analog gear, you ears are still developing and becoming a more mature audio engineer/producer. And that's ok, we're all on a journey in that regard (myself included). And I'll leave you with a parting thought - if plugins are literally all you need, why do the world's most elite producers still keep their analog gear? I know a lot of them mix in the box, but were the tracks recorded with premium analog gear? I think it's safe to say "yes". Just sharing my thoughts, not trying to diss you at all.

Why are you wasting your time watching a video about outboard gear if you think plugins can do the same thing? Maybe they can, but then don't click on a link for a piece of outboard gear. This is just how much outboard gear costs. The reason it costs that much is that it the parts, the research and development, the manufacturing, and the distribution all cost a lot of money. Do you complain about how much microphones cost? Or guitars? Also, you "see no reason to buy this." So what? Just move on then. Why do you see the need to tell everyone? I see no reason to buy an expensive car, but I don't seek out Lexus videos to comment on.
