There's really a lot of ways to interpret this song, when you think about it. The original meaning by the artist, apparently, was to talk about the fact that if men and women could switch roles, they'd understand each other better, and that as a man she would feel as if she'd have more opportunities and ease of living. How I initially interpreted it, however, which was influenced by the whole Stranger Things thing of course, was that the perspective of the singer is someone who cares enough to switch places with the other person, who's presumably in a bad situation, and shoulder their burden, represented as the hill, with no qualms.

Your second interpretation is exactly how I took it too! I've heard the song before, but never listened to the lyrics before Stranger Things. When I was telling my mom why the song had a sudden resergence of popularity because of the show and how it fit with the character, she didn't see the song the same way I did. I guess she saw it more like the original artist meant it to be. Still an amazing song either way

I have never screamed for a character to run faster than when Max started running to the sound of this song. Incredible song choice, and incredible voice to cover it.

I'm not in the singing industry, but you and Ms Bush share the same...gruff tone? It's sort of thick, slightly masculine yet you are able to transition to high tones and notes with ease. It could essentially be second alto, she can hit the range at the cusp range of tenor, like I can. Tho I would say she has a more spread range then a second alto, so she’s technically a theatre contralto.

This whole scene made me cry as it truly conveyed suffering and struggling with trauma. You don't just "get over it". It stays with you. And it was so emotional because it showed Max finally accepting she has this trauma and had people around her who she care for-- inevitably the ones who will always have her back. Truly a beautiful visual of what trauma can do when it consumes you. Some people aren't able to escape it until it's too late and others are lucky enough to gain courage to "run up that hill" :')

Can we talk about how, almost forbidden fairytale sounding her voice is? It's so powerful and it honestly gives me chills. Amazing work! I LOVE THISSS

The shivers I got from that build up during the “Come on baby” section were insane. And the overlapping vocal just murdered me. AMAZING

This gave me chills. The art, the singing, all of it. Brought me back to that one scene where Max wanted to die and was fully ready to accept it, but when it finally came she realized she didn’t want to die and that she has so much to live for. Max is an example to anyone who’s suicidal or simply lost hope. Death is not the way. No matter what, you have something to live for.

I love how much this cover provides a sort of bitter cold comfort after connecting this song with a moment in Stranger Things. With all the loss and pain the show gives, this song is the perfect anthem to the viewer's grief.

The vocals overlapping at the end just makes this so much more emotional and literally gave me chills. Love it

I’ve heard this song so many times now but the fact that Anna is doing a cover means I’m willing to listen to it at least another 100,000 times

That scene where Max was running from Vecna, my wife and I were cheering out loud for her to make it while this song was blaring! Intense moment!

The first time this song was used is great, but THE SECOND TIME! oh my god, the chills, the raw epicness was just incredible. Hopper charging and decapitating the demogorgon, robin and steve chucking the molotov cocktails and burning vecna, vecna reacting and trying to tank the fire, and of course nancy shooting vecna four times in the chest and sending him plummeting down to the ground. Hands down the best scene in the entire show.
