Running On A Private Island - Am I running another marathon?

Фильм және анимация

I finished my second marathon (NYC Marathon). I loved the experience and I believe I am officially hooked. I didn't quite hit the time I was shooting for in NYC so I signed up for another marathon to hopefully redeem myself. The training continues and so does my daughters on her first journey to run a half marathon.

Some congrats all around on this one. Congrats to Chris for throwing your hat back into the ring for the next 26.2. Stay strong, stay calm, take one step at a time. And congrats to Lauren... You've arrived at what I call "coming at it from both directions". You're doing mileage, and doing stuff off the road in order to make things on the road just that little bit easier. That's what it's all about. Keep going, you can do it, we all know you can.

Hey man, really enjoyed watching a couple of your vids tonight. Seeing you go from 0-marathon gives me extra confidence in myself to run my first one 6months from now and motivates me to put in the work. Good luck in Houston, you got this!

Chris, I am loving your journey, brother. I am doing very much the same as you. Vlogging my training and build up to a BEAST of a marathon at the end of January 2020. This is NOT my first marathon though. I have done quite a few in my 45 years, but.... In 2016 after not having run any miles for close to 6 years I decided to take on a marathon again. 2 months on training, using every trick in the book, hoping my experience of more than 10 previous marathons as well as one 56km Ultra would carry me to the end. It was not to be. This race, The Redhill Marathon in Fish Hoek, South Africa, has a bloody hill (read: mountain) at the 26km marker. 2.4km of death, elevation of around 120m within 2.4km. At 28.4km my body shut down. I couldn't feel my feet... I had to accept defeat. 😞 I was broken, mentally. I didn't run again for 3 1/2 years. 3 months ago I decided to start training again, to take on my nemisis again. So far so good. 5 weeks to go. Check out my channel: Run, MaceR1CK Run. Apologies, some of my vids are in my native toungue, Afrikaans. I also post training updates on FB. It would mean the absolute world to me if you could like and share my vids. I will surely do the same with yours. You have renewed my resolve. Who knows, we might meet up somewhere at a race somewhere😉🏃🏃 Keep on going, Chris. Run, Chris Run. 💪👍🏅

Yes it’s definitely a nice change of pace! Those days happen. The good news is our bodies have great muscle memory and it doesn’t set you back as muck as you might think. I missed a few days this past week due to Thanksgiving festivities but tomorrow is a 14 miler. Back to the grind. Lauren’s doing great. Hope you are feeling better now. Great to hear from you!

Hey Chris, so lovely of you to think of us here ... I am fine, not near fires, but my brother down south is in the thick of the smoke though not the fires yet. Have been pretty worried and distracted by it all, but all of the well-wishes really are uplifting so thank you 🙏🏼 ❤️ Hope all is good with you ... how is Lauren going with her training?

Even though it is awful what is happening, this is great news to hear. I know there are so many that don’t have good news to share. I’m thinking about you guys and our hearts are with you! Lauren is doing good. After this next marathon I will be getting some runs in with her.

Thank you very much! Oh man you will absolutely love it! NYC is an absolute amazing race and experience. Early in I assumed it would be a flat course. I learned later it wasn’t. The bridges are no joke and offer a pretty decent challenge. I went into it I felt very prepared and felt great through about 18 miles. I broke down pretty quick after that. The last 8-9 miles was tough. There were some pretty steep grades that wore me down. You will be tempted to push a little hard on the early portion but definitely save some energy for the last 1/3 of the race. I reached out to family, friends, and colleagues. I did pretty good with the donations but still ended up paying the remainder out of pocket. Was definitely worth it even if I didn’t raise a dime and had to pay the whole thing. Please keep in touch. I’d love to hear your updates.
