Imagine seeing something like that in real life. The very ground would shake I'd bet. Great video as always Eric. Been watching since the 4-12-2 review way back when.

If you were to have a real train requiring that much power, I'm pretty sure the knuckles wouldn't be strong enough to handle it.

You're probably right. I'm sure there'd be a host of problems.

Postwar metal trucks and couplers. Specifically, post-1948 magnetic couplers. That would work. I know, I know, I can already hear everyone saying "Postwar trucks roll like crap". They do, but only before being fully taken apart, fully cleaned out, given fresh oil on all moving surfaces, then reassembled. Ever seen a single motor F3 pull 20 early 1950s cars? I have.
@johnandrus3901
2 жыл бұрын
Certainly not true. The way couplers, draft gear and drawbars work transfers weight between each car. Modern AC units are able generate 200,000 pounds of tractive effort, so four big, modern units, will put out as much power as this combination would in real life. A 25,000 plus ton freight train takes boatloads of power to pull a heavy grade. The knuckles on locomotives are special, high-strength castings and are not meant for freight cars. A knuckle can happen on virtually any freight train, regardless of tonnage or length.
Dear LAWDY!!! Talk about model railroading “LUST”, my tongues a hangin’ on the floor now!!!!! WOW! Beyond “gorgeous”! That “hillbilly music” too was really wonderful! One of the MOST WONDERFUL model train videos ever produced, if not the GREATEST! I’m too old now, 82, but if I’d ever want to renew my model train “lust”, this video could give me “the STEAM” to do so! Love ya Eric, you ol’ “decarbonated bamboozler” you! I’m still recovering from the shock!!!!! “Ach du lieber, mein schatz”! “Gesundheit”!
Insane!! The amount of steam power you own is insane Eric!

This was awesome! 3949 looks really great in that paint scheme! Imagine if this was real life, with the Y6B working in “simple” these locomotives combined would produce 729,729 lbs of tractive effort, and well over 37,300 horsepower!!
Now I’m curious about how you know that much current will trip the breaker.

That is a lot of power. This was so satisfying to watch
Love this!! Incredible engines!
Now that's a TRAIN LOCOMOTIVE SET!!😀
Love coal/atomized oil steam locomotives. We had Big Boy pass through where I live not that long ago. I made sure to go check it out up close and drive along the tracks when it headed out to see it in action. Made me feel like I was a little boy again. 😁
Never cared much for that 3rd O gauge rail in the middle. Other than that, really cool.

I don't either. That's why I am more interested in gauge 1, but I enjoy O scale and Eric's videos regardless.
Fantastic video. I could only dream of having such a beautiful layout and magnificent engines.
I honestly wish I could get ahold of one of those legacy AC-9s. They ran in Texas which is where I'm from so it'd be amazing to have one. Also, great lashup!
Seeing the 4014 in person was well worth the time in my view. It was an amazing sight, and Big Boy is definitely a fitting nickname...

Fantastic display fantastic looking gigantic articulated motive power .. It's kind of interesting to see so many going at once and it's also so cool to hear the engine sounds of one of these individual great engines Each one can pull so much individually it's kind of awesome
OMG BEAUTIFUL! WHAT A COLLECTION AND OPERATION YOU HAVE ERIC!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for putting this together. I'm sure it was a lot of work. This could be your best video yet. Truly enjoyed it.
Wow, what a super nice lineup, great video. Thanks for sharing Eric
The most I ever did on my layout was triple-header steam. That wasn't so hard to do; nothing like this.
@ERIC's TRAINS - All of that Steam Engine Power on one layout should be against the law. LOL!🤣 AWESOME STUFF!!!
Ok, that was pretty darn cool seeing all those big engines running together. Cool video 👍
WOW!!! Best Eric's video, EVER!!!
That was cool Eric. Thanks for sharing 👍
What an exciting video! It boggles the mind to see so much power in one train. As always, nice video editing on this, loved the first person view. Thanks for all the hard work.

You should do a modern freight run where you get ur modern freight engines and pull all of your cars

Ok now that was insane fun right there, that was one of the best lash ups I've seen, love the editing as well.
Fun run Eric! I See bridge is installed!
wow that's quite a collection you got there....Kudos!..and a pet for Chessie :)
Wow that paint scheme on the UP is awesome!
Oh Boy! Look at that Gorgeous Carbon Footprint 😉👍
Absolutely beautiful. Love this setup. I drove from Houston Texas to Ft.Worth just to see 4014 in person (even though it was coming to Houston a couple of days later). Glad I got the early view. The traffic at the Houston viewing was horrible. But that just goes to show you just how popular steam engines are these days. In any case, I'd love to get my hands on that SP 3800 in HO scale.

Pretty cool running session Eric.
Lets see some tractor pull competition!
Awesome Eric! Nice crossings and signal bridge!
they look majestic! massive work horses of pure power!
Thanks Eric. Was spectacular and fun
Very cool! The smoke units on my ABA Sharknose set pull so many amps too.
Thanks for the Mt. Everest train!! Nice Bradleys and Abrams at 9:19
Now that’s what call a parade of giants.
Now this is what I call a lashup! 6 big steam locomotives running at the same time! Interestingly enough, when I started on my current layout, I had a smaller power supply, but then as I put more locos and cars on it, I found that it could barely keep up, so I eventually upgraded to the big transformer. With that big one, I did get a few circuit breaks myself, but not in the way you described above. Though I can see several smoke units running at once becoming a big problem in a big hurry.

Nice video, just the site of me seeing these beauties all hooked up together makes me think the what if factor as in real life . I know that Big Boy 4014 is alive and kicking and criss crossing this great country of ours.
Enjoyed the steam engine video thoroughly. Love it. Never seen that in o scale before.
Wow! It’s like watching The Avengers all together in one Episode. Way cool video Guy! Well done . Thanks for sharing !
WELL WORTH the wait for this video! N&W 271 performing It's job as the pusher engine!

Now that’s something you don’t ever see, cool!
Pretty impressive ! Thank you.
love your trains great video have a great day
This took a lot of planning to do. But it was cool to watch, Thanks. I do think the samething wondering if seeing this in real life would be difficult to do.
i like that the chuffing on them doesn't sound exactly the same they're all a little different
Totally amazing. Love your videos
How you know? Setup looks fantastic. Like the UP 3949 color scheme.
UNION PACIFIC BIG BOY IN THE WORLD I DON'T KNOW GOD YOU GOT 5 UNION PACIFIC BIG BOY TRAINS I LOVE IT IT'S MY FAVORITE REMEMBER ALL THE DREAMS YOU GOT A LONEL TRAIN THIS IS MY FAVORITE MEMORIES

SWEET ERIC , VERY NICE COLLE TION ! ! ! !
That part about amperage reminded me of the first time I ran the Lionel Acela. I only had a Z-1000 transformer at the time, and I ran the full six-car set. I had to turn off the car lights and tilt function so the train would make it around my 'test track' loop without popping the Z1000's breaker (6 amps)
There goes the light bill lol. Very nice indeed.
Very awesome, you always have very cool trains m cool layout 👍😊
Wow, this is realy cool.
Epic video. This content deserves 4K
That was awesome, nice job, keep up the great video's.
I love the thumbnail
🤣 I can relate when I do a 3 Sd70ace lashup the smoke units are not your friend 😤. A buddy of mine had his 4014 big boy pull all 126 of his cars and he had his challenger being dragged literally lol 😆 after the 2nd go around he started barking out breakers. But one thing I can say that big boy is Strong
Now that’s a pretty epic lashup
I hope you have a Cab forward Locomotive and if yes then we would have loved to see it added in the front of all the six articulated steam locomotives. By the way great setup and an Awesome collection you have there.
A powerhouse of a video!
Awesome Steam Power! Probably enough to pull 1000 cars!
I am finally now 25 Eric I am so happy i am
Eric, Not for nothing but I'd rather see them all running on your layout fully operational in different sections at the same time, which I'm pretty sure your layout can handle, than all of the locos on one track sextuple headed with the features disabled. I know it's impressive to see all that heavy iron(diecast) moving and admiring it because it is yours and it gives you a sense of accomplishment. Your layout is beautiful and running that heavy iron with big consists on every inch of it is what I'd be doing.
Wow . . . just Wow!!
Virginian actually called their 2-6-6-6's, which were exact copies of the C&O Allegheny, Blue Ridge. Thanks for making the video!
That was really cool

Ya know, I saw 4014 for the first time when it went through Fort Worth. Over at a park in Kennedale. Every second that went by, I thought it wouldn't get any louder. I was sorely wrong.
Way to go Eric!
Having the middle locomotives not having their smoke units powered makes it look like the engines in the front and back are transporting them to either the scrap yard or a repair yard.
INCREDIBLE
I would like to say , thumbs up to Lionel Fantasy paint schemes . The more I see that 49er ….the better it gets .
Look at it go, look at go!
