i've been an n-scaler for 50 years- 40 years in as a club motor man- and i think these huge trains are awesome! compared to what i work on- there's almost enough room to climb right in there. as a kid- i can remember mac lowrey's 'railways of america' o-scale display- mac used to yell at any kid that tried to touch something. this is a much more impressive display, but mac had a lot of scratch-made steam units that were really one-offs. thanks for posting this vid.

@kims2651 I loved electric trains when I was a little girl, too. I still do!! My older brother had a set of Lionels from the 1940s and 1950s and he was kind enough to let me play with them and run them. I have wonderful memories of those trains and those Christmases when we’d run them around the tree and my mother and I would set up a little village with those old putz houses. I used to love that wonderful smell of a train’s undercarriage after it had been running for a while. Precious happy memories.
Their is so much attention too detail in this set-up it's mind boggling. From a lady rocking in her chair, to men sawing wood, a outdoor movie theater with actual movie playing. It just doesn't stop amazing me. AWESOME job guys.

Incredible tribute to the awesome ability of this family and the detail provided by Lionel. This display isn't exceeded anywhere in the world. It takes your breath away in every way!
My uncle, not the kindest person in the world but family nonetheless RIP, introduced me to the model HO gauge train world and models in general. Trains were always at the forefront of his mind while I knew him. He had many hobbies before I was in the picture; aquariums, legos, guitars, and k-nex were among some that he collected and organized vehemently. His HO scale setup was the most impressive modeling I've seen in person by far. Originally starting in his garage in Lansing, Iowa, he ran Chicago, Champaign, and Southern, a line beloved by his fellow enthusiasts and peers. This line eventually moved down to Rockford, IL during the last years of his life, and later he passed in 2016. His attention to detail was second to none, no stone left unturned, no dot of paint wasted, no grass without purpose. He custom built and painted his diesel and steam locomotives as well as his passenger cars and freight lines. The walls of his facility were adorned with murals of bright nature reminiscent of a mid-west US afternoon. The smell of the room was a dangerous enticement, as if 1000's of packs of Magic the Gathering cards were opened at once or as if a Barnes and Noble had burnt down. While the man was not my favorite person in the world in terms of temperament and egotism, he instilled in me a deep love for all things built by hand, crafted with the soul. The part of him that I love lives on forever in the art of the craft. Thanks for uploading your vids of all types of model trains and things, it really has brought back some deep feelings and memories.

I gave it up and went into comics in my late teens. This video has sparked up that interest again. Thanks and God bless you for sharing this incredible display of a deep love for a wonderful hobby.

As a kid who grew up in the '50s, Lionel was a major part of my life. But to see actual scale reproductions running on Lionel three-rail track is just awesome (as opposed to foreshortened trains obviously chasing their tails!). One can feel the love these folks have for this wondrous hobby. It would be interesting to know how planning took place on a layout this extensive. One really has to have the imagination of a city planner to even begin to conceive of the process. Pretty magical that you arrived during snowfall as model trains are such a part of traditional winter Holiday Seasons. Must, must, must see this in person! But, until that time, thank you for your well shot video with its extensive tour of each nook and cranny. Bravo!

This is an astounding achievement! This is my favorite type of layout, and you did an excellent job putting the video together to show everything. Going in, even when the dimensions were mentioned, I thought how is there enough that it needs a 45-minute video? But there were two amusement parks, a nature preserve, two baseball parks, and countless cool city scenes to discover. Plus, I have never seen that complicated of a working roundhouse. One of the carousels in one of the amusement parks is very beautiful. Yes, I watched the whole thing!

I live in Florence, Italy. By pure chance, I met a man and he's got a building that's more or less the size of half a football field with an incredible and elaborate model train set-up. Pure insanity. I was bold and asked how much he had invested in his toy. Now, this was a few years back and he hadn't finished his vision yet. At that time he had 2.5 million into his little project. Needless to say, he was very rich.
Thank you for a trip back in time! Each scene was like a piece of my memory come to life once again!

Thank you so much. You brought back memories from the 60’s where a close family friend had his place covered in tracks. The tracks went around most of the rooms except the kitchen and the bathroom. If there was a door, you could expect a train to cross that doorway. To enter or exit a room, you had to duck under the tracks. Of course, it wasn’t anything like this. Sadly he passed and I never saw the train sets again.

Thanks so much for watching and for your great childhood story! I think next time I go back I want to ask to see the control panel area and ask some questions about maintenance and see what it takes to keep a layout this huge going!
This is incredible the scale off it and attention to detail is amazing and thank you to you for sharing.
Awesome
This is an ultra incredible layout. So many details and unique features on one mega layout! I definitely plan to make a trip to see this in person in 2022. Great video and narration!

@@PghTrainFanatic definitely! You and your daughter both did a great job narrating the video.
The most enjoyable part for me was Dad and Daughter both giggling like little kids, treasured moments for you both, just as I have of going to Buhl Planetarium as a child with my Mum and Dad at Christmas to see the layout.❤❤

Thank you James! We honestly were just giggling in awe! I grew up going to the buhl also and then taking my daughter to the science center in more recent years s she grew up. It’s a Pittsburgh tradition for many! This place is only about 1 1/2 hr drive and totally worth it!
O..M..G..ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE TRAIN LAYOUT. VERY VERY VERY AWESOME. I am going to have to make a trip to see it.
I remember getting a train set for Christmas when I was a kid. Loved it!! Years later I made a friend who loved model trains even more than I do. He had this sweet layout with a few trains and a cool scene. This video brings back those memories and then some!!!!! Mezmorising!! 🙂😥

Bonkers Davvon! Lol
Thank you very much for sharing. I love trains and this has been an experience to be able to observe the miniatures like this. This is awesome. Thank you so much. Have a great safe rest of your day.🤠
An awesome job and great fun to see running. These people were really working on the railroad!
ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL layout and had me speechless for a bit! Had to really think of what I was going to say. The details included in this layout is beyond spectacular! It's so cool how there are different themes etc as you walk along. What can you say abt the amount of building's that fit every square inch of every theme. My favorite locomotive on this layout was the FIRST RESPONDERS CSXT train! I sit and think how much this would be valued at from start to finish and know the total would be mind blowing! Thanks for sharing this video and look fwd to seeing the next one.

You hit the mail on the head! When I first showed the layout that was after I had calmed down a bit. I walked in and didn’t know what to say 😂
This is amazing! When I was younger I went to the Novi Train Expo, here and MI and seen a Lego version of New York (still with the tower) and that has nothing on this! Wow! This is definitely on the list of trips of next year. Thank you!
What a extraordinary imagination to be able to do this. This is 1 of the coolest thing I've ever seen.
