Running Javelina 100 miles Ultra marathon

Спорт

Running Javelina 100 miles ultra marathon - aka Javelina Jundred - was a fantastic way to conclude this crazy season of running. After racing 11x 100 miles so far, coming back for a 4th time here was a welcomed change of pace, and it reminded me of why I love ultra running so much.
Curious about the trail running gear I use and recommend: check out this link

It’s the people. Yes, I know - that’s so cliché Simon! …Sure, whatever. But there’s a reason why cliché exist! The trail running community is one of the most positive I’ve ever seen, composed of fantastic people. Be it other runners, pacers, crew, volunteers, organizers - you’ll meet some of the best people. And it was great to meet so many of you all! It means the world to know that some of my movie are helpful/inspiring, …or at the very least, funny.
But even more special this weekend was to share the adventure with friends and loved ones. Four of us racing - all of us finishing! Mark and LeAnne -with whom I shared so many miles on course! And Nora crushing it in the 100k! Not to forget Brian who supported us all - a great runner himself (and a coach - check it out if you are curious on IG @passentiontherun.
Javelina itself is a unique race. I’ll be the first to say it - I’m more of a mountain guy, and I typically gravitate towards smaller races. But there is something unique about this one - such a big race that brings both the fastest runner racing for a golden ticket for Western States 100 miles , and the silliest of us, dressed up for a fun adventure in the desert. You get amazingly dedicated volunteer stations with themed costume. And as any of their races, Aravaipa does a great job at providing the best support for runner, while also fostering a good vibe all day long!
And although I did not have the opportunity to talk with them on the trail - I came across two of my ‘running idols’ out there in the sun - Jam Jam and Courtney. I’ll admit, I was a little Star Struck in both cases. Heck, Jam Jam even said “hey simon!” - I almost broke into a “We’re not worthy, We’re not worthy” a la Wayne’s World!
Anyhow - what a year! I’ll be posting some more this year - probably some “How to Ultra” videos, year recap, and goals for next year. Honestly super busy with work for the past few months - so we’ll see. I’m already nostalgic of last summer in Colorado
Next stop, HURT 100 miles ultra marathon in Hawaii - Jan 13!
I’ve had a couple of people sharing some footage too (thanks Brendan @senditbrendan and Carmen). And big thank you to Seth Grad for donating to support the channel!
As always, thanks for watching!

Hey Brendan! Just jumping in to say hi. I'm tossing around the idea of running a "casual" 50ish miles near Indian Summer/Devil's Backbone/Bobcat Ridge. Want to join? Simon, you're welcome to join too. Not sure when and may be snow dependent.

Great effort to all of you, and another fulfilling video! Thanks for the shout out. You've put so much time and care into crafting these entertaining, fun and informative videos, and I hope more folks lend support. Perhaps most of all, you don't take yourself too seriously. I'm stepping up to a longer distance race this weekend and this video will provide me a little extra fuel. Cheers, and looking fwd to your adventures next year!

Excellent Excellent video Simon 😃👍🏃‍♂️. Huge Congratulations on your finish…. !!! The fact that you showed so much of the course ( day / night ), was great ! Javelina Jundred 100 is my desire to do some day in the future. Still have my first 50k to do yet though…. Been plagued with ailments and surgeries 🙄🙄😖 that throw me off , and I have to heal before I can train again…. Frustrating ! But I’m determined ! Anyway, excited for you and your friends for completing the entire race……! And thank you for another great video 🙂👍

Thanks - I always try to show the course a lot because I know it can be really helpful when preparing for a race (particularly for mountain or technical ones like Ouray - then you know what to expect). Sorry to hear about issues - but love the attitude! Like you say, training for an ultra isn't a sprint - it takes dedication, perseverance and focus. It's never a straightforward process, but in the end, it's all worth it! Good luck :)

Thanks for spreading the word/love! Yeah, more how to coming for sure, especially with the down time from racing until Jan. But I've been and will continue to be unreasonably busy with work for a little bit. Still, that's high on my to do list! May not all have the nice "polish" on those, but the info will be well researched!
