My biggest mistake is buying multiple pairs of shoes or shoes I don't need just because they're on sale. I've probably got about 8 pairs I've never worn... x2 Adiós 6 £40, Liberate Nitro £40, React Infinity v1 £63, Adiós Pro v1 £30, Adiós Pro v2 £90, Zoom Fly Flyknit £73, Vaporfly Next 2 £101... Oh and an Adidas SL20 £45

Some of those are bargains to be fair though so as long as you get through them, all good. I had 4 total including 2 totally spare pairs of Alphaflys for a while having picked them up for between £140-£180. All 4 have since been used up though so all good in the long run. When I needed the 5th and had to pay full price I wished I’d bought even more!

What an inventive little topic you've created here, and I've a few gripes of my own about a certain Peg 39s which I thought would be great. It was an online blind buy bec the 37s were so good - eventually never ran much in them. Turned out after a year plus of ownership, after taking the insoles off, there was a metal piece of plate exactly where the heel would impact in the insides of the shoe!

I love my Soar Race Vest, which fits me perfectly and is the lightest top I own, and Oakley Flak 2.0 XL sunglasses, which hug my narrow face without shifting or rubbing. I guess everyone is built differently. The one item I've not returned despite its shortcomings are my Janji Trail Half Tights. Their many pockets readily accommodate hydration and fuel for two-hour runs, however, they chafe where it's nobody's business. Wearing comfortable briefs solves this problem, yet makes the tights too warm for summer, limiting their use to autumn and spring runs.

I think some things you have to admit were terrible for you, not necessarily terrible in general. For instance I did not get along with the Asics Trabuco trail shoes at all but I have a coworker that loves them. He is heavier than me and he loves running ultras. Im lighter and focus more on pace. Different people prefer different things I suppose. My biggest regret is keeping a pair of shoes that was slightly too small, worked well until I ran a half in them. Also socks from road runner sports, they fall apart so fast and they are hard to put on.

Probably running belts as I’ve bought a few that just end up in the drawer as they’re either uncomfortable or useless. The spebelt or something like that, just bounced up & down with my phone in it. Luckily I bought a flip belt which is great. Cheap headphones that don’t fit in your ears or break. Also my AirPod Pro not cheap that broke, well they work but have a rattle noise when I run. Got a pair of Sony wireless headphones now but the cable is annoying. Hydration packs, why can’t they make them longer for taller people? I bought a pair of the Nike Tempo Next (don’t know exact model) with the air pods which cut my heels up & split after 60 miles. Got a full refund tho. The first Adidas Ultraboost, lasted me two months before they had worn down. Imported them from US too as couldn’t get my size in the UK.

Nike zoom fly flyknit 3. Bought them when plated shoes were new on the market. Being an overpronator those tall and narrow shoes are incredibly unstable. Running 10k in them results in pain felt for days after. Another bad buy was Nike Terra Kiger 6. I already had one pair of Nike trail shoes and knew how slippery the outsole is when wet. A trail shoe without any traction whatsoever is outright hazardous. Buying another pair from the same brand, with outsole made of the same material is just… stupid. My mistake.

Banger of a video! Thanks for the heads up about Soar vests. Any idea if there's another brand that makes them out of a similar material/lightness? FlipBelt is my biggest regret. Not for the short runs, but when it starts getting longer or the summer heat picks up, they can become a sweaty, uncomfortable mess. Might try Naked bands next.
