My favorite thing about RTJ is they bring back the back and forth rapping of old school hip hop. It’s easy to just lay your verse down and leave the room but dudes actually working together to make great shit.

This beat is so insanely sick it sounds like something from 2005. I can't believe it's actually contemporary. Thank god people still make shit like this.

His verse on "The Whole World" still tops it for me.

Every bar on this track is insane, but Mike's flow... It is truly magnificent. This has to be one of the greatest hip-hop albums ever. So much energy, so many powerful lyrics. Incredible.

I took a trip on shrooms and my friend introduced me to RTJ. Ever since then, I’ve been hooked on RTJ. Coming from a classic rock/classic country type of music for years, this was music to my ears literally. These guys are extremely talented and I wish I could’ve gotten into them a lot earlier. Nonetheless, I’m here and it’s awesome.

I mean that's where I first heard it then again I could be wrong but I imagine most ppl who hear this they would reference DOC not The Sylvers just like most ppl would say Oh La La is from Dwyck & not sampled from Synthetic Substitution by Melvin Bliss (had to look that up) which I imagine is why G. Nice was on it. But again to make it clear you're absolutely right about the origins of the sample.

Poppy Kneegrow I am aware. The Cold Vein instrumental is my background music of choice while working from home these days. But, if you look at Hip Hop artists of their age they have remained far more relevant and productive than most and are connected to the current generation of listeners in ways that many artists cannot maintain across their career. The short point to my comment is that both their longevity and continued relevance as artists is inspiring.

I mean they're pretty big, I been into El-p's since 2001 and if you'd told me he'd blow up the way he has with this I wouldn't have believed it, not that he didn't deserve it but just that his music was too out there to. RTJ is a bit more accessible to a mainstream audience but I don't think he's compromised his sound. I went from seeing him perform to a small club to a crowd of about 100 in 2007 to seeing them play the main stage at Glastonbury to about 50,000.

On one hand, I agree. I’m always blown away that people don’t have more respect for them technically, musically, lyrically, politically. Then again, I’m happy that they haven’t completely blown up. Lastly, they’ve got pretty damn big since RTJ3 and are only continuing to rise. They deserve every bit of fame they get, I know they’ll give it back tenfold.
