You've literally never heard of Funcrusher Plus? Possibly the most important album in the history of what became underground hip hop?

El-P has always been an inspiration. Both as an artist and as a business model. He was rising as I really started getting into the indie scene. His "independent as fuck" slogan spoke right to my core, because he was doing things his way and being successful at it. Then as an artist, he's crafted a whole sonic universe. No one really sounds like him as a producer, or as a rapper. And watching him evolve from being ill in Company Flow (but letting dense lyrics get in the way of flow), to learning to be dense with much better timing..and seeing that same evolution with his beats after going solo. Even when my musical explorations took me away from hip hop for years, his releases would always be ones I come back to check for and always be impressed by.

But man I'm glad El-P gets His well deserved props, His lyricism is one of the illest and his production and entire catalog and history in the music industry it's to be respected

El p is one of the most important artist and rappers ever. Top 5 as a rapper and producer all time. He’s the reason you got experimental hip hop like atrocity exhibition, some rap songs, any mike album etc. he’s the reason many rappers like mr lif and more are put on the map. He’s deep and I say that with pride not someone you will go to for bangers or shit necessary. But you will be in a hell of a experience when you realise what he’s talking about and how it shows what society really is heading towards. Show this man the respect he deserves

I have to disagree to the leader of experimental hip hop like atrocity exhibition and other projects because many of his sounds n patterns are based from a bomb squad production. The person who put atrocity exhibition is paul white and those sounds for unique to his production. However el p is a pivotal artist in the underground for a certain section.

El-P always got respect. Rawkus was a MOVEMENT in the late 90's and his group Company Flow kicked that off. That was how a lot of people even first heard of Talib Kweli. Plus, his label Def Jux was one of the biggest indie hip hop labels in the 2000's. El-P is just appreciated by a different audience now ever since RTJ. ...but in the broader sense, yeah, I still think he's grossly underrated and under many's radar.

This was a very good convo. As an artist in a group from that era, I worked with a white rapper, Prozack and a black rapper, Marc Stretch. There was this thing also with the white producer. I made a song for Rasco, and he couldn't believe "Keithy" made that? PB Wolf was like, nah Keith makes dope beats. And that's how I got to do the song What It's All About with Rasco. At first, and even Rasco acknowledged it to me last year, he was like, "I didn't think you'd have any hot beats but I was wrong" 😂

I remember buying underground hip-hop magazines, their promo was as nice as the music at Def Jux. El-P is a legend, I'm glad he's still getting his shine. As dope as Sound bombing was, it takes brass to start your own movement, look back at your former management, and tell them you'd "rather be mouth-fucked by Nazis unconscious" than work with them again. That's a cold burn.
