I’m Iranian/Persian, Rumi’s or Molana’s poetry is about Sufism, mystic poetry about the love relationship between Man and God/Creator. Homayoun Shajarian is a well known singer in Persian traditional music industry and son of Maestro Mohammadreza Shajarian(RIP). Sohrab Pournazeri is behind the instrument that is called “Tanbour/Tanboor”, an instrument which mostly used in Persian Sufi music and dates back to ancient Mesopotamia and widely being used in the region with different variants but it shined in ancient Persian empires courts from 300BC to 700AD. Persian/Sufi music and overall Persian traditional music is about mysticism, trance and meditations and heavily influenced by Persian poetry like works of Rumi, Saadi Shirazi, Hafez Shirazi, Shams, Khayaam and many other poets of middle age Persia/Iran. Other well known Iranian singer in Sufi music structure is Shahram Nazeri.

Yes , English is not enough to make sense for the translation in Persian language, Farsi is the most complete language with more than words than all the languages in the world…
استاد همایون شجریان و زنده یاد پدرشون افتخار ما ایرانی ها هستند 🇮🇷🇮🇷🇮🇷🇮🇷
Persian poetry's so deep from the soul that translation into any language seems to lose that soul to a great extend. I feel so lucky & privileged that I am a native speaker.
Actually Farsi is the language of meditation. With all troubles going on in our country, still reminding myself that I had a chance to grow up with such a great language makes me to feel blessed.

@reza... So in your opinion, the mere fact of "... All troubles going on in our country, still .." in your perception is reason enough not to feel blessed. Juvenile reasoning doesn't even come close to describing either the "feeling of being ashamed" or "the feeling of being blessed". More like a lack of self respect, self confidence and being brain washed by the MSM would be more appropriate and to the point.

Rumi was born in 1207 and died in 1273 AD, and so these sacred words were gifted to humanity within the latter decades of Rumi's life.
Hi There. To answer your question, the lines were not from different years, but different poems. A "Ghazal" is a poem that is broken into pairs of lines that rhyme with each other. So these lines were taken from different poems and used as lyrics. And you are correct, the love they speak of in this song/poem is not love, but Love...as in "The One" or "The Source" from which (according to Sufism to which I very much subscribe) we are separated from, and the beautiful agony of separation is what we humans suffer from, until such time that we return to the Source. One beautiful analogy from Attar (a ancient Iranian Poet) is that they 'human consciousness' is like a droplet of water separated from the "Ocean". As a droplet you can not possibly comprehend the Ocean (which is why the religious right fears sufism) and after we breath our last, we return to the "One" so we/you/I will all be "Water" rather than a droplet separated from Love. May Peace be upon you and Love your guide.
I really really enjoyed your reaction. I watched a few youtubers reacting to Homayoun Shajarian performing Rumi's poetry , but many people fail to recognize that what Rumi meant with "beloved" is the love for God. Actually Rumi's poetry is designed to be ambiguous in that way. In my opinion that's what makes it so beautiful.
I was as speechless as you when watching this. I need to see this live! amazing.

The instrument calls " Tanbur " . Sohrab actually raised with it, because of his father Grand Maester "Keykhosrow Pournazeri" (Who brought this traditional instrument on stage.)
Well done...Beautiful set and Beautiful Poetic Song.
Professor Homayoun, you are the great professor of Iran right now and you will be
It is traditional Persian music on the poem of Rumi. As you mentioned it is not the love of man & woman. This poem is speak the scene which the Rumi in love of the main lover (mother of nature) and now he speak about the ways he passed to reach it. He broke any materialistic connection which band him to this world and then the journey began.
From all the reactions to this masterpiece, you were the only one who realized that it's a love poem. And not the kind of love between two persons. It's a divine love between the creator and the creature. 🙏🏼
The greatest thing about this performance is that its an improvise without any further training :))
Amazing , amazing👏👏👏👏👌👌👌
🙏 What I feel right now is simply beyond the scope of words to convey ♥️
The other two best performances of Homayoun are 1-Sanama (especially Live version) and 2-Chera rafti

Indeed Ustad Shajarian left this nugget after himself. I love Jaloluddin Balkhi (Rumi) and I love how Shajarian in this song expressed Balkhi's love to mighty God.
The musician of this song is Sohrab pour Nazeri
The numbers are not years. Those are the ordered number of the poems in Rumi's book of Shams. Rumi lived from 1207 to 1273. Isn't that amazing that his poetry is still understood perfectly by today's Persian speakers?! That's the magic of the Persian language, the language of love and poetry...
First of all, thanks for your reaction. It was pretty amazing And secondly, It is so interesting for me that you recognized how Deep This song is and yes You are right, our poems long ago In our ancient history They recognized the higher being, and they were worshippin him in this way They didn't try to make a religion or anything We have learned To close our eyes, Cut from the world and everything and pay our complete attention to him and nothing else
The song and melody literally take u back to 13 century
Thank you for such a nice and professional reaction. It was great. The music is out of this world. Just beautiful.
The name of instrument is tanbur. This instrument is a member of the tar family and has a mystical and epic sound. It is estimated that this instrument is 6,000 years old, but the oldest evidence dates back to 1500 BC in Iran land. In addition to Iran, this instrument is also seen in Armenia, Syria and Iraq, and has also influenced Egypt and Greek . Please make sure to mention that Rumi was a 13th-century poet and a Sufi born and raised in Balkh Persia (Modern-day Bakteria located in parts Afghanesta, Uzbakestan and Tajikestan which all were a part of country of Persia) and due to being subjected to persecution of Sufi's moved to the country Turkey. He was not a Turk neither was he an Arab. That would be the correct way to introduce him. His name was Molana and Turks call him Movlana. Your attention is much appreciated. Lily Lively

This men and father Muhammad shajarian legend folklore music of Iran and no body singing like this in the world. Listen father singing because teach the son
About the singer homayoun he is son of mohamareza shajarian which he was one of the best traditional music singers of iran his father passed few years ago and he has perfect songs as well before homayoun he was on 5 top classic singers he got banned because he protests to goverment and system so he didn't do activities but HOmayoun came up and start doing things that his father said he couldn't and wouln't dare to do because trational Persian music has known styles and homayoun start to break between them which most singers didn't dare to we also have shahram nazeri one of oldest masters that was next to mohamadreza shajarian nazeri family are famous in music sohrab here is related to the family an his brother also plays and their father too all of them are basically masters

Who’s playing that instrument named Sohrab Poornazeri. He’s a legend with great voice as well. The numbers of 1499 or 1497 are each pieces of the whole poem however broken into smaller pieces called Ghazal. Unfortunately the flavor of Farsi language cannot be found in other languages. We have so much idioms and cultural words that’s difficult to translate. Thank you for sharing it
