Ruina Imperii - End of an Empire - Sabaton History 088 [Official]

The death of Charles XII. followed the rapid decline of the Swedish Empire. The Swedish nation had suffered much in the last ten years of his reign. The constant state of war had brought famine and poverty and ruined the state in many ways. Charles XII. fought Sweden's numerous enemies in the vain hope of restoring the empire to its old glory. He was the King who most strongly believed that Sweden was destined for imperial greatness, no matter the cost. What can be said about his reign? How would history judge his character or his decisions as a King?

Record labels exist only to make money off music artists like Sabaton. So, when they were told the band broke apart, their immediate thought is that they can no longer make money from their work, and might even sustain reputational damage over releasing (what they deemed) a controversial album like this one. To then hear a guy like Pär tell them he's certain this will work in everyone's favor, if they just believe in him, must sound like absolute lunacy to them. Fortunately, he was able to convince the execs, and his prophecy turned out true: they've since become one of the most successful metal acts in the world. Hard to believe it could have ended right there and then, 9 years ago.

When Sabaton initially split up in 2012, I initially thought that it was only an April Fool's joke, until I found out that it was not a joke at all. I remember asking Daniel Myhr the reason for the breakup, and while he initially told me that it was something that he didn't want to talk about, I later learned that it was due to the touring schedule and conflict of interest. Like Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours" or the movie "Jaws", a trouble production and people overcoming those problems can make a work great. "Art through adversity", and all that.

I actually like how this song sounds with the Swedish lyrics the way the vocals and the music just blend together and mold perfectly even without being able to understand them I'll Still Rock that song and just Blair it on the car radio so everybody can hear it and watch me beat the crap out of my steering wheel to the beat

I do not speak Swedish, but after practicing the lyrics and studying a little bit of the language, I have 5 of the songs on the Carolus Rex album memorized. It was very special to hear Sabaton play Gott mit Uns in Swedish when they visited Los Angeles in 2018, although I did not know the Swedish lyrics at the time. I truly hope you guys continue to play a song or two in Swedish for your shows when you return to America. I think you may be surprised how many fans love hearing the songs sung in the band's mother tongue. There is a different set of emotions that it evokes in the listener if someone takes some time to learn the meaning of the Swedish lyrics, and it provides an entire new layer and depth to the album, since some of the songs have a different perspective on their given topic, depending on which language version it is.

I remember a while ago that I thought that the final album that was made with the og members was Coat of Arms and that Carolus Rex was made with the new members (which Chris, Robban and Thobbe), but I later learned that that wasn't the case. But the new thing I learned from this video was that the og members didn't even finish the whole album before they left. Now, I wonder: Which song was the song they finished before Rikard, Oskar, Mullback and Myhr left the band? I wonder if they even remember which song it was Edit: One more thing: Like the fabulous outfit, Indy.

Sorry, i really have to make a point here about something which many seem to see as fact. Actually, they didn't carry Karl XII over the mountains as said in the video and by many others. He was carried away from the death scene on a stretcher to safer grounds. His body was then transported in a simple chest on a wagon to Uddevalla where his body would be embalmed. Then, his body was transported from there by wagon to Stockholm. The painting of him being carried by soldiers is plain fantasy from Gustaf Cederström. Even parts of the uniforms are detailed wrong ;) // Carolean nerd and reenactor of the same era.

When Karl XII was killed at Fredriksten, Armfeldt abandoned the siege and retreated back to Sweden in what would become known as the Carolean Death March. While crossing the mountain, a blizzard hit the army. Almost the entire army was lost during this blizzard.

How can Nuclear blast even think your fans will leave at such a time? But I kinda get it - They had just signed up with you like one album ago, no? I remember you were super stressed explaining that to the fans, it was clear in the video, and the BG battalion going... "well shit..." But no one even thought about not listening to you anymore. I still have no idea what happened to Sabaton back then, and why they left. I hope they are doing okay and you guys are still friends. But if Sabaton ended then it would've been such a shame. You did well guys - you really did. All of you. You should be proud. I'm happy you continued and on top of that made one of the best KZread channels. People have a lot to learn from the way you listen to what your fans want without compromising your vision, from your marketing being so oddly cool and genuine, from the way you talk about/teach history, and from your perseverance. I am sure there were many behind-the-scenes problems, but after following you for 12 years, I know you can fight through it.
