Stepping up to the 10mm magnum, means significantly more recoil, so bullets jumping the crimp in a revolver is a real possibility. Since 10mm loading dies only put a taper crimp (because the cartridge headspaces on the case mouth) on the case, you don't get the extra bullet holding power of a good roll crimp. In a semi auto the danger is bullet set back, where the nose of the bullet impacts the front of the magazine, and gets pushed farther back into the case, raising pressures.

The yt original gunblast ( rip ) did a revolver conversion from 10mm to 10mm magnum. It was a version that used moon clips to hold them, but I don't remember all of the details. IIRC, the revolver that he used was offered for a short time in 44 mag, but it didn't really hold up so the last time I looked for one it was. 357 and 9mm now. Double check that information to be sure.

I picked up one of these 10mm/40sw blackhawks a few years ago. It sat on the LGS shelf awhile, and although I looked it over several times there was always something else I purchased over it. Anyways, my dad had got a 40sw gun and I thought what a great opportunity to justify the lonely blackhawk so we could shoot together. Since it's purchase - it is a go to favorite and has acquired a glock 20 to accompany it. The blackhawk really tames the 10mm. Is the 40 cylinder long enough for a 10mm magnum+bullets? If so, I'd think that I'd just get another cylinder made for it in 10mm mag...then you'd have the best of 3 worlds. I saw a tip on youtube....maybe from you ;) where people will carry a glock mag in 10mm, for easy reloading of the 10mm/40sw in the blackhawk...kind of like a glock speed strip. Sorry for such a long post...I really enjoy your videos. Stay safe, and please let us continue to live vicariously through your adventures.

I like 10mm, and I like revolvers, BUT... Is there an advantage to a 10mm revolver over a 10mm semi-auto? Do you suppose a Blackhawk chambered in 41 Remington Magnum could do well with 10mm and 40S&W cylinders fitted. The difference between their chambering is only 1/100 of an inch. That's not very much and I believe 10mm accuracy would be acceptable. Your thoughts?
@Icarryone
11 ай бұрын
That little bit of difference in bullet / bore diameter would cause the bullet to become unstable as soon as it left the barrel. Accuracy would be erratic at best. Not worth the expense or effort.
@Paladin1873 Жыл бұрын
I recently received a S&W Model 610 (NIB). I mistakenly thought it was built on the L frame like their rare Model 646 in 40 S&W. I don't plan to shoot it and will try to find it a new home instead. One thing is obvious; the massively thick steel cylinder walls should easily handle the heaviest 10mm loads. I've read of these cylinders being converted to 10 mm Magnum using a reamer, so I think S&W missed the boat by not originally offering them as triple caliber guns (40 S&W, 10mm, 10mm Magnum).
@Icarryone
Жыл бұрын
It appears that the Ruger Blackhawk is one of the few production revolvers on the market capable of handling the working pressures generated by the 10mm Magnum. I did read where a guy had his S&W 610 rechambered for it but the article never mentioned how well it worked out.
@Paladin1873
Жыл бұрын
@@Icarryone The 610 is an N frame revolver. These typically have 1.7" diameter cylinders vs. the Super Blackhawks 1.73" diameter cylinders. I couldn't find specs on the overall length of the 10mm Mag, but its case length is almost identical to the 357 Mag. It does appear to produce higher pressures than the 357, 41, and 44 Magnums, so it may be on the edge of safety. I wonder if anyone at S&W would know.
@Icarryone
Жыл бұрын
The actual case length is 1.255" (31.88mm) - and yes, its definitely a high intensity cartridge. Since there doesn't seem to be any SAAMI ratings that I can find, I suppose it would come under the heading of, "Wildcat Cartridges." Which means a slow work-up to establish safe working pressures is going to be required. Double Tap actually sells loaded 10mm Mag ammo - but they are not releasing the loading data they developed.

That little bit of difference in bullet / bore diameter would cause the bullet to become unstable as soon as it left the barrel. Accuracy would be erratic at best. Not worth the expense or effort.

It appears that the Ruger Blackhawk is one of the few production revolvers on the market capable of handling the working pressures generated by the 10mm Magnum. I did read where a guy had his S&W 610 rechambered for it but the article never mentioned how well it worked out.

@@Icarryone I already own several 41 Magnums, so I'm scratching my head trying to find a niche the 10mm Magnum can fill aside from novelty. Perhaps faster reloads with star clips?

@@Icarryone I'm trying to figure out what niche a 10mm Magnum could fill that isn't already covered better by my 41 Magnums, perhaps faster reloads if I use a star clip?
