Best one missed! Ian Clarke kicking a drop goal penalty for the Barbarians against the 1964 All Blacks. I was on the South Terrace where the penalty was awarded and we shouted to Ian to have a go. I'll never forget the smile he gave us as he turned away when it went over. It's on YT.

Wayne (Buck) Shelford was shit loads better, but Grant Fox had a bit of a cry to management after Shelford dropped him on his smart little arse, he said if they kept Shelford, he wouldn't play...politics, they had a big bring back Buck movement here after he got dropped from the All Blacks . . . that's meant to be a secret but some know the true story

@@donaldduck2139 I've heard the theory that they fell out. But I've also heard that Shelford was simply a bit long in the tooth by then and the All Black selectors wanted an 8 who could do more with the football. It's a case of the simplest explanation is probably the correct one.

That last one caught me off guard, what a goal

I remember watching that game when Zinzan Brooke kicked that drop goal which although I was only a kid is making me feel old now. But it has to go down as the best drop goal ever kicked by a forward. On top of that Lomu had been running riot in this game. England never really had a chance.

Forwards don’t traditionally kick at all, let alone for goal. It would be like a linebacker kicking a field goal in the NFL.
