A very important thing to consider in Mushoku Tensei are the episodes called "Turning Point", the first was the mana disaster and the second was the fight against Orsted. From these episodes things happen, they are always important events for the story. If you want to understand about the letter I will explain below. I think for anyone who's watched this far, it's pretty clear that Eris loves Rudeus, well, they're in love. After seeing Rudeus "dead" in front of her she felt very helpless since she can't do anything, since Rudeus even being younger than her managed to hurt Orsted somehow. As she was lost after the death of her parents and grandfather, she decided to go on a journey to "become worthy" of Rudeus, to become strong to fight alongside him and protect him, but before that she wanted to demonstrate to Rudeus how much she loved him, she wanted to make it happen somehow. Curiosity, remember that Eris couldn't read, write or calculate? Rudeus was her teacher, right? That's why her letter looks confusing, she still doesn't know how to write completely. Sorry for any English mistakes, I tried to do my best. Hugs from Brazil o/

well it's abit deeper than that on eris' end. The reason she had sex with Rudeos is that she wanted to make a family with him so that he'd never leave her again(first time by dying) because she was afraid that after their goal was completed he was gonna look for his mom. She was trying to make sure she wasn't gonna be left alone once they made it to fittoa. after she woke up she realizes how frail he was when they had sex and how useless she was back then as you said. So it's practically exactly like you said but she had abit of deeper inner turmoil than you detailed ^^

@@MimeeVideosI’ll tell you about Rudueses internal monologue during casting that spell. Rudues wanted to obliterate Orsted, in his desperation the only thing he wanted was to get Orsted out of his sight, he wanted something that would destroy him and a thought came to him. He imagined the destruction caused in Japan. He saw the nuclear bombs. Using that as a blueprint he turns his fire ball into a literal Nuke. If Orsted did not dissipate the attack it would’ve caused a explosion equal to a nuke. The rudues claims this spell to be one of the strongest he’s ever casted. The author confirmed that this spell was a high tier emperor class spell or a sub god tier spell. And yeah this spell was his inspiration for the other nuke he gifted Orsted later on.

The difference between E8 and this episode 22 is really clear. Back then everything they did felt so forced, cause of Rudeus thoughts, the pressure of the parents of Eris and this time both had an agreement about doing it with each other. It is much more natural and morally acceptable that way. That's the key difference and the thing the author was going for. E8 was supposed to feel uncomfortable and that was prob the word you searched for and this time it clearly wasn't. Rudeus and Eris changed since then and Character development is the strongest suit of this series period

One thing you should understand about this show is the sexualization of people in this show is connected with rudys pervertedness. The show is trying to physically show you rudys mindset of women and showing how he has grown throughout this series. Of course he is still a pervert but the reason why it seems like the show sexualizes less is because rudy as a character has become less of a pervert, they even convey that through rudys inner thoughs questioning if having sex with eris at her current state of mind would be considered taking advantage of her. Rudy at the beginning of the series would never question something like that and it shows how much rudy has grown from the beginning of the series. They sexualized minors not to promote pedos but to do the direct opposite of that, they show the disgusting nature of rudy and how he changes to a better person as he grows up. They even go further with this in season 2 but thats spoilers so see you then and also w reaction, bye ✌️

You guys should know that in medieval europe, you considered as grown up once you are getting baptized at 8 years old. At that age they usually choose either work as apprentice in worker guild or getting married. And this is almost happened in all story with fantasy setting. Even in Game of Throne.

I think you could say the way they portrait what happened in this episode in comparison to episode 8 reflects the perspective on how Rudeus approached this whole situation. Back in episode 8 he was desperate for any chance he had, but now he even had second thoughts and didn't want to take advantage of Eris. These are subtle changes that reflect how Rudeus' mentality is changing over time. Also, this is the first time EVER that Rudeus has cried, that's how hard it hit him to get abandoned by Eris.

Some things about the last episode: Eris left because she believed she was too weak for Rudeus. Rudeus immediately after fighting Orsted tried to learn the "disturb magic" Orsted used in order to be stronger. Eris feels as though Rudeus always protects her and she wants it to be the other way around. Rudeus hasn;t cried much during the series if at all, this was the first time he really cried out after Ruijerd left, and Eris left. He left his only family in Milis and he's now pretty much all alone, similar to how he was in his previous life.

I’m so glad about your reaction to episode 22! The important point is, they didn’t just go and say “Let’s make it less graphic this time”. That whole scene was meant to be vastly different from the previous similar scenes. It wasn’t meant to be perverted or erotic-centered. It was meant to show exactly what was happening between Rudy and Eris, to show their bond and relationship. That’s why the memories montage was there. But man, I’m so glad that you got it! And yeah… Rudy… ehh. That won’t be something that is easily brushed off.

I definitely agree that A LOT of the prev/creepy stuff in this anime does not have to be front and center. We as adults can easily come to our own conclusions on what happened. It made me feel super uncomfortable watching the first half of the anime. I'm happy they are pulling back on that type of content. Keep up the great work.

“I want to have your kittens meow” is a clear marriage proposal. The fact that her mom told her to say it to that special someone, that she found it embarrassing, and it sounds like a beast person speaking common tongue shows just how important that proposal was. But, then she got intimate and left with that really poorly worded letter. “We’re not a good match right now, I’m leaving.” It could mean Eris is not good enough for Rudy or Rudy is not good enough for Eris. Considering Rudy’s traumas and major abandonment issues, we know how he’s taking it, as a dear-john letter. Considering how Eris non-stop talks about how amazing Rudy is and how he’s better than her, it’s obvious she thinks she’s not good enough for him. But, Rudy always seems to not pick up on that, probably because he sees himself as worthless. Regardless of Eris’s intentions, she just messed up Rudy in a major way.

this isnt a big thing but part of the lore that will be touched on later so not really spoilers. there are two Laplaces, they were one person but were split into two, Technique God Laplace and Demon God Laplace. when Orsted referred to Rudeus being on par with Laplace, he was talking about Demon God Laplace, which has an insane amount of mana, its also why Kishirika Kishirisu (the demon that gave Rudeus his eye of foresight) asked what he was and why he was disgusting, she was using a demon eye and could see Rudeus insanely large mana pool. Technique God Laplace is considered the number 1 world power but as the Man-God stated Orsted could beat him in a fight but because of the curses place on Orsted, it limits his abilites quite a bit.

The reason for this scene in episode 22 between Rudeus and Eris feeling so different compared to the notorious scene in episode 8 is pretty intentional in my opinion. During episode 8, Rudeus was still focused on immediate gratification of his sexual desires. He did not care about Eris on an emotional level, he purely saw her of a way to finally lose his virginity. Her being a child in this situation or whether this was truely what Eris wanted in this situation never occured to him because he did not value her as a person. It is very much devoid of any of the emotional aspect that is essential to a healthy sex life. Because of that, the scene is shot very uncomfortably, with the camera only focusing on Eris' body (the camera is following Rudeus' gaze, so to speak). Episode 22 however takes place after a whole season of character development for Rudues. After traveling with Eris, often putting the needs and wishes of other characters before his own, Rudeus has learned to value her as more than a tool for sexual gratification. She truely has become a valued person to him, so the sex scene we get in this episode is practically devoid of any sexualized imagery (the most we get is some hand-holding and a kiss), focusing more on the emotional aspect of sex. This is achieved by focusing on the realtionship that was build over the last 13 or so episodes with flashbacks to key moments, only conveying the more vulgar part of it all through implication. This differentiation of sex as a physical and emotional act is sth. the author of MT has actually talked about in an interview before when he was asked about his depictions of sex and sexuality in the novels, so seeing the anime do try to convey this made me extremely happy. Glad you actually decided to give this anime another shot.

LaPlace was the leader of the demon army in that war 400 years ago, the one that cursed Ruijerd. He's been mentioned a few times in the earlier parts of the show. Much like episode 8, this episode caused a lot of people to drop the show apparently. Personally, I just found it heartbreakering, like you say, it definitely feels like Eris is making this choice and then is off to be a concubine. It made the scene feel so tragic. You guys mention that she's forcing Rudy, but any other day, she wouldn't have had to put any pressure on him. He even said he was worried that he was taking advantage of her emotional state. Something he would NOT have worried about at the start of the series.

5:53 After finding outavout Orsted and uis curses, really think about the power and love Eris put into that attack!! Rudy means everything to her, so she ivercame the feeling of certain death and unending void to try to defend him. 7:20 The thing is..Orsted saved everyone here by using that wyrm gate. Rudy basically shot a magic nuke. If it had been able to properly explode, that mountaintop would not even remain. Everyone ther, beside Orsted, likely, would have been vaporized. Wacky, no? Also, Orsted's curses are not as straightforward as you two might think, but you'll hear about them some day. 11:54 Rudy is not technically an apostle of Hitogami. I think one has to want to be to become one. Not sure anymore. Orsted just assumed he was one. 12:18 There's Gods, and then there's gods. All "godes" are not the same sort of creature as the others. The novel would have ecplained it back with Geese. "Something God" is an earned title. Like the magic and sword techniques have levels, like intermediate, saint, king, god, so do warriors and fighters and mages. Those "Gods" on the rock list are people who became so damned strong and are the best of the best at what they study/use, they are basically #1 on the global high score rankings. Hitogami(Man-God) is a diety, separate from the world, yet watching over it and dicking around with those who live there.

13:40 The anime studio royally screw this up. There was no ruins. The Mana Calamity erased everything, except the living beings it teleported. When they returned to the Fittora region it was a barren, naked wastland, if i recall right. I do not like them leaving all of that trash there, when if the house and such had been left, they would NOT have been so damaged and fallen down. It has only been about 2 and a half years, I think. 17:42 The studio, again, had to leave oit SO much from this scene. Eris's inner monologue, while they made love, was super personal and introspective. She is admiring how small Rudy's hands are, coming to realize that yeah, he is younger than her, and she kinda forced this onto him. It's a lot more than that, but, seeing this episode the first time, and not seeing her thoughts included, I was so forlorn. Her as a character, and us as viewers, deswrved that clarification during the act. To many, what Eris did is equal, if not more terrible, than it would have been for Rudy's to push her into sex at that moment. Of course he has wanted to see her naked and share bodies, but he was committed to honouring the promise, and Eris. Fulfilling that need would have done worlds for that boy, and what came after...is, in a way, unforgivable. But, she is kinda dumb, and she actually loves him more than anything in that whole fucking world, so we will overlook her sexual assault. 19:15 I don't remember the actual words, but the translation made her letter sound totally different. What she actually wrote COULD be interpreted....differently.

You'll understand that side of it a little bit better in the next episode😊 Also: Talking about what she was saying after watching the episode, I think it would be weirder if he was going after grown women, as a 12 year old boy. It's much more normal for him to be interested in girls his own age, especially since it's a reincarnation story- when reincarnated he's becoming more of this person, and less of who he was in his past life. Someone explained to me once that Eris leaving had a lot of nuance to it that the episode didn't go into for reasons (since they are trying to make sure we understand Rudy mental state for now). However, the short of it was that: 1) she had learned how powerless she was in the Orsted fight. Especially compared to how Rudy was able to injure him, but she was bodied with no effort. 2) when they embraced at night, she felt how his hands were smaller than hers. Which made her remeber that he was a few years younger, despite that, she couldn't even call herself his equal. 3) she genuinely saw a future together with him, but didn't want to be dependent on him. She left to train herself to be able to proudly stand side by side with him, instead of always being protected by him. 4) she was supposed to be learning reading and writing from Rudy. However, this kind of got interrupted by the teleportation event. So, that letter was her genuinely trying to string together what few words she knew how to write, in order to convey her feelings. The feeling that she loved him, but felt they were not a good match yet. So, she was off to train herself so that she could proudly claim that she was worthy of Rudy who she so admired.

One thing to note is that it took THAT long for Orsted to beat Ruijerd because Orsted was holding back. He had no beef with Ruijerd so he only wanted to knock him out. (In fact he needs Ruijerd to stay alive for multiple reasons) If Orsted wanted to kill Ruijerd, it would take him no time to do that.

In Episode 8 it was an translation mistake by the way, Rudeus actually just lied himself to Eris, and did not try to force himself in that way on her. Very sad for the anime adaptation though

A little detail I wanna point out as well that wasn't discussed is, notice how much this has hurt Rudy. He really loved Eris they even went as far as love can go, and for her to just up and leave him alone like this is sad. Especially considering Rudy's not a mentally stable person even with the trauma from his old life he's not mentally stable, and this doesn't help his case at all. Yeah though Orsted is an absolute beast I don't have much to say on him aside from that lol.

I agree with steph. I think that what might make the sexual scenes less disturbing or "uncomfortable" is the realization or should i say the awareness of the setting of the show. A 1000 years ago, people were getting married at 11 and 12 years old. It wasn't even an issue back then, it was the norm. And this is the same setting in mushoku tensei. So always reminding ourselves of that will make things easier to grasp. Even at this day and age, some countries have 16 as the age of consent. So ... yeah.

Keep in mind that for the most part, if someone is called something-god it usually just means they are the best in their field. For example, Sword God is someone who is the strongest user of the Sword God style swordsmanship. Same with Water God and North God. This also applies to magic users, so one can be proficient in God level Fire magic and be known as a Fire god level magician. Rudeus is known as a Water Saint due to being able to case The Saint Level water spell, Cumulonimbus.

I think MT is a great book since it brings up these morally grey discussions and debates where lines are pretty blurred in certain scenarios. The author and the animation studio deliberately use sex scenes in certain ways for a reason. Episode 8 was for a reason, it showed Rudy's mindset and his pov and it made the viewers uncomfortable, and this is different by comparison for a reason. Regardless it's completely ok to not like how episode 8 was portrayed. I did feel Eris did take advantage of Rudeus at this point in time.

Essentially, Eris' note is meant to be confusing because she's not great at writing or communication as a whole. She basically left on a journey to get stronger to become "worthy" of him. She places Rudy on a pedestal of admiration for his strength, and of course love for him. Making love was a way of showing her love for him before leaving. Unfortunately, her letter gave the wrong impression at the end of the day which will cause ripples down the line.

17:06 blud better chill before he makes me act out😩 But on a serious note this episode was messed up. In more reasons than one. Rudy clearly didn’t wanna do it and then after they do it, Eris straight up left this man. I know her intentions were good but she could’ve said more in the note she left. Now Rudy is all alone. Let’s see how this affects him mentally

17:20 that's a very good point that only a few reactors I've watched have noted. In Eris' eyes, she most likely thinks that she took advantage of him, seeing as he is 2 years younger that her and was reluctant. At the same time, in Rudy's eyes, he obviously feels like he took advantage of her for the reasons he gives right before hand. They both made a mistake that was caused by a complete lack of experience with relationships. As viewers, how you feel about this scene depends on how you view Rudy's unique existence as both a kid in body and adult in mind. Do you believe that his physical traits as a kid going through puberty that would naturally be attracted to others his age have a stronger pull in matters of relationships? Or do you think his mind which has many more years of experience, limited as those years were in the area of interpersonal relationships, should have more sway over how his actions should be judged? It's one of the reasons I love this show so much.

In real life everything you said is morally correct.. And probably saying "it's just anime" would be wrong. Because in modern times people have have already set standards to what is morally accepted. But like what you said.. Some countries have different standards .ages to be considered an adult or legal..and in the past these things didn't even existed or have not been solidified.. What I like about mushoku is that it makes the gears in your head moving.. Which not alot of anime can do. The story's setting is in a world where these things don't really apply. It really just depends on the viewer and how they want or how they see Rudeus actions.. whether they get turned off by it..get arroused just like him🤷.. some people can even just separate from what is real and not, wrong and right.. and just move on with the show. Anyways.. Almost caught up with your reactions, Looking forward to the next one!

I think the difference in episode 22 with the bed scene is that it had more maturity to it. Yes they're both young characters, but the reasoning behind the decision was consensual and had emotion. This was a big moment for both of these characters, and the scene was portrayed in a way that wasn't perverted or uncomfortable. Also when it comes to Rudeus's mental age, I think Oshi no Ko did a good job explaining this situation. Aqua talked about how his current self was separating from his past self because of his physical body. When he was a baby, he had trouble remembering things because physically he was a baby. When he was a teenager, he had hormones from puberty just like a regular teenager. Even if he was a former adult in a past life and still has those memories, his current self is shaped by his physical body.

World Building is amazing in this anime, but there's 1 more which is the character growth. Like you can see he was a massive pervert at first, but now he actually was hesitated and needed to get convinced first. Lol XD
