    This shows the character, charm and high energy of an Irish Setter perfectly. People who criticize their high energy aren't meant to own them. They aren't for everybody. My setter lived to be 14 and was obedient and well-trained but still often acted as happy and playful as this puppy even at 14. I'm here to tell you these dogs are a pleasure to own but not everyone can handle their high energy. They also need constant companionship and may run away if left alone too long. We used to find our runaway in neighbors' gangways visiting with other dogs if he was left alone too long. Setters will run if they feel lonely. We also would find our dog taking himself for walks down the same streets my Dad would walk him. He would always stop at intersections and sit until the cars passed before crossing, since that's what my Dad taught him to do.

    I remember having an Irish Setter as a kid. That dog was pumped up for no reason. The worst was when she drank water. And this gravy train dog food. Whenever we got a bag, she would go insane knowing it was coming. She'd kick her food bowl every night at 5 when she knew the gravy train was coming.

    I just read she has calmed down at age 3. My setters were”Middle Age” when they really became companions. I have a Red Setter now (rescue). Tomorrow is his birthday-and he is more mellow in the house, but still has a lot of energy especially when he’s outside playing.. I love these dogs. ❤️

    She reminds me of my Noreen, who was just as precocious yet grew into the best behaved. She would walk the sidewalk with me, then sit at the corner and stay until I called from down the block. She fetched Frisbees in the air and could scale an 8 foot fence.

    We didn't give brandy a bed or toy with stuffing until she was older and took care of it. They want to tear apart the filling as though it's a dead animal. We found rug type beds lasted until she wore them out. She is great indoors and much calmer when she gets to be inside with us. She's very well mannered and obedient and doesn't eat the chickens, thank goodness! Have fun!

    Not what I'd call hyper, as some do - she's just playful. Attention is on the humans, whereas a truly hyper dog is just racing around. She's certainly no more of a challenge than a Standard Poodle. I had people stop me when I was walking my black male, who was 75 or 80 lb, to comment on how regal he was. He was a huge handful until around age 3 or so. One man said "why don't you just get a saddle?", and another told me I looked like I was wrestling a pony. He lived to be 13/14, and was a truly great dog. It's just hard to find them here without genetic problems. I would love to get an Irish, and we're thinking about it.

She just was when I got her very grateful she was in a bad situation but I got her young as well but this one I got at 12 weeks and training her hAs been crazy.. but it just takes results and being clever. She is much much too clever. I had German Shepherd before her and I am like I forgot what training a dog like this is. But we will do it because I adore her.

    Silly sod! 😊 I SO want to stroke those lovely soft ears. From the look of it, she could do with a longer walk - as she isn't being tired out enough. I remember when we used to have Flat Coated Retrievers (which are a mixture of Labradors & Irish Setters) and my Dad would take them on a 5 mile walk each morning - and they managed _that_ it *eeeeasily!* Especially when they're young ☺

  • @sr8205

    @sr8205

    6 жыл бұрын

    If you still need an answer...this breed is very active and needs their regular walks off lead. That means 2-3 walks per day and access to a garden. You could have a Setter in an apartment, but only if you are certain to commit to a couple of big walks and a couple of short outings per day to run, socialize with other dogs and humans. It keeps any dog sane and well behaved (combined with kind training, reward based, no shouting). Irish Setters are very sensitive and gentle, but also naughty rascals with a great sense of humour. Be ready for a long puppyhood (read messy, muddy paws, naughty shennanigans) but an incredible dog if you teach it well. A calm owner with a firm voice when needed will be rewarded with the most incredible dog. Good luck!

    Lmao the butthurt "such a troll!!" comments. Bruh, if that dog eats that cloth, that dog might need an operation, no joke, dogs can die from eating socks and things like that. Do you want to pay for vet bill? That's how you get a vet bill. Don't give that shit like 'it just wants to play" man pups need training too, shit doesn't get better when it's 1, 2+ yrs old. We're talking about training that tells the dog, don't eat that poisonous/non edible thing, don't get in the dishwasher that has knives and glassware, don't burst out the door and slam into a car on the road. Seriously, this is the most critical stage in a pup's life. And what do people do? Most dogs are given to the shelter when the pups are like, a few months to a year old. And here we have "BUT IT WANTS TO HAVE FUN" Ok, a dog that gets into trouble is never fun, but alright your dog your property, w/e. let's forget how the bar is set so low for dog training around the world and how many people give up good dogs because they couldn't learn how to properly communicate and train their dog. I'm only saying this in regards to some of the comments below just dismissing the seriousness of why training a pup, no matter what genetics or energy level is important.

    This is animal cruelty. Between the sofa and the chair this dog will go crazy, and the unused energy is apparent. It would be a different dog if you had a back yard where he could run half of the day. Poor choice when it comes to what you can offer the dog.
