I just want to know where you get the information about this three cable and four cable which one is the correct to use? Who is saying that?
can you explain this for the 4070 aero?
I can't really agree with the 3 = 4 statement. If the extra PCIE cable would not make sense, they wouldn't have put it. But let's assume that you have a 850w PSU and you don't OC, so the 3 cables would suffice the purpose. I would still use the 4 cables adapter just for the sole purpose of distributing less power on each PCIE cable, therefore putting less stress on the adaptor and the 4 PCIE cables. If your GPU takes up 400W, wouldn't the wattage per PCIE cable be 100W with 4 cables instead of 133W with 3 cables? And if this assumption, which is more like a technical intuition is wrong, please correct me, because I'm in the position of using either the 2 PCIE to 16pin 12VHPWR cable that came with the PSU (Seasonic Prime TX 1600) or the 4 PCIE adaptor that came with the graphics card (rog strix oc 4090). Right now I opted for the Seasonic 2xPCIE cable, but the gpu does not go higher than 460w even when pushed with oc. This alone makes me wonder if I shouldn't have used the 4x adapter that came with the gpu instead. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for taking the time to respond to my video! So to respond to your first point, Msi at least (im not sure about the other aibs as I don't own their models, adapter wasnt a 4 pin, it was a 3 pin. To your 2nd point the plug is a smart plug which means it regulates how much power can pass through each cable, The atx 3.0 psus are designed to handle the full load via the new cables, and if your using the 4 pin adapter (with all 4 pluged in) its designed to take up to the max of 400 watts. As far as using the cable or the adapter, I use both, ( have a corsair adapter for my msi 4090, and I use 3 of the 4 pins on my founders in my other gaming pc) I can tell you the difference for me at least is only ascetic's, so its basically personal choice either or will work just fine. I also dont oc either of my 4090s, both are plugged into 850 watt psus. I hope this helps!

For ATX 3.0 PSU (16pin 12VHPWR port) would this be okay? If I get a 16 pin that matches the 4090s regardless; would this be optimal and safe to use on the psu that is atx 3.0
@kr00tman
Жыл бұрын
Atx 3.0 will come with a cable that will work with your 4090 and it will be raited to work safely with it. Just make sure you look up the reviews on the psu
ATX 3.0 only has added low power mode to allow better efficiency at idle, that's what the sense cables/pins are for. If you don't have ATX 3.0 it means nothing for performance, just that it will be using just a few more watts at idle. Feel free to use to two connector cable, just be aware that now you have to make sure every connection is secured Side note; if your PSU has multiple 12v rails and each pair of 8-pin connectors are on deferent rails you will need to make sure you plug in one 8-Pin from each rail to make sure you don't overload one rail. I saw that back in the day with extreme OC'ing on GPU's with two 8-pins. There's usually a chart on your PSU telling you The 3 plug and 4 plug are simply for redundancy from the added failure points by adding more connectors in general, that comes from the horses mouth Jonnyguru. The PCIe 5.0 power connector IS the same as two 8 pin connectors with redundancy taken out just to make the connector smaller, again.. Jonnyguru's words.. and the man designs PSU's for Corsair *could be the multiple 12v rail issue again, if you're forced to use 3+ connectors that will make sure at least one of the connectors is pulling power from the other rail But you're totally right, the only "failure" point isn't the actual cables or connectors, it's the bad design that allows a false sense of it being fully connected.
the adapter cable plugs into the PCIE ports in the PSU right?
Hey man I'm subscribed to your channel I get the Rtx 4090 (no OC) my PSU is the Asus Thor 850. So I only need to put 3 plugs right? I don't want to screw it because was so expensive.

You can just plug 3 in
IF your GPU comes with a 4 plug adapter, use the included adapter fully.. don't use one less plug and DO NOT DAISY CHAIN THE PSU CABLES.. You are introducing a variable that NVIDIA removed themselves in testing and the quad plug is included for when the GPU actually tries to pull UP TO 600W which can be done without manual overclocking. If it was meant to be used with less than what came in the box, it would have been included in the box that way.

@senbonzakura662 You're putting more power demand on your 12v PCIE rails. Unless you have a power supply that has a 12vhpr cable, OR are using a 16pin to two or three 8pin cable like the cablemod cable(the one that plugs directly into the pcie ports on the PSU, not with that janky 16pin to 4x8pin one that came with your card) you're risking shorting something out and bricking the card or the PSU, or the entire system. With modern GPU's, using those pigtail daisy chain cables is a massive risk. There is a reason why bigger creators don't do it and have either the cablemod cable that goes straight from the PSU to the GPU, or multiple, single 8pin pcie cables for the adapter.
@NyteStalker89
6 ай бұрын
@senbonzakura662 If your cables are a single 6+2 thats fine, the pigtail/daisy chain that is another 6+2 or an 8pin, shouldn't be used. You need a standalone 6+2 or 8pin PCIE cable for each port on that adapter cable, so if it has 4 pcie 8pin ports, you need 4 cables. If you don't have 4 pcie 8pin cables or 6+2pin cables or a mix of them, your PSU is old or underpower spec for a 4090.

@kr00tman I get that, it's just that MVIDIA support was adamant that it had to be wjth a 3 or 4 prong connection.
So it’s okay to use a split or pictail cable as long as you only use the main connector and not the connector that splits off of it?

That's up to you, at that point it comes down to the looks and also for what it's worth if you only plug 3 in you actually can't go above 450
Is it safe to plug 12 pin connector if power supply is around 1000w ? And one is having lets say 4080. I am confused. This is so messy, 1st with am5 mess of amd with slow boot with mobos, Intels insane high temp cpu and now NVedia wanted make sure they also stay in news for wrong reasons
What if i only have 2 8pin cables? Is it enough?
Oh wow, I ordered 3 Pin PSU RGB cables from Lian-Li? Will I be okay with those?

Just make sure they work with your psu and you should be good
That extra 1fps from the OC could be the difference between winning and losing. We all know that win% = fps/3 + no. of rgb fans

@@kr00tman you need to adjust your fan curve. It improves win % massively
I have the 4 plug cable. With the gigabyte RTX 4090. Does the 2 plug corsair cable allow you to overclock? Or no?

the 600 watt one, I go over that in the video :)
Why do most of these 4090 install videos--always leave out part about connecting to the power supply? I have a power supply with ONE PCIe slot. This slot needs to cover THREE to FOUR connectors from the video card. Is this process in PART 2 of the tutorial?

What psu do you have and yes there's another video
What happens if I plug it in like this 6:53, does it burn the graphics, or does it shut down, or can it be done but it is not advisable? I am going to buy a 4090, my psu is 850w but only has two 8 Pin cables (6+2) and both cables have that protrusion (not really what it is called) however, if I get to connect it like that will something bad happen?

Yes you will most likely melt the cable and cause a failure, you should buy a new psu

I've bought a rog strix 4090. I'm using a 1200w rog thor. It came with a 600w gpu cable 16pin on one end and 2 psu plugs on the other. Is that gonna work ok?

(This melting issue has been around for AWHILE I know it doesn't answer your question but more than likely if you bought it from amazon at this point they won't give you a cable that would potentially melt. BUT you can always ask the manufacturer. Sorry I don't know the answer) ;-;
Would you get a 4 prong adapter for 4080 and I rock a 1200 watt psu
