Thanks! I fly for a US airline and had a pretty brutal schedule for the last 6-7 months, commuting to reserve. Basically had to take a break. Actually watching some of my old videos to re-learn a few things.

I also just bought an ASUS TUF OC 4070ti ($1,088 CAD / $795 USD). My youngest son wanted to build a PC so I gave my 3070 to my oldest, and he gave his 3060ti to the youngest. The 4070ti was the only card that made sense. I play at 1440p, non-VR, and I too didn't want an overpriced, old-tech, heavily-mined-on, power-pig, hot-running used card. I can't believe what people are still paying for used cards when this is available. The TUF card runs ice cold with almost no fan noise, way overkill for the games I play at the moment (DCS, IL2, Sons of the Forest, Squad, Gates of Hell Ostfront, Gunner Heat PC, etc). The 3070 was doing fine at 1440p too. This one will last me 10 years or more. I have no plans for 4K, and neither does anyone else judging by the miniscule number of people with a 4K monitor. The only card truly capable of 4K in all instances is the 4090, and there's no way I'm spending double just to play video games...

@Shawn Murphy Way more than what I need. DCS World is the only game where it breaks a sweat (the card still doesn't go over 62C at 45% fan speed). My next buy is a higher refresh 1440p monitor (Gigabyte M32Q when it goes on sale for $339 CAD again). I currently have a 32" 75Hz LG.

Nice Video! Im currently playing on a 6900 XT from AMD, and we can actually use FSR (or well, Kinda) on every game, tho its not exactly FSR, we can use e.g. use 1440p ingame and the Driver will upscale it automatically. Its not game-implenented, its from the driver, so that pretty cool ^^ Enjoy your 4070TI!

What app are you using that shows you all of this information on the upper left? Thank you in advance. I purchased the 4070TI for a new build. I cannot seem to get it over 60-70 fps even with the new multithreading myself. Wondering if there is an issue. But really curious what that is you are using for the readouts.

Great video! I was thinking about the 4070. But now I'm starting to reconsider. Did you have to replace your mobo for the 4070 ti if you are working off a 2016 build? Thanks!

Thanks Gaffer for this review ! I have been on the fence for some time on when to upgrade from my old GTX 1080 which has served me well but is starting to fall behind the power curve a bit. I had upgraded pc components as you did at about the same time ( 2016 ) and was holding off on the graphic card due to cost. Along comes the 4070ti ( $799 ) release and I finally decided to go for this $799 edition. Your review here really helped seal the deal and clear my mind of whether this was a good or bad purchase. I reckon actually since I got this through Amazon prime with the Amazon credit card which gives back 5%, I actually will be getting it for @ $760 ( still a hunk of change but for me will be a huge upgrade in DCS and other flight sims ). Thanks again for this review !!!!

@@artvandelay8953 The Asus 4070 Ti I purchased has been working extremely well with my older cpu ( 11600K ). It was a good upgrade however as usual I bit the bullet a little too early and now the prices are about right ( whatever that means ). If I were you and going for the 4070 I would pay the extra for the 16 gb 4070 super.

idk why i have huge screen tearing while being locked at 60fps + vsync... its extremly annoying and destroy the experience :(

Video looks great 👍. I just got the Nvidia RTX4080 and it's not doing a whole lot better. 120s~140s with settings turned up and right now my MSAA set at x2

Thanks. Now that i've had some more time to play with it, Syria is definitely the most demanding map... PG and Caucuses seem to be running 110+ most of the time

Hi Guys, im looking at buying my first Pc for DCS, im looking at a 3XS 4070 gaming pc from Scan to go with my HP Reverb and thrust master warthog. Would that be a good syatem for vr and good fps?

Little tad bit of info: I have heard that games that have DLSS it is easy to mod them to have FSR however I don't know if it will work in DCS or is it possible in DCS I thought to just let everyone know about it. Also did the math and 5340x1440p and 4k are similar ish in the terms of pixels, with 7.7 and 8.2 million pixels respectively so it probably has comparative performance to what was shown here at 4k. I am personally waiting for the 4070 ti to lower in price or for the rx 7800 xt (if the price is reasonable).

Ive had too many graphics driver issues to with AMD graphics card. My computer would crash all the time on the newest ones. Just a warning

Thanks for the info. I feel like there are enough AMD users out there that FSR will get done eventually. More competition = better. I hope intel comes out with a higher end card to compete as well.

Fellow NE FL resident I see! I just ordered a 4070ti for under $700 on Amazon. Coming from a 1060 this should be amazing. Hoping it will be able to do VR as well. I’ve got a R9 x3D processor and 64gb of DDR5 to pair with the 4070ti

Very interesting, thank you. Do you have a step by step guide on how you upgrade you GPU? Old drivers? Remove old GPU, install new GPU, cable connection of PC to Monitor for installing new drivers for new GPU etc. etc??? Anything get upset? Anything needing reconfiguration?

I would uninstall your old graphics driver and install newest one available. It may be the same one but could cause problems. Just to be on the safe side

Really interesting! I was thinking about going AMD this time (also running a 2016 machine, 1070/6700k). Unfortunately AMD was kind of dissapointing and here in the EU they are incredibly hard to get and far above MSRP. Looking at either 4070ti or 4080 now, as DLSS was also mentioned for 2023 indeed. Do you think the 12GB Vram of the 4070ti will be enough to last for 4-5 years in DCS? My current setup is barely hanging on, lots of massive stutters in MP servers unfortunately

Hard to say what will happen in 4-5 years but if I had to guess, i'd say it should be fine. DCS progress is pretty slow and it looks like we are going to get some performance improvements in the next 1-2 years (Vulkan MT and DLSS). VR could be an issue though. I haven't gone down that rabbit hole yet!

@@FLYGaffer Thanks for your response! One of my dilemmas too, go for an amazing ultra wide monitor when I upgrade the PC or do I keep the monitor relatively budget and try out VR in a year or so.. Tough (and expensive) choices!

It's hard to beat the price though. It's cheaper than a 3080.

One of the sharpest and colourful best Videos I can find on YT. The Question is. How much of it is the Graphic card and how much the Monitor with its 5k resolution, how much the settings???? Or all together So it is not really clearly helpful. How would that look like in 2 K 3440 to 1440. ?? Can you throw that in? What kine of Monitor and System is it. And how would that look on other grapich cards like the rtx 3060 or an AMD card. Is that raytracing what makes a singnificant difference? I guess it has a lot to do with the Monitor

Nice! I decided to go with a 4070 Ti recently. It's not that I couldn't afford a 4080 ti or even a 4090 ti. I just wanted a GPU that wouldn't set my rig on fire lol

For Multi 32GB is a minimum. 64GB would be a better choice.

A lot of people are saying that the 4070TI is a horrible option with its cut down memory of 12GB and limited 192GB/s memory buss. The 3070 ti has a 256 GB/s buss. But they leave out that a 3070ti and 3080 are still going for the same price as the 4070ti. I just purchased an MSI version of the 4070ti. At 1440p 144hz I am not going to run into issues from the lack of memory bus. In the current market it seems like descent value if you are upgrading from an old card, like I am switching from a 2060. If you already have a 3070 or 3080 than it makes no sense to upgrade.

Very interesting video. I think your new card is being bottlenecked though with your I7 8700. I just recently upgraded my system and went from a 9700k to a I9 13900k. The difference was startling. I was using a 2080ti and was waiting to upgrade it after all of the 40 series cards were launched and prices stabilized. I run in 2k with your same settings and the difference the new I9 13900k made has me now comfortably thinking about whether I even need a new card. My FPS is much like yours which is why I don’t think you’re even getting everything out of that card right now.

gpu stats on the video never saw it hit 99 so from my perspective its not

Not hitting 99 means it is bottlenecked. The GPU should be at 98 -99 or it’s being held back by the CPU. Go look at other benchmarks where an I9 13900k is being used. DCS, MSFS, you will see the cards even up to 4090 at 98-99. My 2080ti gets those fps at 2k in DCS with same settings.

@@johnwicks4936 Are you watching the same video? His GPU is at 99% the entire time. Upgrading the CPU would be a huge waste of cash. Many very in-depth tests on the DCS forums proving this. I have a 5600X and get about the same as he does with my ASUS TUF 4070ti. Moving to a 5800X3D would be a waste of money at 1440p + unless you play with VR (and want a slideshow). DCS is a piece of dogsh!t optimization-wise, although MT looks to be changing that.

@@karlhungus545 I just grabbed a 4080 to go with my i9 13900k and with the new MT update I was cruising over populated Syria at about 3000 feet seeing 175 fps in 2k with everything cranked at 4x MSSA, view distances to max. The MT update is for real. I did the Tomcat torture mission and never dropped below 95 frames during the heavy explosions. I updated from a 9700k which was grossly holding me back in DCS. His 8700k is worse. If you look at the 9 minute mark flying into the carrier he was at 80%.

why? he's got 70% max cpu utilzation, with gpu at 99% - nice balanced setup

still 1080 ti is more the enough for this game in 2k ;) for ultra settings :) rocking till today with 32 gigs of ddr3 and 4790k with NVME inside :)
