black1888 Million cultures/religions? Pretty sure it's exactly 3. Hinduism, Jainism, and Buddhism. And the direction DOES matter. Because the one direction genuinely is ONLY related to the Nazis. No religion uses that same image. The 3 religions all use the "real" swastika which has all the points facing clockwise. (The Nazi flag had the symbol rotated 45 degrees, but that really is just for aesthetics and has no symbolic importance).

I swear, this is the thing i most look forward to every week, time to sit back and relax with a nice cold drink after a long day of work!

I like how quickly Gavin stopped. "We live in a world made of..." never finished.

Yesterday here in Colorado, it was a solid 75 degrees. Even sat outside for a while just chilling out. Today, next day, it's fucking FREEZING walking to school, and snowing like mad walking home. What is this shit Earth! :D

It took me like five seconds to find a chef hat on Amazon.

My mom found an article saying that 7 out of the past 10 cold winters here in Houston have led to a particularly rough hurricane season. Gotta love strange weather patterns.

Barbara's reaction at 1:16:53 to Burnie mentioning black widows in grapes is priceless.

The idea of Shrove Tuesday was to get rid of fat and butter in your house before lent, since you wouldn't eat those during lent. Pancakes are just a convenient way to do that haha.

Canada has been getting odd weather as well, not in a sense of snow. But the times of winter have seemed to have changed, starts later, ends later. And when it snows hasn't been constant either. Ice rain and other phenomenon.

I love how they talk about the weather changing like crazy in Austin, yet I live in Ontario, Canada and yesterday it was muddy and the snow was melting and today there's a freaking blizzard. 20 more cm of snow apparently.

That edit at the end stood out like a black widow in a bag of grapes.

"Let's fight the planet", I laughed so hard when i heard Burnie say that, immediatly thought of RvB season 9 and Sarge's plan to blow up the planet before it blows itself up, made my day.

Disappointed when I saw that SXSW chickened out and ended up putting "Rooster Teeth" on a piece of tape and covered the original title of their panel.

They weren't kidding about how the random pictures make parties look fun. Looking at the pictures on Twitter makes it look like they had a great time.

I can remember it started snowing in May but this happened when it was the nicest weather ever. It was super hot, yet it was snowing like crazy

I've been watching the podcast exactly since the first annual shrove Tuesday. Brings back memories :')

What's with the cut in the final minutes of the podcast. After Gus says they'll wrap up in about 12 minutes they start talking about some antivenoms not being produced anymore then it cuts to Gavin saying something like this is cool let's fight through it while there is thunder in the background and Gus says they're wrapping up. All that happens in about 2 minutes.

As someone who is also in 8th grade and is studying the same topic, that is completely wrong. America had nothing to do with Texas. American families moved to Texas and the mexicans were totally fine with it except for the fact that the "Texans" wanted to bring slaves with them. Mexico said no you can't have slaves here, the families didn't care so they took it over. They asked America for help but America wanted no part in it as they had just made an agreement to not take over the Texas area. Then after the "Texans" won, they were they're own country for a while. (I'm assuming the day they won is the Texan independence day). But then they started to fail as a country and begged America to let them in. America rejected twice because of the agreement they had made, but then finally gave in and let Texas become a state.

The Spaniards even made a distinction between the people with mixed Spanish and Native American descent. They called them "mestizos". Mestizos became Mexicans when Mexico earned its independence, essentially.

The way Burnie describes climate change makes it sound as if the planet is actively changing the climate in reaction to our presence and actions (like a body with a virus, disease, etc). That would indicate built in defense mechanisms that prevent harmful change, a lot like the plot of The Happening. Since the planet is not alive, and has no incentive to maintain a climate, those defenses are not necessary and don't exist. Saying that we need to fight the planet would assume there is an active opponent. The fact that the planet has a habitable climate at all is due to a series of variables aligning just right to produce one. Not because the planet needed a climate to exist. It's like a raft attached to floating barrels out at sea. That raft will exist with or without the barrels, but without them it exists in a way (underwater) that is not beneficial to people trying to ride the raft. He is right that we don't need to save the planet, the planet will last with or without a climate. We need to "save the climate from change that negatively impacts humans by reducing the change caused by humans." But saying we need to save the planet sounds better. There, done rambling.

I like Gus says that Shrove Tuesday is some crazy English holiday even through it's actually a holy day in the bible the same way that Ash Wednesday (the next day) is also a holy day in the bible. Also, many places in America mark Shrove Tuesday by cooking and eating pancakes so I think this a lack of knowledge on the part of Gus rather than this being "like a foreign thing". All joking aside, great podcast!

Them talking about Russia invading and building up their army, made me think I switched over to a modern episode

Thundersnow happens probably 2-4 times a year in New England (massachusetts). The fact that you guys are experiencing it that far south is very rare. It has been colder than average where i am also. -5 to 20 deg. F. every morning.

Limitation of spoilers is (in my opinion) REALLY easy.... Go look at what the FIRST release date of the movie is in the cinema (So 1st of march in the USA for example) and what the last release date of the DVD/Blueray version is (So uhmm 29th of June in ...India) till than it's a spoiler, if the dvd is out in every freaking country in which it's going to be release in it's not a spoiler anymore .... but thats only the way I look at it xD

Some people don't like going to theaters and just wait for the dvd/bluray so I would say three to six months after the dvd/bluray came out is sufficient opposed to immediately after their release.

Canada does not have a queen, it has a prime minister. The queen hasnt been in charge of laws since the 1800s and Canada gained its charter of rights in 1980s.

***** If somebody is interviewing you for a job and he sees that you have a swastika, his first thought would be that you're racist. Not "Oh, this person is so intelligent because he much know the deeper meaning of the swastika." and it'd probably make you not get hired. Deep meanings don't matter in real life, only what the majority will continually perceive. The cross was used to kill thousands of people, but now people wear it around their necks, not really caring or realizing just how horrible that would be if people knew about the cross but didn't know about Christianity. But, the majority see it as something good, and so people are fine with it.

I was exactly the same with the Red Wedding thing. My flatmates all watched it before me, and kept saying "Omg you'll love it. The Red Wedding when... nah you'll see." so every time there was MENTION of a wedding I was on edge

I wish I could be at SXSW this year. My most anticipated film of 2014 debuted there on Monday and I'm probably going to have to wait a long time to actually see it myself.

I can see that, but to me it sounds weird to say it as Lego for the plural (really weird personally, mainly because most plurals end in 's'). I don't think either are really wrong since neither are "actual" words, but it's like anything: you get use to hearing it one way and the other way (even the correct way) will sound odd.
