I could listen to an AEC ticking over all day. She's looking very smart even without a second coat of paint. It'll be great to see her when finished. 👍

Very interesting to see they are still running well as I was a senior engineering inspector over Chiswick and Aldernham overhaul works in the 70s and 80 s .

Brilliant Mike. Love the RT tickover. Fond memories of being taken to school on them in the 60's. I expect by now you will have sorted that little radiator leak.

I like how the engine bay is like a car's but scaled up. I am really appreciating the RT after being focused on the very popular RMs. I am really fascinated by it's vintage car like face combined with the big 10 stud truck and bus wheels that haven't changed much to this day.

Love watching your videos, I am living in Spain at the moment.Hopefully you still remember me. Simon Farnham Smith, Blue Triangle, Newhaven. I h very fond memories of working with you and our breakfasts in the cafe early Saturday mornings on the Piccadilly line rail replacements late 1990’s when my son Arthur was under five. He now has held his bus license for about five years now and will be 25 years old in 19 days time. Great to see looking so well, there always seem to b daffodils in your videos. Lovely buses the RT’s But remember always referring to the Routemasters when they were first phased in on the 137’s on Kings Avenue when they appeared in the distance approaching our school bus stop as the “funny bus” probably as you mentioned in your 4th Vídeo featuring “Mary KGU” smiling but lovely and warm when we climbed aboard. Happy memories. Again, glad to see you looking so well and relaxed. From Simon (disaster and district) Newhaven! Take care.

The RT is my favourite vehicle, let alone bus! Many drule over the latest Ferrari on Top Gear, the RT Is for me the most beautiful vehicle of all. The way the nearside wing sweeps up into the bodywork, the semi streamlined slope back to the front, and the dead straight back, with the elegant curve to the roof. As you say Mick they look proud, just what London need after the war. The RM had to look different but the RT was an impossible act to follow. RT2232 sounds as good as new with a lovely rhythmic tick over.. If you wanted the perfect vehicle for London's conditions 7 foot 6 wide is Ideal and the transmission was perfect too. Many thanks for posting your excellent videos . best wishes Dave.

RTs and STs, STLs and LTs, if a type, must be the radiators.

Thank you for these updates -quite fascinating and full of memories! I live in Folkestone and as children, my brother and I would spend a week or so each summer with relatives in Kensington. We travelled by train and used to see who could spot the first red London bus - it was usually as we passed Grove Park station where there was a bus stand after going under the bridge. I can remember once when we were travelling on the top deck and turned into Oxford Street - we had never seen so many buses! Since then I have collected RT and RTW models and book upon book of the history of London buses before and after the war. The RT for me remains the quintessential London bus. The design was elegant and, as you say, proud. It just looked right in every particular. So it is fascinating to see how your work is bringing one of these beautiful vehicles back to life! Incidentally, on Summer Sundays we would run from the church where we sang in the choir to look down on the Folkestone seafront coach park and see how many RTs had turned up on day trips! There were usually half a dozen or so from south London garages. Wonderful!!

Great Video - thanks for posting it ! Notice RMF1254 there too - around 1962 it had a two-week holiday in Thanet with East Kent so I travelled to school in Ramsgate on it as much as I could !

Used to spot at Uxbridge and Southall. Was only bout 11-12 when heard LT were selling them off. Still have their letter in reply for details - £100 per. Was too young, nowhere to accommodate, and my Dad said 'No'.

Your bus looks and sounds in great shape. I used to ride on Kingston and Norbiton RTs in the early seventies when I was working in Kingston and still enjoy riding on them when I have the chance. They have so much character compared to a modern bus.

They simply look and sound better than the washing machines they use now -even those sound better than modern buses.
