The ISTAT from Abbott is an excellent tool for performing bedside arterial blood gases. This handheld device can be used to measure multiple other analytes on the fly. It is a great addition to any code and/or rapid response team.

Thank you for the thorough instructions, I couldn't see the display however, your step-by-step approach brought sight to my blindness. Maybe in the future they will have a monitor with lights.

Hey, I was wondering if you can do a future video on running a capillary blood gas? What do to when there is barely any amount of blood, blood clot, and air bubbles in the sample.
What do you use to get capillary samples into the cartridge?

It's very easy. The cartridge only requires about 3 or 4 drops of blood.
Is there a way to print results? That would be nice. 🤔

Paper??? I thought we were 'paperless!' That's why we order two boxes of paper every month.

They also sell a wireless printer 🖨️ for this machine.
#jimmymckenna I LOVE THIS VIDEO!!!! My hospital uses i-stat but lab is the ones that draws and run the machine. I wanted to know how to use it, and now I could use it, if I were allowed to!!! I wish my little hospital would allow rt to do abg's, bcuz I am awesome at it, and I am signed off to draw, but rarely get the chance.

The instruction on the istat screen is BS. The screen specifically instructs to insert cartridge after scanning. Instruction after scanning should be : 1. Add sample 2. Close cartridge 3. Insert cartridge
