RS660 Ready to Ride. Getting the Aprilia ready for it's track debut. Bitubo and race bodywork

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The bike is back from having it's TT tank made so it's full steam ahead getting ready for the track. Dave is fitting some awesome Bitubo suspension, steering damper and bodywork to the mighty little Ape

    Top tip for making it easier to locate seat unit holes. Take three bolts, cut off the heads, and taper them to a point. Thread them into the seat base, position the seat in its final position on top. Lightly press down the seat to leave marks for holes on the underside of the seat. I use this process to mark aluminium brackets in a "blind" situation. You could also just cut the heads off without making a taper and put a dab of paint on them to transfer to the fibreglass if you were afraid of cracking it using aforementioned method

    @@obsession_engineering Love this bike you built, I just got one and building it now... about the marking blind parts as the gentleman Jimmy Cav expressed, I have done that with brand new fairings(OEM) and installed frame sliders with a clean 1mm clearance all the way around.. Good Job on your videos and i hope your racing is going good as well. Im 54 now and have too many bikes, too much gear etc.... and my race license in hand. I have a KTM 390 that wont pass tech because I used BST Carbon wheels, then the F3 800 had too much modifications for the class to be accepted, then I tried the new Supersport class, cant run BST wheels either. Now this RS 660 Star/Stripes,, almost done with it, had it since 2-17-23 and i just need to install the ohlins ttx30mm cartridges, Ohlins rear shock, Lightech R Series RearSets, IMA triple clamps, AF1 Race ECU. Austin Racing exhaust is on it already. I rode it 12 miles so far, i have scheduled to run it on track for the March 20th, 2023. Anything that sticks out in your mind that you didnt anticipate before your build?

    Why do you use Bitubo and not Maxton Dave? And did you consider modifying the air-box and using the underside of the fuel tank as the top of the air box for greater capacity air-box? It's a mod Aprilia guys use on the v-twins. Great channel btw 👍 Love the engineering and the racing.

    I'm a bitubo technical centre and I rate the product higher than all the previous options I've run, and that includes the yellow stuff, the red and black English stuff and the purple! We did consider looking at the airbox, but being as it's a pressurised airbox as standard we haven't yet gone down that route as it'd be easy to put a lot of hours in to make it worse

    you can just dremmel out the speed sensor hole in the fork leg. I dit at first more than one year ago when i've started racing the RS

  • @obsession_engineering

    @obsession_engineering

    I could but it seemed a bit unnecessary, changing the routing saves having to remove metal from the fork

    @@obsession_engineering changing the routing gonna expose the sensor wiring to damage in a crash event. Why be scared of just filing 2mm off from that hole?

    It is damn tight but I was able to feed the sensor through on my 2021. It takes a little patience but it does fit through if you angle it just right. No dremel mods necessary.
