RS 660 | EVAP Canister Removal | How To

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

How to remove the EVAP charcoal canister on the Aprilia RS 660. The same process applies to the Tuono 660.
Note: If you don’t have Gabros map installed you will need to purchase the kit from Jetprime that includes the bypass. If you remove the canister without Gabros map, you will get a check engine/error code.

    The biggest reason for removing it on the RSV4 and Tuono is to allow proper airflow through the radiator, because those bikes heat up super fast. Sounds like that isn't an issue for the 660s if it's located under the tank.

  • @ALFAVITAGA

    Its definitely a bigger must for the RSV4’s to help with heating issues. Although diluting the coolant also helps. But for the RS660 it really offers nothing other than making space in the engine and just removing an unnecessary part that could potentially clog. Unlikely, but I rather have it removed.

    Thanks for your video. At the beginning of it you mention in some cases a problem with the pressure in the gas tank and to solve it with a raised cap. Can you explain? I have noticed on my RS660 that after each ride I have a few drops of gasoline running out of the tank drain tube. As far as I know this is not normal

  • @ALFAVITAGA

    @ALFAVITAGA

    Жыл бұрын

    A few drops does not necessarily mean its a problem. Now if you have a lot of fuel leak, it could mean you may have an issue either with the stock gas cap not venting properly or an issue in the evap line or valve. I can’t diagnose the issue over a comment, but I would inspect the evap line for any bends to make sure the flow is not obstructed. Try also riding the bike without filling the tank to full. Just fill to 3/4 and see if you still have any drips. Usually a racing gas cap resolves the issue if the issue starts at the stock gas cap. But if the issue is the evap canister, line or valve then it will need to be serviced. I find it pointless to service the evap canister, so for that reason I prefer to remove it and add a racing gas cap.

    Hi, may I ask again what the meaning and purpose of this is? what does that bring in the end/ Street?

  • @ALFAVITAGA

    @ALFAVITAGA

    Жыл бұрын

    The EVAP canisters purpose is to recirculate gas fumes from the gas tank into the canister, to avoid fuel from evaporating into the atmosphere. Its required to meet emissions. In other words, its useless. Similar requirement as the catalytic converter, with the difference that by removing the catalytic converter you gain performance, whereas removing the EVAP canister offers nothing in performance. In general for someone that only rides on the street and doesn’t work on his bike, there is really no need to remove it. There is one reason why someone would remove it, and thats because sometimes it can clog and cause issues with the fuel evap. That can lead to the gas tank expanding. Since its a useless part and also something that could cause issues in the future, I want it removed. Plus it removes unnecessary weight and makes space at the engine having one less thing to remove when doing maintenance. My recommendation is this. If the bike is under warranty, then its best if the evap canister remains in place to avoid future warranty claim issues. If a map has been installed that would technically void the warranty, then it might as well be removed by preference.

    I’m not sure I fully understand your question. The EVAP canister is not connected to the PAIR system. When installing Gabros map, the PAIR system is disabled. But you can remove the PAIR assembly and install a block off plate, to make more space at the engine with less complexity and hoses in the way. Plus it drops some weight. • @ALFAVITAGA

    @ALFAVITAGA

    6 ай бұрын

    @@Ninja5Ever That would be such an easy solution, considering that the pair plate bolts will most definitely strip while removing them as they seize from the engine heat cycles. I believe that as long as the PAIR is disabled from the ECU, there should be no gas pressure applied to the plug and should survive. But then again I cannot confirm this with certainty.
