The world moves at a frenetic pace nowadays, small displacement bikes force you to slow down a little and they give people a chance to appreciate the beauty of a country road . I do believe that if one must spend a lot of time on major highways or traveling two up, then a larger bike would likely be a better choice. When my wife wants to go for a ride I take my roadster. Normally when I take the bike it’s to enjoy the back roads and explore on my own or in a small group. Even my KLX 300 will exceed 80 mph, more than fast enough for me on public highways. Keep up the great work, best of luck with the home search. My two cents, I would never buy a house without a garage unless I could rent garage space somewhere close by, just makes life difficult if you are a gear head like myself.

It’s the Himalayan 450 that I’m waiting for. Some specs have leaked out, and it said to have 39.4 hp and unbelievably, the same 1510 mm wheelbase as a Bonneville speed master.

One of the deciding factors for buying my house was that my motorcycle must fit through the front door if there was no garage. I'm sitting on my sofa looking at my Harley in the hallway, so you know how that worked out 😆. I lived on a Mediterranean island for 12 years and just moved back to the mainland. I know a lot of people have the retirement dream abroad and I'm totally sure you've researched it. However, please really look into what happens with legal issues that arise from absolutely anything. For example a death, property/building ownership, inheritance, neighbours, government because I guarantee that's when the dream turns to sh1t.

Another great review! Saving for Interstellar Green SM now, to keep my 2020 Himmy company in my garage. Please take the "burping" more seriously. Several digestive disorders, including "G.E.R.D." can negatively affect your overall quality of life, and aggravate other health issues. Retired Medic, (still riding at 66) and former Surgical Nurse, who nearly "bought it" at age 63, due to A-Fib, which is no longer present, since using a simple CPAP device at night. I test rode one a couple of days ago. Immediately got that sense of really high built quality. It just feels really good to sit on it and ride it. I immediately felt I could trust this bike to carry me around the country or even further, without any issues. It also is quite lively I must say, for only having 48HP. 6th gear overtaking from 120kmh to 160kmh with one twist of the trottle, absolutely effortless. The only point of critique I have are the high frequency vibrations, that start coming through the handlebars at around 100kmh. I think that could be a major issue on longer passages on the freeway. At least for me it was, I got numb hands way too soon. Other than that, I think this bike is really great value for the money.

I just demoed this bike, the meteor 350, and the Himalayan 411. The two biggest positives I took away from with the meteor 650 was the engine was smooth and linear power and for a person over 6ft. the forward foot controls were very comfortable. The 350 meteor was comfortable but the 650 I preferred. I was disappointed that R.E. didn’t have the new 450 Himalayan to demo but the 411 was just fine. I don’t know if it was the particular bike but the Himalayan had an exhaust rattle in first gear starting out but quickly went away as I accelerated. If I was thinking of getting a R.E. It would be the 650 Meteor. There are rumors of a 650 Scramble in the works so I’d really like to see that. Now, here’s the rub with bikes in this price point. The Dealers add on fees n such which makes buying a new one hard to swallow for me. Makes me want to wait till they start showing up in the used market.

If you like a bike jist go for it you will enjoy it regardless.

I'm really homing in on the Enfield. I looked at the Rebel, but mid controls and 6ft just seems a little too clunky, and the Vulcan S whilst I do like the look generally, it's a touch too modern for my tastes. I wanted something that's aesthetically a good compromise. The Super Meteor has the forward controls, looks good on a 6'2'' guy, and it has more of a classic styling. The only issue really is the seat is a 'little' high for my cruiser preference, but it looks really good on you and you have a couple of inches on me. Choosing bikes is rough. 😎

I really like my Classic 350 and it is great on the dirt roads where I live but somewhat anemic on the long wind ripping mountain grades..so I too am eagerly awaiting the Classic 650. Both of my Harleys take the paved roads easily but hate the dirt. Also, I get way more compliments on my Classic 350 than both of my HD's combined.

There are quite a few videos of people who have had trouble with the grease that has been applied to the relays. I didn't have any bother with mine but swapped them out as an upgrade and the amount of grease was bonkers. I'd definitely clean the relays and the terminals for them whether you're replacing them or not.

I have had my RE GT for over a year now and have about 10,000 miles, no problems but I think the issue you are having seems to happen because of too much electrical grease or something, I was thinking I would take preventative maintenance and change the relays before hand, Anyway good luck they are great bikes and some of the problems have sometimes have give the bikes character, I don't mind tinkering on bikes my self.

The SuperMeteor is the bike that can replace the now gone HD Sportster - especially the 883… Owning a 2004 1200 Custom, I tried the SuperMeteor at my local dealer and impressed! Love the wide range in the rpm band… 3 gear a bit over walking speed without any hacking and just open up the throttle and it moves…. It‘s very stable at high speeds better as my Sportster, but the cog is much higher as on the Sportster and compared it felt a bit top heavy - not that it was really bad as on a BMW K1200LT or a Honda PanEuropean 1300, but recognizable higher. Looking into my garage where the Sportster shares the place with my daily commuter a Honda PCX125 (don’town a car), I‘m thrown to trade my Sportster for the SuperMeteor or…. at a Classic/Bullet 350…😇 BTW - consider the Sportster if a used bike is suitable for you as your bike for Spain… It is a perfect canvas to build what ever you like from it ( hardcore chopper/bagger/dirtbike/cafe racer) everything is possible with a Sportster.

In Europe this may work. But in the US market, Super Meteor doesn't really stand a chance - it faces some of much more formidable opponents in the market. In the US, Super Meteor is about US$7600~9000 depending on options. It faces following competitions - Yamaha Bolt R Spec 942cc ($8600), Kawasaki Vulcan S 650cc($7500), Kawasaki Vulcan 900cc ($8500), Honda Rebel 500 ($6200), Honda Shadow Phantom 750 cc ($8000), Suzuki Boulevard C50 900cc ($8900 - but I've seen ones going at low $8k)....Moto Guzzi V7 is about $8500~9500 depending on models...Need I go on? In the UK and Europe, perhaps it is limited by the model restriction, but in the US market, we have so many good alternatives...plus, why would you pay same amount of money for RE when you can buy far "better...(I meant more proven)" bikes from Honda or Yamaha? Would you speciously buy Super Meteor over Yamaha Bolt R or Shadow for the same amount of money?

I agree... my biggest complaint about the Super Meteor is simply the fact that the gauges (or to use the British term..."clocks") don't look right to me. A big one on the left and a small one on the right spoils the looks. I just want the traditional gauges.... speedo on the left and tach on the right and they need to be the same size. Maybe there would be a way to at least get rid of that stupid little trip gauge and then reposition the speedo to the center.

I owned the 1997 Kawasaki Vulcan 1500 classic for a while. Now I have the Honda VTX 1300. The Vulcan was a better Interstate bike but the VTX is somewhat lighter and more manageable. I actually like it better. Nevertheless, I wish I could afford a second bike so that I could get a smaller, lighter more flickable ride. Sometimes big bulky bikes are sort of a downer. I think I would like the Royal Enfield 650 the most. Probably the super meteor.

Conclusion absolutely as expected. In terms of quality for the price, it's unbeatable if you want a mid-capacity cruiser. We test rode one and were very impressed. Only the harsh ride from the standard rear shocks spoiled it slightly. But by now, Hagon probably do a replacement pair for less than £300? Yes, of course It's made in India but there's no dishonesty about that. Quite a few "European" or "Japanese" bikes aren't actually made there these days.

Get a few miles on the clock and the rear suspension softens up plus the rear shocks are very adjustable, so just get the right setting for your weight. Had no problems with my suspension, what an awesome bike.

I do appreciate the movement to smaller bikes. . .BUT. . .my daughter has a 500 Honda Rebel, that I do love to ride, but when I get on my Bonnie T120, I feel like I can “putt putt” around just like her, but when I need to hit (American) highways, I can do that all day long. I traded in a K1600 BMW for my 1200 Bonnie, and the Bonnie feels like a toy (in a good way). I get the small bike movement, but I DON’T want to overplay it. I think a 350 is just too small, and a 650’s weight is so different from the 1200 as to make that determinative.

American here who just got a Speed Twin 900 over Labor Day weekend. I hear you, what it really comes down to is there are really two types of road riding here in the States. The one type is urban riding or riding country two lane highways. Your top speed is going to be 65 mph (typically 55 mph) and highway riding will be limited to a few miles and highways have lower speed limits in the urban areas. My Speed Twin 900 is great for urban riding and the country two lane highways. Then there's the interstate. As you know, people cruise at 80 mph to 90 mph on the interstate. My Speed Twin 900 is a naked bike and I'm sorry, 30 minutes at 80 mph and I feel beet up. 65 mph, I feel fine. 80 mph and I feel whooped! I've learned 30 minutes is all the longer I want to go - and I really don't want to go that long! So yeah, you want the big, heavy bike that can hold its ground when riding for any length of time on the interstate at those speeds. You'd prefer to have a windscreen, too. These little bikes, while a blast to ride, aren't going to cut it for that kind of riding. But, those big bruisers that can chew up the interstate all day at 90 mph are awful for commuting in heavy urban traffic. There's no one bike that does it all.

The small bikes movement makes a lot more sense in Europe than in the US as we have lots of back roads etc where smaller bikes can travel comfortably. For long distance travels on the highway I agree than larger bikes (8-900cc onwards) are better suited though

The small bike movement makes sense to me being about the ride, style and spirit of motorcycling. Over powered bikes have taken out many. I think in for city based riders in Australia they can fit the bill perfectly. Ego's here equating bigger is better is still a culture. Even if it doesn't make sense.

@@Cj-nu7nx Bigger is better is definitely the culture here in the states. There was a guy on Reddit a couple months ago telling a new rider they shouldn't consider anything smaller than a 1600! Sad thing is, he wasn't joking. I reminded him the first car I bought had a 1.4L (or 1400cc) engine!

RE makes some nice bikes but the RE Super Meteor, to me, is neither fish nor fowl, not modern looking yet not classic and sporting ugly parts, especially the pipes. I think the line would have been much better had they come out with a 650 Classic first then go to the Meteor or the Hunter. Alas I don't make plans for RE so I'll just have to sit and wait to see if a 650 Classic ever shows up.
