Royal Enfield Meteor 350 Review | Surprise, It Reminds Me of a Harley?? Yup!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I love this ‪@royalenfield‬ | @Royal Enfield North America Meteor 350 motorbike! It is really surprising and does so much. My definitive review. The thump and the style and road feel reminds me of a few bikes.
Thanks ‪@Baxtercycle‬ ‪@baxtercycle7981‬ for the awesome RE Meteor 350 Motorcycle!

Mine is now past 12,500kms (8,000miles) and I'm still loving it. The engine only frees up fully at around 5,000 miles, so you've a way to go. It's been totally fault-free to date. The bike benefits from the larger gearbox sprocket (one tooth more) by making it longer legged at highway speeds. I have also modified mine with the 'decat' conversion available from Hitchcock's in the UK and a high-performance air filter. The two mods improve breathing and are, I guess, worth an extra couple of hp at the top end. Both are easy to install. The exhaust note is now a bit deeper but still not at all noisy. Oh yes - I loved the scenery in the video!

Thanks for the kind words. It is good to know on the engine performance side of the house as well as the mods you did. As you said, I’ve got a few more miles to go lol.. I actually am now only approaching 300 miles and I’m going to attempt the first service myself.

I have a Meteor and a Hunter. Fasinating how 2 bikes build around the same platform are so totally different in every aspect. Some complain about the Meteor's sloppy gear change. There is an upgrade kit on eBay which replaces the shifter pivot for a precision item and a ball end linkage. The difference is transformational. Also, the rear shocks are a bit harsh and can really jar the back. Was looking to change them. A KZreadr tip advised original Hunter shocks. Totally solved the problem.. Lovely bike. Everyone talks about beginners but it's the perfect old timers bike.

I really appreciate the comments about the larger frame. Makes me think I might fit on one of these. I think it will be the classic for me. A bit heavier, but more my style.

I’m older than you. In the late 1980s and into the 1990s everyone thought the secret to success was to sell a Harley styled bike based on an existing platform. We saw Rebels, Viragos, Intruders and even some weird Italian bikes. The James Bond BMW was supposed to be a “cruiser” and it got almost every aspect of it wrong. The Honda Shadow American Classic Edition was so blatant that Harley sued Honda. They claimed that there was no valid engineering reason to make a Harley styled single crankpin V-Twin. The “signature sound” was the only reason Honda made it. Harley lost in court. There were some fine bikes built back then but my gut feeling was always “why are you copying Harley? Why not have your own style?” I think enough time has passed that punk kids like you don’t have that negative reaction to the “borrowing” of another company’s heritage. The cruiser style has been so played out that Honda Rebels don’t look at all American now. For Royal Enfield to reintroduce this style was a bold move on their part. I know it will be a success! Low seat, low price and low operating costs in a good looking package! What’s not to like?😊

Agree on much of what you say! I don’t think the RE Meteor is much of a Harley rip-off in style but your insight into the history of the Harley influence is spot on. To me, the similarities were more in frame size and bike feel to sportster. But it is much lighter.

New rider (50+) and a year into my own meteor (supernova brown) .. 100% agree with all yr observations here. Bonus for me was your location: I thought that park looked familiar. Been riding down there from Baltimore as a practice run, it’s a great ride.

So this should be a great first bike it seems for me. The price is very appealing for a brand new bike and it looks great and has enough power to cruise which is all I want. Im purely looking to learn and get my confidence in riding. I'm not new to manual and I've ridden dirtbikes so im not totally new but to motorcycles I am. I am a truck driver also. I am strongly considering this bike and I really appreciate your take on it and im pretty much sold on it. Im very excited about this bike now. I'm taking my motorcycle course in July to get my license btw and doing my research on my first bike.

This is a good first bike in my opinion as long as one is not super short in stature. Even so, it just takes a little getting used to. It has to do with the large frame.

@@MCCJustMotos My very first bike was a 1990 Yamaha Virago 1100 in 1990 and had someone here in San Diego make some forward controls for it and it was great. I asked if he would consider doing the same for the Meteor but I think he is just two old and too busy now. I actually prefer forward controls on cruisers.

Great video. love the look of the Royal Enfield bike's I'm very much so thinking of getting either a meteor or a classic probably the classic but if I was to get the meteor I would have to change that heal toe shifter to a Tec aftermarket one but I really do love them bikes for sure. :)

Beautiful where you live! A great back roads bike. Out here in California it is unavoidable to have to get on the highways from time to time. For that reason and the belt drive, I went with a Suzuki S40 which is also a thumper.

@@MCCJustMotos I am in the far end of Northern California in a town called Redding. We are surrounded on 3 sides by mountains with great secondary road rides just minutes away. I came from North Carolina and really miss the greenery and bi-ways with so much beauty. The S40 gets pretty strong vibes at higher speeds but it pulls up to 70 easily. 60-65 mph is smooth enough to tour on. When I have to ride on the highway, I get in the right lane and cruise along with the trucks. I have a Suzuki dealer in my town which helps for maintenance parts and it is over 2 hours to get to the closest RE dealer in Sacramento. That also played into my decision but what won out was the Suzuki's belt drive system. I just hate chain maintenance!

Went from a Kawasaki 900 to the 350 classic reborn Why? Modern bikes are exciting due to their high performance and tech.. But my goodness they are totally souless and have zero character . I longed to get back to when bikes looked like bikes not nondescript plastic cover blobs Or are just plain oversized and clumsy around town and down the back doubles. Highways on the 350? no, its not a bike for that but personally I hate highways anyway. Easiest roads to make riding bikes actually boring, miles of nothing to do. Small capacity certainly does not mean boring with the 350. Fun on every ride even if you just are going to get some shopping.

I live in São Paulo/Brazil and here you can't buy a big trail or a harley because of its overpriced to buy and maintain. Plus here have been a lot robbery these days and very risk to ride a "premium" bike. I've just bought a stellar black meteor, it's brand new 20 miles piece of steel, was cheap comparing to the others and doesn't call bad attention from thieves. I pretend to make some travels on the highway with it riding around 100 and 110km/h. (We use kilometers here) Anyway, i agree with you, a smooth stylish bike to go for work and ride out on the weekends apreciating the view and life. Good winds to you!
