Royal Enfield Hunter 350 First Ride Review | The obvious choice for young riders?

Royal Enfield isn’t the first name that comes to mind when you think of beginner motorcycles. The Hunter 350 is looking to change that.

I am on to my 3rd RE. 15 years ago one did not have too much of a choice. Today it's a buyers market. The cost of ownership is very high as RE requires a lost of maintenance due to substandard components. I bought by last bike for Rs 2.06 lacs. I've spent Rs 2.4 lacs on maintenance and servicing the bike in 5 years. My bike is serviced by RE service centre and never seen an outside mechanic. RE cant compete on quality and performance. And cost of ownership.

While I agree about your observations, I feel Hunter has more value proposition and will garner more sales and would have higher resale value than Ronin which is susceptible to early obscelence and scarcity of spares in the long run. Totally agree with kartikeyas point that this should have been a lower CC (250 cc) with increased power. It would have upped the fuel economy which is paltry for the hunter. RE is not ready to do anything new. Using the same engine for three bikes is unacceptable.

A good motorcycle can do city to interstate to intercontinental, it can handle paved roads, gravel and light off road, it's durable and has great mileage, it's stable and agile at slower and higher speeds this is so you as an owner have a choice of how YOU can use your motorcycle. If you are to listen to RE's classification for The Hunter 350 it tells you that this motorcycle does not meet the versatile criterias that a good motorcycle needs but every other RE motorcycle does, this is something you should think hard about before you get the Hunter 350.

If the body parts are not plastic, the price may be expensive. The engine is still the same as the Classic 350 and Meteor 350. That's why the Hunter 350 is very light when controlling, with the sportrim 17 being low enough front and rear, it's easy to handle whether on the road or off road. For 17 size tires you can use Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR very suitable for hot and rainy weather or even off road. 🤞🏻🏍🏔

I am on to my third RE. What is modern about the Hunter? Certainly not the engineering and performance; nor the features and components. Just about every 150cc on the market today has better specs, ride and handling, build quality .And if you compare apple with apple - the Honda CB350 RS is head and shoulders above what RE has to offer. News percolating out of Bangkok is that the suspension is 'rudimentary' at best, the engine characteristics is 'typical' RE and to keep costs to a minimum it comes with compromises eg. no main stand, no LED lights (standard on all modern bikes today) etc. Yes RE sell cheap bikes. But most importantly the cost of ownership is another matter altogether!

If i was in place of RE , would rather asked to developed square or over-square engine instead of long stroke. Apart from heritage it has nothing to serves, cons outweighs pros. power, refinement, weight everything gets compromised heavily.

Could you guys try to make a detailed comparison between the Hunter, the MT-15 v2 2023 and the Ronin? Try to do something like a Friday workday and a weekend outing to get a better outcome for a clear verdict. Honestly I'm really confused because all 3 of these bikes are very similarly priced with unique USPs and shortcomings.

Got to confess the Hunter did nothing to stir my soul. I was disappointed. I guess if one is upgrading from a 150cc it may appeal to that segment. Ive been riding RE from 1982....and now have the 500cc. The pick of the RE's in my opinions is the Classic. I wish that they had not discontinued the 500. I like the classic paint job as well and the chrome (just wish it was better quality and not prone to rusting) and the neutral riding ergonomics.

In September RE bumped up the price of their bikes here. I feel they made a mistake. £4k for the base fireball meteor? The competition has a lot more tech on the bikes and they go quicker. RE had the nice retro looks and the price going for it but slowly the price aspect is disappearing. The price of the meteor now has totally made me look at the competition.

I don't think this bike needs more power. If Royal Enfield designed it with more power it would need to be liquid-cooled & have an over-square bore & stroke. It would cost more, have less low-end torque & rev higher on the road. Bikes like that already exists. Honda CB300, Yamaha MT-03, Kawasaki Z400, KTM 390, etc. All more expensive. Royal Enfield knows what it's doing.

Looks good but ronin sounds better. This sounds like a tractor. For this amount of money one has better options which are more useful, adjustable and teach you too if you are a starter. The thing is for every RE bike there is quite buzz cuz of no of fanbois but it's cons outweigh the pros.

I hope RE doesn't die following the steps of harley. They can keep the classic & the bullet's but they need to move on from the 350 engine for modern bikes or at least add optional new engine higher compression better revving new 250-400cc beast to the same models to rival everyone else. Imagine this bike price 20-25k higher but with a 35-40hp twin cylinder or same power from a rev happy 250cc at similar price.
