A cracking little bike, and a great real world review, and as you quite righty pointed out, makes a lot of sense, I have just come back from a 8 week 4400 mile tour around Portugal, Spain and France on my Himalayan, travelling mainly the lesser travelled roads, and the bike performed magnificently, a great travelling companion, BTW, it returned 85 mpg average for the trip

I bought the Himalayan a couple years back and found it to be very capable outside of riding American interstates where the general population travels at 75 to 85 mph. This bike does well at 55 all day long without ringing its neck. Traded it for RE interceptor 650 and found that one to keep up when necessary though I still prefer county roads and farm to market roads

I've just bought a 2022 Himalayan so your review was brilliant and a little light off-road riding would have been the icing on the cake. I have two road bikes and wanted something different and a thumper rocks my boat. A great review. Thanks.

I bought a 21 plate Euro5 Himmy back in August of this year. Prior to that I had a 12 plate 650 V Strom which I'd owned for seven years . The Himmy is a cracking little bike . The engine is a "peach" . I've put almost 4000 miles on her and i've had a " smile " for every mile , be it on off road , or on tarmac . On Motorways she will sit at 65-70 all day , no problem . Living up here in Cumbria , it's the perfect bike , I've found . It definitely works for me . Cheap to run , easy to maintain ....Brilliant 🙂👍

Another enjoyable video Dave, thanks very much. I imagine there will be a lot of these coming onto the market, as the 450 makes its appearance. Interesting to note that the new model is all-new and not just a facelift. Upside down 43mm forks, 39 HP up from 24HP, larger discs, front and rear, adjustable seat height, 3kg lighter, water-cooled engine, larger fuel tank, to name but a few. The only things common to both bikes, seems to be the name. I will be looking for one of the old ones, as a winter hack. Can`t wait to see your review of the new one. Ride safe and watch out for the tw**s.

They're a great bike ,ideal for British weather, I've not ridden one but see plenty of them on rallies, the owners like the ride'em use'em and wash 'em characteristics of the bike . Same with my Gunmetal classic 350 , it gets washed a coat of Mucoff protectant on it and ready for the next ride , no polishing to do . I am however looking forward to a test ride on the 450 Himalayan! Have a good weekend Dave, Cheers 🍻

A very good summary of these very capable motorcycles. I bought one two years ago to use through the winter months, saving my main bike the ravages of winter and have ended up doing far more miles on it than I anticipated. The bike lends itself to modifications so it can be tailored for our own requirements, like VFR mItch I have had the seat redone and fitted handlebar risers and much more. These are my personal favourite Royal Enfields and I'm very interested in the new 450 version but won't be selling mine for a long while. It looks like there will be a race between you and Mr Fillingham as to who adds the Goldstar to their collection first😂😂😂😂😂.

Interesting comparison. I find the Himalayan more comfortable than the scram also. I like the whole instrument console and front bars for small bags to be essential for a "Charlie" first aid kit and fluorescent vest, whistle, and compass. Navigator stops if signal is lost. Most individuals use their phone. My windshield is taller but blocks the wind at my chest. Does not block vision. At 72 MPG's and under $100.00 a year to insure...win-win. Your scram looks great set up like you have it.

Enjoyable musings from the Yorkshire Wheeler. And a blast of nostalgia for a UK expat in the US. Noralee aka Itchy Boots seems to be enjoying the extra bit of oomph with the 60% increase in power, to provide that extra usability, without harming off roading capability. Personally I prefer the more angular look of the 411- can't please all the people, all of the time.

I traded my 2020 Himalayan in for the Hunter, for me personally I just couldn’t get on with the 21” front and found it much better when I fitted the road rubber. It really is a do it all bike. Don't be, Dave; it's not nice riding in high temperatures. Last year I collected a new bike for my daughter and rode the 100 km home up the freeway in 42C sunshine. Fortunately, I'd taken the precaution of having a frozen ice-brick inside my jacket and made a quick roadside stop to drink from a water bottle. Dehyration's a real issue in those temperatures.

You don't have to give up riding bike in winter when their is ice and snow on the ground in UK, you can legally put studs on bike wheels if their is snow and ice on ground...people are confused with law, yet law states you can if their is ice or snow on ground on UK roads...if temp was above zero then clearly take studs off.....winter bike tyres except screw in studs... Keep riding even with snow and ice it's okay for UK guys..

Driving standards are definitely getting worse, I had two near misses last week. Both were caused by cars pulling out of side roads. In both cases there was a car following me about 50 yards behind. The guilty driver must have been focusing on the car instead of seeing me approaching. Despite having my headlight on, white helmet, light coloured jacket, they failed to see me. In the fist case, I managed to stop, in the second, I managed to do a counter steer swerve behind the white van. It’s made me think seriously about giving up biking.

Can't believe how close thar idiot driver got to you on the bend. In my experience the professional HGV drivers give you plenty of space and consideration so why can't someone driving an Astral or whatever it was? The "Think Bike" campaign seems to be dead in the water these days and yet motorcyclists, cyclists and horse riders continue to be terrorised. Rant over, ride safe, Stephen.

Why do they insist on a tubed tyre for an off road machine 🤔

Because tubeless tyres are basically rubbish offroad, rip a tyre and you are walking. Also it's difficult to run rimlocks in tubeless.

Most of these bikes in the UK do most of their miles on the road. You can't beat tubeless for safety and ease of side of the road puncture repair. Cars have been using tubeless for decades.😅

@@kevindarkstar The main problem even if the tyre is repairable with a plug is if it came off the bead seat it's virtually impossible to get the tyre to jump the inner bead and reseal. Without a bucket of tyre soap and an air bomb or a big compressor it's a real problem. My trials bike runs tubeless rear as they usually do, to reseat in the workshop I use a lot of soap AND a Michelin seating mousse which is made to seal the tyre to start and gets squeezed out on inflation. They still haven't managed to get trials bike tubeless front tyres to work which says a lot. The guys with big adventure bikes like GS's get problems with the tubeless systems from hitting rocks hard and blowing the bead off it's seat, all the guys I ride with run tubes in them. Offroad 4WD drivers use beadlocks and tubes when things get tough. A machine designed for Indian backroads, tubes all the way.

Nice but I'll be spending £600 more on the Triumph Scrambler 400. IMO much better value.

@@thebingleywheeler the RE yes, like I said nice bike. The Triumph doesn't come out until Jan 24, I'll get a test ride. But l can see what you're getting for your money. Better build quality, longer service intervals, tubeless tyres, lighter weight and 40 hp.😊
