Another great Sunday lunchtime with a coffee listening to your honest, dry humour, Dave. Excellent. Agree with you entirely regarding the cost of the new GS1300. That's a ridiculous amount of money. Still, there'll be those with deep enough pockets who'll fork out for one. As someone's already said, the type who'll get all the gear but venture no further than Tesco's and keep it immaculate. Don't get me wrong, there are those like TP1, who will get their money's worth from such bikes. They're proper owners. Can't help but feel they are in the minority, though. Great post as always.👍

Thank you Mark and yes for many well off “bikers” the new GS will be no more than a fashion statement or an overt display of their buying power. Meanwhile here on planet earth we will continue to enjoy the freedom of motorcycling on anything with two wheels and an engine

Thanks for that. Watched it on a very miserable day. I was at Squires earlier this week when a guy came in on a new demo GS 1300. He was impressed with the ride on it but to me it looked uninspiring, much smaller than the previous models and appeared closer to a sports tourer than an adventure. Much less imposing than my Crosstourer though I dare say if I rode it my opinion might well change. Talking of change - not much from 20 grand to buy or even 30 with all the bells and whistles!! Mind blowing.

What a fabulous sunny day yesterday. Perfect for a ride out. Alas I was on a long day shift so the Hayabusa sat dormant in my garage. 10 days of rain incoming now ffs. Looking at adding a third bike (I've also got a 1991 Kawasaki Voyager xii) and fancy a lightweight adv type, likely an NC750X-DCT for the type of riding you enjoyed on this ride. The Hayabusa is awesome and I use it for riding from Warwickshire to Dorset frequently when the weather gods are smiling, and occasionally I'll use the big old Voyager (it's like a Gold-Wing)...but I want a machine I can ride to the Scottish Highlands on that is suitable for the twisty roads such as Applecross pass. Previously owned an NC and it was the most versatile machine I have ever owned, regularly returning 100 pg, never less than 70mpg and still fast enough to show a clean pair of heels to the vast majority of cars. Incidentally I went to Completely Motorbikes in Hinckley yesterday and they have more used GS's than you can shake a stick at. All with extremely low mileage. No doubt a good number of them replaced by the new 1300GS so that too can spend the next 3 years going no further than the local Tesco. If you're ever down Dorset way, the 'bike night' on Poole Quay on summer Tuesdays is generally well attended (1000+ if it's nice)...

Nice one TBW, another great video, Theakstons old peculiar provided many a hangover for me as a young man, loved the stuff. You could only find it in those real ale establishments on this side of the Pennines back in the day. Another nice meander, Dave! Thinking back, my first house (outskirts of Birmingham) cost me 3,550 pounds back in 1969. Re some bikes being better able to cope with road detritus than others, the best one in that regards that I've owned was the Jawa 250 that I bought new in 1963. It had very effective mudguards and a fully-enclosed and self-lubricating chain. Over the intervening years motorcycle manufacturers have progressively (?) regarded such things as superflous, leading to road bikes looking as if they've just completed a scrambles weekend. 😕
