I use those pod filters and can vouch for them flowing plenty of air; they're only restrictive if over-oiled or packed with soot in off-road situations. You can fit a "40mm" onto a 42mm intake, they do stretch and the band has an easier job of keeping them attached; I have had some "oversized" ones fall off. Not being critical but I've been using these for 40 years. The best source for this type of filter is Dime City Cycles in Florida the last few years; that has been my experience. Again, your project looks great and please keep us updated.

That is good info. Thanks! I measured the inside diameter of both sets of pod filters. They were both smaller than the stated values by a decent amount. I think it was 1.5 mm.

Thanks! All the plugs, tubes, and pieces can be a little overwhelming. As I do these projects, I find the more I know what to expect, and what I am unplugging, the less intimidating the process becomes. It gets easier the more stuff you do. I worked up to it and got as much info as I could before I started.

Glad to see another video with more insight on your project. Since I have two Triumphs that are 865cc and almost 70 horsepower I went with the smaller Weisco 83.5mm pistons on my INT650 rather than the 90mm pistons which are common to the Triumphs; my displacement is 743cc so I won't be changing any of the induction side components, already running a full stainless-steel exhaust system from the 648cc stock days. I may defeat the air injection as you did. My goal was to have 55-58 horsepower by carefully adjusting deck-height/compression with the cylinder base gasket. Again, thanks for the continued info on your progress. My INT650/750 has almost 30,000 miles, 90 percent as a 648cc (Virginia, USA).

@oakinch thank you for all your documentation and vids in the work you've done. it's a massive help. quick question - based on your experience so far, what would be your recommendation for tuning? Powerfronics or Powercommander? I have a 2023 GT650 with free flow headers from Hitchcocks, Fuel Booster, and DNA stage 2. Im having some bogging down issues and i suspect its due to my fuel mapping. i know so say a fuel booster is enough and others say they needed to remap. ive removed the Evap system, checked plugs, upgraded relays and still having some bogging down on acceleration issues from 1-3 to 4 gears. at this time, it may just be the ECU is not playing nice with my upgrades. No error warning lights thrown either.

I have only used power commander 5 and 6. Whichever product you choose, it is going to be the map that matters. I would go to Revelry racing's store site and look at the maps they will sell with their products. See what matches. I had a PC6 with a map from Hitchcock's, and it wasn't a super great map. I would not really go for a Hitchcocks map unless I had to. PC6 is also kind of limited and needs a pro license to really tune. Also, on the Power Commander website, they have maps you can download for exhausts if you buy from them. I was using a PC5 with a map that I bought from revelry for a while. It was pretty good until I deleted my airbox. Then I had to get a tune on a dyno. Not really sure PC5 supports the latest bikes either. So basically, I would say, just try to find maps that match your mods, and then make a decision.

@@thesundayrides Yes. It is the air sensor. I didn't notice a whole lot at the lower end. But it was obvious that the high end had more pull and was not struggling. The airbox is definitely a bottleneck at high RPM. It is not going to become a sport bike, but I could tell the difference. It was good. I did get a new Power Commander tune a little while after I did the delete. IDK if that is needed or what other mods you have. I think the airbox delete, a full exhaust, and a Power Commander tune is probably the best bang for the buck.

I have a lithium battery that is smaller. It came with plastic spacers, which I used to make it full size for this project. It was the same dimensions as regular battery when installed. It is laying on its' side, in the kit provided battery box, with the terminals pointing to the rear of the bike. The relays are down under the panel at the bottom of the bike. I did go back later and use some plastic bags to waterproof a lot of the the electric items that are under the lower panel.

Always frustrating when weird things happen. It is probably something simple though of it was just the air box. Can you hear the fuel priming when you turn the key to on and the cut off switch to on, before you hit the ignition? I'm not sure how much you took the bike apart, but make sure all the connectors are seated under the tank that lead to it. Also, go push on your spark plug cables and verify they didn't get unseated. Check your fuses. Make sure your relays are are inserted. See if you can find out of if is fuel or spark that is missing.

It seemed like an unnecessary extra step if I could just pull everything out the side. The only thing it would have saved is the airbox. They were not expensive on Ebay. I didn't think I was ever putting it back in. So I chose a less effort option. If you ever plan on getting a tune, I would recommend moving to pod filters first. It made a big difference at higher RPMs where the engine was starved of air. It is a pretty cheap change, especially if you use your stock side panels and battery holder. You really don't need a kit. You just need that airbox out.
