Royal Enfield Classic 500 First Ride Review through Brisbane City!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Join me for a trip through Brisbane City on an Iconic Motorcycle from Royal Enfield.
G'day! I'm Kwackajack and today's video is a first ride review of a 2017 Royal Enfield Classic 500, a legendary motorcycle that has been around for a long time. It's a learner approved, 500CC single cylinder bike and today we are taking it to go get lost around the busy streets of Brisbane, Australia.
This should be the natural habitat of the bike!

Every time I see and hear a classic 500 on the streets here in Perth I get a little closer to wanting to own one myself. Absolutely gorgeous bike; sounds great too.

I own one, it’s the best decision I’ve made. But if you’re going to buy one make sure you buy it brand new. The running in period for these bikes are very important and it must be run in correctly and by the book or you’ll get vibrations like in this video. Mine was run in as per the book and I have never had vibrations

Great review! 😄 I agree with 90% of what you said, except, at least here in Ireland, taking the Bullet/Classic 500 up into and around the mountains is half the fun! They were the main motorcycle for the Indian army, sure! Looking forward to more bike reviews and other videos 😁

The bike is quite torquey so I am not surprised it does well in the mountains.

Probably the best bike I’ve owned, they love A&B roads, 50-60mph is their happy place ! People on the street love ‘em & so do mountains 😅👍

I ride my Classic 500 in north Portugal and Spain mostly in mountainous roads. It's so funny. And it is a good off road machine ( great steep climbs and relaxing descents) with the precious help of engine braking. Reaching lonely places is a must. I have no problems with exhaust heat. I keep the stock one.

That Brisbane city back there looks exotic. Oh yeah, the bike is phenomenal.

I agree with 90% of what you’re saying, But mate, one thing these classics do well is mountains and cruising. These can sit easily at 110 any day and have a top speed of 130. Take it to high speeds and it’s a different bike. Don’t keep it in the city. It’s for cruising. If it’s vibrating too much you’re in the wrong gear. You should get a subtle humm but not noticeable vibrating unless it hasn’t been run in correctly. That’s definitely not a standard exhaust, because it’s an air cooled engine it does run hotter but that exhaust on it would be making the problem much worse. This bike has had roughly the same design since the 1930s. Although the Classic as it’s own was officially released in 2010 as apart of emissions regulations and safety updates. Prior to 2010 it was a standard Bullet. The lack of technology is the appeal of the bike for myself. Riding a Royal Enfield is about the ride itself. You need to take your turns faster, If you’re ever out and about on a Royal Enfield let jump onto the Royal Enfield riders of brisbane Facebook page and we will all meet up one day. A good bike is one that does what it is designed to do well. I can admire everything from a Yamaha AG200 to an Indian Challenger. I probably would not credit the RE Classic here in Australia much but if I were living in India it would be my first choice (50 years worth of interchangeable parts). Glad you had fun though. That is what riding is all about at the end of the day. Nothing is worse than having a bike that you look at and think "Too much effort" and grab your car keys.

Good review except for the bike just being suitable for the urban environment. Mines has been up into the Scottish highlands numerous times and soaks up 300 mile days with ease. Amazing bike with loads of character.

Mate I'm one of your subscribers living in Gold Coast and I love your work. Talking about the Royal Enfields they are actually called 'Made like a gun. Goes like a Bullet'. They are good bikes especially the Royal Enfield Classic 500 but has got so much vibrations in the higher RPM that you won't feel like taking it above 80kmph. But I guess you should try out the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 also and I'm sure you will like it. It is fun to ride and has got almost 0 vibrations.

A very fair review. I have one (but with the pillion seat removed to keep the lines of it) but, some of the shortcomings can be attributed to the fact that that it is apparently the longest continuously made model (including the original 350 as the 500 has, or is to be, discontinued) of motorcycle in the world; since 1931. Mine is a 2015. I agree with the skinny tires. It doesn’t like the freeway, slightly greasy roads, or cross winds. It happy place is 80km per hour. However it was never designed as a city bike. It was designed for despatch riders of the pre Second World War British army. I love mine. Whenever I stop I get people (including Harley riders and wannabe Valentino Rossi’s) come up to me. Most of the older ones say Steve McQueen from The Great Escape.

Guess you know that RE discontinued 500 series.. Classics (mostly 350s) are seen everywhere here in India, so they don’t quite standout here !

I have one, the Crome model. The women won’t leave me alone... Nah, just kidding. Get a lot of comments and interest, but mostly from elderly gentlemen like myself. It is a lovely city commuter bike and you can actually take it for a nice ride to the country side without problems. On the highway? Hmm...can be done too, but it’s clearly not what this bike is made for. I prefer to drive behind a truck or something similar, cruising at about 80-90km/h in that situation. Seems to be the most natural speed for the motor for longer runs. Mine is a 2014 model, still with fuel injection but a drum brake at the back wheel. Anyway, does it really make any significant difference? This is an old school bike anyway, and you’ll have to drive it carefully😊

I owned a Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350 for 4 years. Royal Enfield build quality is poor. Brakes are also poor.
