The problem with asking for the early seating on both RCL and Celebrity is that it seems that the overwhelming majority of people ask for it. For us budget cruisers who are always looking at the "last minute cruise deals", we almost have to accept "Anytime Dining" and hope for the best. The good part about the last cruise on Celebrity is that we met three couples on the first night who had early dining and we all decided to sit together the rest of the cruise. The staff made it happen and we were eating the early meal without waiting in line. Another great video. Honestly, I thought the food looked good although there is less selection. I do NOT like it when they label fish as "white fish" which means it is going to be tilapia or swai which are pretty mediocre.

Yes you're absolutely right. We're more of the last-minute types as well but this was the first time on a Royal cruise where we couldn't change from Anytime to the Early Seating on the first night. Appreciate you sharing your insight & experience! 🙂

We cruise the Allure this past March for our 53rd anniversary. On the first night, we ordered the slow roasted prime rib, medium rare. It was perfection! Much better than the NY steak. We also had a tour of their main kitchen. It's unbelievable how high tech the kitchen was. For instance, the prime rib was computer timed. There's no guess work. Perfect every time.

Congratulations on your anniversary- 53 is amazing! Yeah we thought their prime rib was excellent as well 😋 The kitchen sounds really advanced- pretty amazing how they can make all that food for so many people with a consistent flavor.

I literally just left a RC ship with this menu. The food, in general, was not very good. The beef during MDR evening service was probably the better dishes, and at least on the ship I was on were the best choice, imo. I was pretty disappointed with Royal's food.

Cruised on Allure in January, first time to try RCCL. We really liked the main dining room food. A member of our group had just been diagnosed with Celiac disease after nearly a week in the hospital and none of us had any experience with a gluten-free diet. Everyone in any of the food venues was extremely helpful and provided great options.

Your wife is so polite. You can tell when she doesn’t like something because she’ll say, It’s ok. That’s what my husband says when he really doesn’t like something. I could tell that she loved the Prime Rib because she did a happy dance. It just didn’t seem that great though. Most of the food seemed like a TGI Fridays or Applebees. I’d want something a little more special . But I guess as long as you’re with the ones you love , it’ll still be a happy time together . Oh, I can’t stand Key Lime Pie but my husband loves it. I’m really enjoying your videos! 😁

Thank you guys for another great video. Was on Radiance in Dec and had the old menu with the classics. The fried chicken was ok, the steak and the Spaghetti Bolognese were better. I watched your Galveston cruise terminal and parking video last night. First time I had seen any of your videos. This one about Royal Caribbean food sparked my interest as well because we are taking a RC cruise to Alaska next Spring and the food has changed since we last sailed on that cruise line. I’ve noticed on other cruise lines this year that the New York strip steak was definitely not tender, which I think is odd since it’s a better (not the best, but definitely better) cut of meat. I’m booked on a sailing in April on the Harmony, and am very curious to experience the new menu. I’m definitely forlorn about lobster night being limited to just one tail per guest at no extra charge. I remember the days when lobster was unlimited. I remember it seemed like such a festive and happy time for guests, but I understand the reason behind the change. Royal’s Oasis of the Seas was my very first cruising adventure, and I remember the food scene being utterly phenomenal. Since that time, I’ve sailed with Norwegian and Princess. I have to say, Princess did a pretty fantastic job on the food in every way this last November, but then 2022 was the Discovery Princess’s inaugural year, so the cruise line was trying their best to be perfect in every way. I feel like Royal puts a little more PIZAZZ in their food than the other two lines I’ve sailed with, so I have to say my heart is with Royal. I’m really surprised to hear they no longer offer crème brûlée!! That’s such a standard dessert! I’m betting it has to do with cutting down on prep time more than anything. Still, I think that is one thing that should have stayed. Thanks again for yet another lovely video. Your son is turning into quite the young man! Happy cruising!

Yes you're right about the lobster tails- now it's $17 for each extra one during lobster night, and creme brulee was available only one dinner which was very surprising. We also think Royal's Oasis-class ships are amazing. This was our second time on the Allure, and it's 7 years or so, and despite some noticeable cutbacks, still hard to beat the overall experience. Have a wonderful cruise on the Harmony! 🙂

I am going in June and can’t wait to eat that prime rib!🤤

Intrigued by the prime rib. A recent cruise on HAL Rotterdam served the best prime rib I’ve EVER (I’m old!) had. By contrast a more recent trip on Carnival Glory was horrific. Thinnest ever. Very fatty. Center good. Edges very overcooked (dark, chewy and rough). Sauce was an over-salted plop of sludge. Haven’t been on RC yet, but someday. Excellent video as always.

That's a good tip! We were hoping to just have the same table, which we were able to in the past despite having My Time Dining, so this was the first time we couldn't get it.

Just off RC 4-day Nassau cruise today. Menu information is accurate. I live streak. I was looking forward to a NY strip as shown in this video. 0 for 3 in my case. None were thicker than 1/2 inch and your request for doneness was only suggestive. They brought out what they had ready. On a scale of 1-10, the steaks were 3.5 at best.

That looks a bit better than Mardi Gras. MG only has that one 'Indian vegetarian' meal available, but it looks like RC has an Indian meat dish on the menu every night. That alone gives it a bit more variety. I don't recall any creme brulee (same for Rotterdam). Maybe high egg cost means less creme brulee.

Thanks for posting. The new 2023 RC MD food does not seem to be as good as the past. Gone are the duck, seafood platters, rack of lamb and other more expensive items. They maybe trying to recoup lost Covid-19 revenue.

Just finished 7 days on Voyager. It was the first week with the new MDL menu. It was absolutely the worst menu selection I have seen on any cruise out of the dozen or so that I have taken.

You mentioned the taste of the prime rib. Being a seasoned Royal Caribbean cruiser did you notice that it looks more like a slice or roast beef now instead of a prime rib?

Yes doesn't hurt to ask your travel agent to see if they can change it. If not, show up early on the first night and speak to one of the hosts and they might be able to get you a permanent table.

Did you like the new dining menu? Looks like it is here to stay on all Royal ships so we have no choice. Do they still have lobster night and can you order more than one still?

Yup there is MDR breakfast- you can also get eat complimentary breakfast at Johnny Rockets, Park Cafe, Solarium Bistro & Cafe Promenade. We'll put out a video on those in the next few weeks.

I just got off Adventure of the Seas. Overall the food was sub par, and the buffet would lose to our local buffets. MDR dinner was better than MDR breakfast or lunch, which were pretty bad. Most of the desserts were bad, the cakes DRY. The key lime pie was one of the better desserts they had. The fudge brownie was good but they put a burned tasting piece of popcorn on top. We were on the NCL Epic in December and while I didn't like the ship and was bored most of the time, whoever ran the Epic buffet did an amazing job. NCL won on the food. RC made a mistake cutting costs on the food, imo. Our servers for the RC MDR were fantastic. No complaints with the service. I think RC crew overall, were wonderful.

Thanks for sharing your experience from the Adventure OTS! We were actually considering that one but opted for the Allure- glad we did! We were on the Epic many years ago and really enjoyed the food as well.

How were able to order all those entree’s in one sitting? Just returned from cruise on Radiance and we can order as much as we wanted, but only after eating the entire first entree. My friend and I usually order our own different entree and would order a “shared” dish and we were told we would get it, only after we ate the first one, which defeats the purpose of having a shared entree.

Those were for the 3 of us which we shared. But yes their new policy is only one dish served per person at once. If you didn't like the dish let them know- you don't have to finish.

Watching this series to see the ‘new’ menus…which are just stripped versions if what they already had. I 💜 the smaller portions & that they gouge you for $16.99 for another lobster tail. People have been abusing that for years. I’m so curious to know…and this is a question NO judgement, do you guys sit there and order one of everything in one seating? Idk why, but that amuses me😂😂😂 You do have a beautiful family. I’m holding on until Sept 15.

The kitchen usually churns out dishes to make them all look and taste the same, so maybe not, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Just off of Allure of Seas today (feb 5). MDR Food is mostly good but we missed the classics, not only that but they have changed some of the recipes, for example the escargot had a different topping and was not very garlicky or as good as it was before the change. The delicious Apple tart I've been replaced with a much smaller and not as good apple cobbler, cheaper to make and not as good. But the Windjammer food was really poor. On port days it was the only place to eat lunch and had no carved meats, the Asian section was paltry (mostly Indian, but passengers of Asian background were not from India! Where was the Chinese and Japanese?). Worst of all was the dessert section which did not have cakes and pies but instead parfait type deserts made with fake whip cream. Cookies were good, but where are the cakes and pies. Breakfast buffet pastry selection very small...no chocolate croissants that we saw either. Overall there was a lack of variety. FOr breakfast there was no omelette station In the main buffet, but you could get one in Johnny Rockets or main dining room if open. To me it was a major downgrade in variety from previous cruises. Also no ice cream in the buffet .except for the last day. I guess everyone was supposed to go to the pay for it scoops shop unless you wanted vanilla chocolate or strawberry in the MDR or soft serve. Service was still very good in the MDR, although they seemed a little short handed. Service in the buffet was excellent. Bring back my ice cream though! Also there were no nuts on anything - - I guess fear of nut allergies and increased prices Got rid of that. MDR breakfast did not have grapefruit or stewed prunes. Portions were smaller for many things in the MDR as well. The lobster served on lobster night was a good size and a good item, but the so-called drawn butter was not real butter so that was not very good. The decrease in quality of food and also variety was very noticeable. We also had a bad meal in the specialty restaurant chops with over cooked and tasteless fish and fillet mignon, and tough lamb. Four people had four bad entrées. Food and the Italian restaurant was the best, and we also liked the dinner in 150. Strangely there seemed to be a lack Of iced tea in some areas, and Texans like ice tea. The prime rib in the MDR on the first night was excellent by the way.

You sure can! Though on lobster night they will charge extra if you order more than one lobster.

Did you receive any pushback if you ordered multiple appetizers, entrees or desserts? (not including Lobster)

Nope not at all!

Went on Oasis in mid August. Every steak I had was overcooked when I asked for rare. Kids asked for medium and sometimes medium came out more pink than my rare. Or the server just randomly mixed up the plates multiple times. A bit disappointed if they don't cook it the way the guest asks for, why bother asking.

Sorry to hear that! You can always let them know and usually they're really good about bringing one out cooked to your liking better. But they should get it right the first time more often.

Caesar salad is my favorite. I have yet to try it with anchovies in the dressing. I want to though.

So on NCL you can't eat dinner whenever you wish? And you have an assigned table each time? Do you have to share a table with other cruisers?

This is actually Royal Caribbean, where yes you can also eat whenever during the dinner hours, it's just that we don't recommend it because then you'd have to wait for a table to become available. That can take 10-30 minutes. With assigned tables on Royal Caribbean you certainly can have your own table and not share, plus you would just go to your assigned table with no waiting. With NCL you can just show up early and be taken to any table that's open.

Yes we had some Royal Caribbean FCC (future cruise credits) that were expiring at the end of the month, so were hoping to get a good cabin on the Allure and one happened to become available 🙂

Yeah unfortunately not in this new updated menu- they used to have it available every night.

How dare they call it a marksmanship crab cake and not use crab meat. That's crazy

Love the Oasis. Best food we ever had but when you exit the dining room on Deck 4 you are immediately smashed in the face with the disgusting smell of smoke from the casino which is less than 50' away. Unbelievable that given the amazing design of this ship they don't simply put glass entry doors on the casino. They have doors on the arcade, but not the casino. So stupid.

Just finished B/B on Harmony. New menu sucks. Theme night every day. English, Mexican, Caribbean etc. even the lobster was not worth it. 5 small bites. Food in general was not good at all. I sent several meals back because they were cold. Service was great food was poor at best.

I ordered the French Onion Soup on Odyssey of the Seas in December. It was SO GOOD. I think it had 1/2 pound of cheese on it. I finished the entire bowl 🐷 then could not even take a bite of my Spaghetti Bolognese because I was so full. DH ended up eating it. Everything you showed looked pretty good. Im looking forward to Part 2!

Good review. But nothing in the main dining room is good in royal Caribbean. Absolutely nothing. I’ve done 15 cruises this year and refuse to go into the main dining. It’s like the worst Boy Scout camp.

Food was bang average I am afraid,if I was dining at a local pub or restaurant I would send most of the food back.

I WOULD STILL PREFER THE MARKET PLACE FOR MEALS
